Annoys the hell out of me when I hear someone say 'today's standards are higher'. Have you compared today's board and darts with the 80s? You could barely get three darts in the treble 20 on these boards!
Two things about this match stuck out for me: 1. Sid giving away the Locke-O'Dea result at the 11:52 mark before the highlights of that game was shown (not his fault) 2. Lowe switching to the 19s more than any game I've seen with him playing A great performance from Lowe.
John Lowe Alan Evans, both great players ,as time went on John Lowe hit more 180's from the 1990's to 2000's onwards with matches against Phil Taylor etc. He changed the flights and stems on his darts made that improvement which probably he should of done earlier in his career.
...and for nostalgic purposes, making the over 50's very happy. Thanks brother.
Remarkable how quiet the audience is during play. How things change!
I’ve always loved this piece of music
It's called 'Cranes' by The Doug Wood Group who also did the classic guitar snooker theme.
Match averages: Lowe: 97.20; Evans: 86.40 (on today's boards, that's probably 107 - 96).
a fair assessment as taylors avg did go up by exactly 10 points when the blades came in.
@@ciaranperry4677 But did everyone else's average also went up by roughly 10% ?
@@merlininthevoid2889 yes.
@@ciaranperry4677that's assuming the higher average is down to the dartboard, the higher average is simply down to Taylor getting better
@@elliottjones1991and he got that much better at exactly the same time as when the boards changed?
Such a treat watching Lowe to throw. Smooth as it gets
Nobody smoother.
The Douglas Wood Group with the opening theme..
Memories of childhood watching the darts on TV..
Absolutely brilliant. Ok the standard today maybe higher but give me this any day. Thanks for posting
The double and treble was smaller. And bigger darts
@@johnmccarthy168 Staples too and more bounce outs due to wired darts.

@@johnmccarthy168 I think the wires were different as well.
HOW IS THE STANDARD HIGHER IN ANY WAY ... ???
The Rhondda Legend, two great players.
6:23
Class darts from Evans. Superb 121 out.
Intro music one of the best sporting ones ever.
I got educated pretty nicely by this :P
Superb footage!!
Als 121 finish was brilliant
wow ! what a decent crowd.
John Lowe never blinked!!

Two tough player's
Love that sweater .....
Do you happen to have any other Alan Evan’s matches such as from the indoor league ?
4:57 Evan's yet to take a leg.... after 1 leg being played. Quality commentating back in the days
Peter Purves tells us that Lowe won the first set 3-0 so 4 legs had been played at that point.

In Loving Memory of Alan Evans (14 June 1949 - 12 April 1999)
I'm not quite sure - is that a young Bruce Spendley I can hear? I think it might be.
It is.
I miss that OG intro
10:49, a partridge-ism if I've ever heard one
If only everyone took as much notice of the United Nations as the Russians do.
5/2/2023❤
Didn't they use this intro music for snooker as well
No
cheers for all these uploads mate. I was just wondering if the darts was in the same room as the club kinetic main room? Loved that place☺☺
Classic
If you opened up John Lowe all you'd see inside would be wires
