    Rokas Pukstas who plays for Hajduk Split is a player to watch out for. No one has ever mentioned him.

      I know he was loaned out to Solin who play in the second division in Croatia, but he is still only 19 and developing. He really needs to be playing regularly for Hajduk and eventually moving to one of the big leagues as the Croat league isn’t the most competitive tbf. He has shown great ambition going there at such a young age.

    Seriously though, thank you and Dustin for sacrificing your weekends to this series. To me its crazy how long soccer seasons are. But I get it, money makes the world go round.
    Out of all our players I would adore seeing Reyna have his breakout season. To me, easily the biggest raw talent we have. I earnestly hope his dad lets him be an adult and gets out of his career, and he gets steady full games. I honestly think he could be world class eventually.

    Honestly I think Balogun will have a better season, this season, he's clearly developing his overall striker play (Monaco wouldn't have let Ben Yedder go if they didn't see something with Balogun) he's just developing vs low blocks, Monaco don't play too many teams who'll give him the space to run in behind, from watching him last year he's clearly slowly developing it, he's still a young guy, give him time

    I like the list. I'd maybe swap Pepi for Weah for a couple reasons:
    1. I think Weah has kind of hit his ceiling at Juventus and don't really see him having a more successful season than during 2023/2024. Which is to say that I think he'll be mediocre, get some starts but mostly be used off the bench, and not be a strong contributor in terms of G/A numbers.
    2. PSV will be well positioned to steamroll most of their league opponents again this year, and I don't see Luuk de Jong having another year of being healthy throughout the long season. I really think the club will either be forced to use Pepi more because of injury to de Jong, or will be wise to do so, so they start to create that bridge to the future. That will mean lots of goal scoring opportunities for a guy we know has done well when given the chance in that league.
    I think my general opinion between Weah/Pepi is that you have one who will see another season just like the last while you have another who is primed for a breakout. The latter has me much more excited and he'd therefore be on my list of "must follow".

    Just because you have some players playing abroad doesn’t mean thats necessarily going to translate to a successful national team. A lot will depend on whether Poch can find a system that gets the best out of what he has to work with. He will need to adapt his style for international tournament football. Playing out from the back is probably not going to happen considering who he has in defence and keeper. I’m guessing he will adopt a more pragmatic style playing counter attacking football.

    Keep in mind to Pulisic and his supposed underperformance VS the top tier teams; Milan has had poor right backs behind Christian who had little ability to go forward and who were also poor on defense. Christian was constantly tracking back on defense. Piolo even admitted to prioritizing the left side of Theo & Rafa giving them the automatic right to attack, while paying less attention on defense. Piolo required Christian to be more defensive oriented as everyone always knew that Rafa would never track back. Also, Christian ALWAYS stepped up against Liverpool, Bayern, Madrid......he is a big game player, when given the right situation.

    We really need 1 of 2 or both things to happen this season. A player no one expects to have a major break through we really haven't had one in several years primarily cause most of the players make their debuts very young. Or more realistically guys who have underperformed or stagnated in development show some production the e.g. the Reynas Baloguns Musahs of the team

      Agrees on the first point but not looking likely. What I wasn't to see is EVERYONE stay healthy enough to play the majority of games... Not sure if it quite fits the mold of what you're describing, but 18 year old Cole Campbell at Dortmund could be someone who emerges this season in a similar way to how Pulisic and Reyna did in their debut seasons with the 1st team. I saw a recent quote from the Dortmund youth coach that he plays for, after he had a goal and assist in their last game. The coach said something like "he's clearly a 1st team player". Seems primed for a potential breakout around mid-season.
      But your examples seem to be more about guys in their early 20s, already on 1st team rosters and good contributors in past seasons, ready to become real focal points at their clubs. I'm equally excited for that type of breakout. I'd maybe add Scally to the list, assuming Gladbach have a more stable year and get back into being securely in the top half of the Bundesliga. If he could start around 85-90% of their games (started 73% last year), contribute 6-7 assists (had 4 last year), and help them finish in the top half (14th of 18 in the league last year), I would call that a big step forward in his career during a season in which he'll turn 22 years old.

  • @mattmexor2882

    Juventus will sign another winger, or at least try. I think Weah will be a bench player. It looks like it isn't that Motta doesn't like McKennie, it's that Juventus made him unavailable to him as Mckennie was not willing to sign an extension that suited them. It seems to me that there is some sort of friction between agents and teams regarding fees. FIFA is trying to put a price cap on agents fees. I am surprised there isn't more reporting on the situation from the press. I wonder if the slow transfer season is partially related to this conflict between the teams and the agents.

      So why did McKennie not see the pitch in Juventas’s last 4 matches last season? He was not injured and showed up for the Copa over weight and not in good form. He did not run the field!

    I predicted Pulisic was going to have 25 g/a last season. I want him to try getting into the 30 g/a range as well. 35 g/a need to be his target, but I will be happy if he get’s close. To the minimum, another 25 g/a season will be great as well. I do agree he needs to do better against Serie A’s best instead of against the weaker teams.

    • @1972dsrai
      @1972dsrai 2 місяці тому

      Its asking a lot considering his highest tally is 15 across all competitions for Milan last season. 15 to 20 is probably more realistic considering he’s not a striker, but will be playing as a #10 this season. The demands on the team will also be greater this season as they’re in the UCL for the first time in seven years so a lot will depend on player rotation and whether they can handle playing two games a week. A lot of teams struggle when they haven’t competed in Europe for a while. Last season was thus, a lot easier with just the league to focus on.

  • @bkbaughn

  • @ccheat7966
    @ccheat7966 2 місяці тому

    Hey Tac. 1. You can carry an audience really well. I don't think you need that background music. 2. The Lebron James of Soccer? If this was the European press, it would be only the best of the best players that would be in on that comparison. But here in America, that is what we hear. A media member(s) says this, and it is accepted as a reasonable comment. Remind me, how many games did Pulisic disappear from games that you and Pete were covering? How many free kicks and corners did he blow where you were puzzled why Gio was not taking them? How many goals did he score against good teams vs. bad teams last season? 3. No more "Excuses" for Reyna! Where is this talking point coming from? Again, busted leg against Canada. Dortmund starts to give him a few minutes after rehab in Oct 23. He is deemed 90-minute match ready in Nov 23. Then the Nottingham move after Claudio and agent meet with Dortmund. It hurt Gio's case that Dortmund moved on without him after his busted leg. Then it came out that coach did not like his defense. The technical director said Gio needs that extra gear. (How much did the broken leg contribute to not meeting that standard?). Now back to the USMNT during Copa. How many minutes did Gio play the 10? Why was Gio subbed out when they needed him on the field? Wait! The 10 does not exist in GGG's and Earnie Stewart's official playbook where it is 4-3-3 and playing out of the back is the mandate. Operating in the attacking 3rd? Nah, don't worry about that. It's against the playbook. It is fine to keep Gio away from the attacking 3rd often. As one prominent analyst said - don't bother starting Gio if it's not right in the middle. He has a huge advantage there and not much of an advantage playing as an outside midfielder. In other words, other players could come in and have a similar impact as Gio playing on the outside. Now, Davies and Meola have laid down the verdict on CBS. Gio better play for club or face removal from the USMNT. (Jesse Marsh, Twellman and the Best Soccer Show pods have said similar things previously). Based on Davies and Meola's view, this will be the requirement of the new coach. It doesn't matter that Gio is trying to break into the starting 11 of one of the top teams in the world and is benefitting from practice 5 days a week against some of the world's best. To Davies and Meola, I assume starting for an MLS side would satisfy this playing for club as a USMNT requirement? But I agree with you Tac. Gio needs to stay away from MLS. So present day. How much is Gio's current situation on him vs. how much is due to circumstances out of his control? Some thoughts. A. Dortmund coach - Sorry Gio, you don't play defense. B. Nottingham coach - Sorry Gio, we are in a relegation fight, and I am going with players with league experience. C. GGG - Sorry Gio, me and Earnie have decided that at 4-3-3 is the best way and we don't play a 10. Forget about your experience playing the 10 under BJ. BTW, I want you coming out of the back. Don't worry about the attacking 3rd too much. D. Um Gio, Weah is out. We need you playing winger. Don't worry that I know you have not played there in a while, and I know you are better central midfielder. It' all good. Trust me E. Um Gio, we are in trouble. I am taking you out at halftime. I want more defenders. I will go with a tactical formation that plays 5 in a line. Don't worry if the Uruguay is then going to take 5 of their players and press them against my 5 and jam us in the lower block where we are going to be under constant pressure in the heat. It's all good. I will leave you with this. Word association - Kate Abdo/CBS and Eric Wynalda. "Kate - Gio Reyna?". "Wynalda - Our best player".

    pls no more antonee robinson on the letft. not very technical, dribbler. more on backpasses than carying it 10 to 15 more yards. passes not vry accurate, more hospital passes. always get dispossesd. need to try other players on the left.

      Caleb Willy es una buena opción
      incluso el lateral izquierdo de Colorado Rapids que estuvo en Bélgica y también es joven
      es cierto, muchos jugadores estadounidenses se están perdiendo como George velo por ejemplo
      pero es que sacan tantos que ya uno se pierde Joshua Wenger también es una buena opción como lateral izquierdo, aunque tendría que ser reconvertido porque él es central
      Y el lateral izquierdo de la selección que participó en el mundial de la Argentina por el lado izquierdo también no es mal jugador
