@@electricalscarecrow You know there are two or three country guys who once have entered your life and now will never go away. Even if you don't listen to them often, they will comfort you for life. Guys like Michael Hurley, Blaze Foley and John Fahey...
@@foolycooly6738 You're right. I love all of those guys. And guys like Roscoe Holcomb, Dock Boggs, Tommy Jarrell, Frank Hutchison. It's like having a conversation with an old friend or finding an old card or letter or something.
@@electricalscarecrow Will check these guys, I haven't heard them yet - thanks for sharing. I am listening to Roscoe Holcomb and he is really great with his banjo! I also love Dick Curless with his truck driver songs
Thank you! Love this channel! Any other stuff that you can point me towards like this, lo-fi, folk, self produced, etc. ? really love the stuff that ties all those features together.
Hmmm... I like a lot of the old 20s blues, country, and folk, and I'd say that that's the closest match to Hurley... but that might not be up your alley or what you're looking for (guys like Dock Boggs, Fiddlin' John Carson, Frank Hutchison, Mississippi John Hurt, Riley Puckett, Roscoe Holcomb, Bascom Lamar Lunsford). As for lo-fi self-produced folk... I think that The Savage Young Taterbug (more of trippy sound collage stuff that occasionally veers into singer songwriter territory), Evan Miller (instrumental Fahey style stuff, when he was in his folk era), I don't know, it's hard to really find others who sound like Hurley. I knew a close family friend growing up who sounded a lot like him, I have tapes by this friend up on the channel (his name was Ray), if you want to check those out.
awesome. thanks for the info, ill dive in to those recommendations. check out “the field” by stripmall ballads - you can download it free on his website - think itd be up your alley. i think he might still have the cassettes for sale as well

Shep and Me too, although some of the Shep and Me stuff is really noisy and doesn't sound like this, some of it does.
