Would you guys like that players are able to Challenge umpire calls?? Or would it just delay the game too much?? Let us know your opinion in the comments 👀!.. Please hit the like and subscribe buttons if you enjoyed this episode - We appreciate it a lot 🤩🙌🏻🔥

Badminton need VAR. From that the player can challenge : service fault. service receiver movement. Shuttle fault. Racket fault. Body fault. In/out. Over the net. etc

absolutely yes, what happened to CTC is just too heartbreaking and annoying :( and Ginting also can't enjoy his win to the fullest because he try to be empathetic towards CTC, and the fans also has mixed feeling about that win because of that fault call, btw Anders looks good in his new haircut, hopefully he can get better luck in result with the new hair in the new year 😆😆, in chinese traditions, when you cut your hair prior to new year's eve, it means that you get rid of the bad luck and open your chance to the better luck for the new year 😉... Let's get HK to have a haircut too so he can get better luck for his last season next year 😛🤜🤛 Great episode as always 👏👏

It's certainly something that needs to be discussed but part of that discussion is to answer this question - could a player challenge a no fault call? E.g If you feel a player has touched the net on a kill but it isn't called, could you challenge? Seems like you should be able to.
If no calls could be challenged then my worry with all these challenges wouldn't actually be the time wasting aspect, although that is a big factor to be considered, but the fact it could lead to a reduction in any calls by umpires. We have already seen a much lower number of over rules in line calls, even if it's obvious, since the challenge system has been in place.
Like I said, this is a big discussion and needs to be had 👍🏻🙌🏻
Great episode as always guys, loved it

I think it's fine, you have your two challenges, and if the umpires are wrong then you should be able to keep challanging. The problem seem to be that we still dont know if the serve was too high or if the umpire was right?
I find the discussion you guys had to be a bit strange, if players are always serving too high, simply because umpires are afraid to call it, then that is the problem, not the few cases where the umpire is in fact enforcing the rules correctly.
If they are serving too high, and always serving too high, then they are basically cheating, so good on umpire to call it out.
But if the umpire is wrong then he / she is basically destroying the game.
Follow the rules, enforce the rules. And verify, that is the most fair way.

Just see the final between Chou and Ginting in Hylo Open. Wtf was that. Umpires are human they can make mistake. Players should get 1-2 chance to call. And if they get it wrong they lose the review. Same with line judges.

Indonesian netizen can be childish and insufferable but everyone knows that nationality matters in Asia. God forbid if hypothetically an official would call Tai Tzu Ying from China, it might as well trigger World War III.

If one of us dreamers got to that level and that happened to us we would be furious. Major respect to CTC, hopefully world class badminton can become more fair for what the players want.

    1. Waiting for a poll on Anders hair cut 😁.
    2. Indian's also will get pissed if country is wrongly mentioned during prize ceremony. See, its the time when people who don't know or getting to know the game actually give attention to their names and details. So its a very bad time to wrongly mention that. It shouldn't happen to any player at any point.
    3. Waiting for world tour finals discussion!

You guys explained well about the announcer's mistake. It is about culture - for some theycan just laugh it off, the pride/nationalism for the citizen - even how sporting event like badminton can be the thing that unites the country/make them proud, the rivalry between the two countries, as well as the level of education for the general public. I mean you guys could see the expression of the players as well when they heard the wrong announcement - but yeah it is not that it erased the happiness of the victory eventually.
Having heard how it went/it affect even guys like Anders, it should not have been like that (in terms of the public reaction to further perpetuate it) - just have the dialog between the relevant parties, clear the air, and move on.

on the 'malaysia' misnaming issue: its not just a competition between msia/indonesia issue. its also a respect issue. i think the respect issue goes very deep. eg richer countries and cultures have more 'self-esteem' than poorer countries. so theres more width for you for example to say 'its not a big deal'. for indonesian fans often badminton is the major international point of pride they have. so its a much bigger deal. denmark for eg you could argue has more things going for it (eg better living standards, etc). there may also be the whole 'europeans are colonisers' stereotype possibly in asia (even though denmark in recent history was not a major perpetrator). so many underlying issues that could cause indonesian fans to be more 'sensitive' about these 'minor issues' which could signal disrespect.
but i also agree it might be slightly cultural, in the sense of how u deal with these issues. ie with backlash vs with humour. maybe also signals a lack of maturity by the fans commenting about these things. maybe therere more younger fans and most of the fans in europe are older? (i noticed in stadiums you can see the demographic of audience in stadiums in europe is generally older). whereas in asia the age range is bigger. so of course you get some kids who are more sensitive and immature about these things.

I like how Hans-Kristian mentioned Ginting lost Hong Kong open 2019 to Lee Cheuk Yiu due to a controversial call in comparison to CTC's misfortune in the Hylo open. What about the point you obtained agaist Lee in Thailand open 2021 at 19-19 when you literally slammed your racket into the net but the umpire gave you the point. You celebrated the point emphatically, a result that essentially cost Lee his Olympics qualification with the unjust loss. Difference is you would have known that you hit the net but Lee wouldn't know if Ginting's racket was over the net or not. Kudos to Ginting for not celebrating extensively over the controversial result at Hylo open in contrast to how you hit Lee with the "Hong Kong open final" after the game.

Thank you for addressing and commenting on all of the topics! Agree with you two, there has to be standards on umpiring too. Like, sometimes you'll get an extremely strict umpire sometimes you don't.
Also to add about the misannouncement, for me personally it's not because the announcer mistook it for Malaysia, it's just... It was Fajar/Rian's first title in Super 500 and above, also it's been quiet some time to see the minions back on the podium again, and seeing their confused face during the announcement was so disappointing to see :( They were so excited but too. A pretty monumental moment tbh, so yeah... Not trying to justify some of the extreme negative comment tho, but yeah. Pretty disappointing experience :' will never wish it to happen to any players.

On the service fault issue - Huang ya Xiong was even called as well! which given her height being 5' 5" seemed particularly weird. The commentator even noted she would practically have needed to serve at her chest height and was confounded at the call herself. And yeah it just seemed strange that it was strictly the chinese pair and not the danish pair at all. I can respect where you guys are coming from though that it is all too easy to call it a bias when that isn't necessarily what's happening, and that there's generally a consistency issue as well. But that said, it did seem truly strange even accounting for these factors, and I don't think we can say with certainty that the service judge was adjudicating the two pairs on that court evenly. These judges are human after all, and that comes with a lot of pliability around the issue of fairness.

That just shows how willfully Americanized many minds are, because in the context of an American who thinks everyone who speak Spanish are Mexican and every east Asian are Chinese, that could be argued being racists. But that's not even the case here. It had nothing to do with a racist stereotype. It was an embarrassing mistake which shouldn't have happened, but that's only what it was, a mistake, not some warped Americanized conspiracy notion of racism. Mistaken nationalities happen all the time outside the realm of America.. I can't even count how many times Danes have been mistaken for Swedes... or people who thinks that Europeans are all the exact same

A couple of questions, mostly for Anders. Sucks with the injuries. Regarding rankings, doesn't it give ranking points (and perhaps a little prize money) just to start in these tournaments and lose in the first round? I know it would be a sucky thing to do, but the last 3 tournaments, in europe you would basically be able to go there play 1 point and go back home the same day, so it wouldnt' be a great time or expense sink.

To lose in the first round would not cover 10% of his expenses, winning the tournament hardly covers the expenses nevermind losing in the early rounds

@@patrickjones1143 I dont think thats true at all. If it was, noone would participate. Fresh Open is a super 750 and it isn't that far from Denmark to France and Germany. And Denmark is also pretty close to Denmark.

Not sure why that is the case. We haven't changed any setting, so it should just be like any other video we have uploaded in the past.

30:33 She insulted an entire nation then tells them to just "move on" like it's no big deal. I'm not even from Indonesia and I'm pissed, fire her or fine or suspend without pay, honestly I've never ever seen this from any competition in any sport ever. Just shows how careless and racist some people can be, Malaysia Indonesia, Chinese, Japanese, Korean same shit. smh

She did not insult anyone. Merely made a mistake. No big deal from a non-Asian perspective avec Antonsen and Vittingus said.
