Joey Skladany, a freelance food, travel, and lifestyle writer, found his one-bedroom Brooklyn apartment with a little luck, timing, and resolve. Participating in a housing lottery, the opportunity came about to move into his current building. As Joey tells it, “While touring my current building, I saw a few apartments, but fell in love with the staged model. It was a corner unit with floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out onto Manhattan and Brooklyn. The views were goosebump-inducing and it was absolutely my favorite of the bunch.” Unfortunately, when it came time to select an apartment, the staged model was no longer available. Joey almost walked away from the opportunity, as he “couldn’t justify taking anything else in the building while knowing that someone else was enjoying my favorite apartment for the same price.” Luckily, the exact same staged model he fell in love with became available at the last minute.

I'm totally with you on useful wall-space vs too many mahoosive windows but you've done a really great job with your home; shop sign and all 😊 Tbh, I personally find floor to ceiling windows scary as I feel like I'll inexplicably fling myself out or through them😬
Oh, and I suspect that the annoying column in your bedroom provides some kind of structural stability- so try not to feel too harshly toward it😂😂

IN LOVE with your space ❤ Kitchen counter/workspace suggestion. On opposite wall from galley kitchen, install a fold down table and paint it the same colour as the bottom wall. Pop it up, use it and then fold it down to keep the space open and uncluttered. If done right, you wouldn't even see it and it would blend into the wall. 😊

I have an apartment in Williamsburg on the 21st floor that I bought in the 1990s that has a panoramic view of Manhattan to Long Island City. The empire state building is right in the middle. I have a huge terrace which I prefer to wall-to-ceiling windows that seem to be what all new buildings are going for, even if there is no great view. When I walk my dog at night, if the shades are not down, you have a view of the entire apartment. My apartment has no obstructing buildings and no one can see this far up. Your apartment is styled really nice and uncluttered.
I have storage but it’s for tax returns from the last 10 years 🤣🤣🤣 I love it 🤣 this is a cool place congratulations to him🖤
I like how thoughtful you were about the sun-bleaching. I always love the sunny huge windows but then... it's HOT and destroys things. This space is so gorgeous I would probably put up with that too! 😂
Great personality. Normally i am into more color and maximalism, but i appreciate how he embraced the cool tones and geometry of the apartment and the black and white elements that recall all the black window panes
as a library science student, i cringe whenever i see books sorted by color...lol...

I had my lemon/lime moment in the 70s. EVERYTHING WAS LEMON/LIME. Even the carpet was lime color. Had enough of that. LOL!!!!!!

I love his entire space, and the green pieces are so me! It's my favorite color.
That skyline view omg. In the next iteration I would prefer less matchy, more eclectic, something to break up so many lines (of pillows and chair and wall and legs) and soften the high contrast. The choice of green for pops of color is great but think it would be amazing with a few more - a pink. I’m really only talking about the view of couch, chair, rug and pillows. Looking from the other way - love. Great job!
