Great way to really show what it’s like as a data analyst in healthcare - most videos don’t really capture that. Great video!

Another inspiring video. You almost scared me away from healthcare @8:10 with the methodology but then you explained it in the next sentence. I’m sure it’s a tad nerve racking for everyone. I can see how doctors could be defensive in that scenario.
The Office Space boss impression was pretty spot on.

When putting together a report from a methodology, usually, you will have some operational definitions already given to you by someone. In my experience, that is usually a more executive doctor that is involved in Quality Improvement / Physician leadership roles. So that part isn't too bad. The tricky part, can be knowing where to look for the data when you're first starting in healthcare. Then, after a few projects like that, it gets easier. The example of the one doctor being in the room, seeing their data compared to their peers doesn't happen often, and usually they're pretty graceful about it when they see they have room for improvement.
Sometimes, though, you'll get someone that is a little defensive, so I'll always do two things:
1.) Remind myself that the frustration is not aimed at me
2.) Have the data validated by a subject matter expert to ensure there are no errors in its preperation

Ok this video is so good, absolutely loved the skits, they were so funny. Your presentation is so informative and clear in all your videos. I’ve never come across a channel that helps you really get an idea what a career or job will actually be like. I wish this was the norm! Thanks so much

I'm a nurse considering a career in analytics, and I've never thought of what goes behind the scenes. I actually worked in surgical enviornments haha. Thanks for what you do!

This has been my experience working in the quality department at my hospital. I work with the kidney and liver transplant teams and had the surgeons call me out because they didn't like their readmission rates. My direct boss is super chill though.

You kind of forgot at the start about how there's 13 FTEs budgeted and hiring for the team, but there's only 4 people currently on the team. Probably less after the pandemic.
Blunt and vocal clinicians might be the most intimidating, but they are by far my favorite partners because they don't let problems fester or dick around. They know what they want, they know how to focus their attention at problems till it's done to their liking, and are willing to be champions for what they want.

Here's a good project that you could use for practice: ua-cam.com/video/3TuayvU1kwU/v-deo.html
      And another one: ua-cam.com/video/RKRHozoSlVk/v-deo.html
Other than that, you could volunteer your analytical services to non-profit healthcare organizations and see if they would take you on as a volunteer.

Hello Josh, is it possible to group BMI in tableau? There are tons of numeric ranges in medical field, like normal blood cell count and BMI. So if I have to analyze BMI and insurance charge, how to group BMI? Thanks

I have ADHD, how can i be a good analyst?

    • @DataWizardry
      @DataWizardry  Рік тому +2

I would say ADHD needn't be mutually exclusive with Data Analytics. Tons of data analysts have ADHD. www.reddit.com/r/dataanalysis/comments/zm24pz/any_adhd_data_analysts_out_here/
My advice would be to just learn as much as you can, always strive to improve your skills, and keep an open mind when people give you feedback on your work.

There's always that one doctor that is a "know-it-all". The shit I got to put up with these inflated egos is insane. I need to get paid a Doctor's salary if I ever become a senior DA

Neither; I earned a Masters in Health Administration, and started as a quality consultant (though knew some Excel and Tableau).
Then the data analyst in my department retired, and I took her place and learned SQL
