Karla Caves, also known as Karle Caves, are ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves located near Lonavala in the Indian state of Maharashtra. These caves are part of a complex of cave shrines that were carved out of a rocky hillside. The caves date back to the 2nd century BCE and are associated with the Hinayana Buddhist tradition.
Key features of Karla Caves include:
1. Architecture:The caves showcase early examples of Indian rock-cut architecture. The main cave or chaitya (prayer hall) is the largest and most impressive among the caves. It has a large horseshoe-arched entrance and features intricate carvings and sculptures.
2. Chaitya Hall: The main attraction at Karla Caves is the chaitya hall, which is a Buddhist prayer hall with a stupa at the far end. The hall is adorned with numerous pillars, intricate carvings, and sculptures of elephants, lions, and other mythological figures. The stupa is a significant element of Buddhist worship and symbolizes the Buddha.
3. Stupa: The stupa inside the chaitya hall is an important religious structure for Buddhists. It is a hemispherical structure that typically contains relics of the Buddha or revered monks.
4. Caves: Apart from the main chaitya hall, there are also viharas (monastic cells) at Karla Caves where Buddhist monks would have resided. These cells are arranged around a courtyard.
5. Buddhist Art: The caves are adorned with beautiful sculptures and carvings that depict various scenes from the life of the Buddha, Jataka tales, and other Buddhist motifs. The art reflects the cultural and artistic richness of the period.
Karla Caves are considered significant not only for their architectural and artistic value but also for their historical and religious importance. The Temple at Karla caves is Ikveera Devi . You also visit Bhaje caves and Lohagad Fort which on the opposite side on Karla from old Mumbai Pune Highway.

Great video guys, you can take Palm beach road from Airoli then Airport road to reach Palaspa phata directly to get on old Mumbai Goa Highway. It is a bit long route but you can enjoy good lakeviews, less traffic and skip the jam at Kalamboli to Palaspa road and flamingos on the way

Is there any toll plaza on that highway?
I think there was one... Long back, so did not completely recall that.
I could not understand why you would select bike in maps when you are in a car. Any particular reason?
I wanted to avoid expressway and at the same time navigate through the old Mumbai Puna highway !!
Once we select bike, Google avoids the expressway. Alternatively we tried selecting the no toll road, however the other road which we wanted to take also had tolls, so map was still routing us to the expressway !!
The old highway is scenic and that's why we wanted to explore the old highway this time !!

Lonavala ka patch (part of Mumbai Pune expressway) me heavy traffic rehta hai 24x7 - Google me aapko recent car clutch failures ke news bahut dikhenge.
If you avoid expressway and take old pune highway for Lonavla and khandala patch - Steep zyada hai, and traffic weekends ke side me thoda high milega, else old highway thoda sa less congested rehta hai !!

Hi bro nice video, question arises is lonavala toll is 240rs while if you take old mumbai highway anyways you will pay 90rs on shedung and borle toll and another 45rs i guess ahead roughly saving is only 100_130rs which is not justified considering you can run your car at 100kmh on exlressway saving time and petrol. Yes i do agree old highway is scenic but these days expressway is bottled with traffic too

No doubt old highway is scenic and I personally find it better compared to Expressway in terms of ghat roads and the greenery !!
However, i prefer expressway for most of the drives, as saving on toll is little and barring ghat section we can maintain 90 - 100 in most do the stretch !! This time we went to old highway just for fun !
Few points
1. Govt. should stop toll in current expressway as the collection has already crossed the requirements/ estimate years back and they are sitting on surplus money
2. Eagerly waiting for the opening of the missing link project which seems to be taking longer !! This project is expected to skip the lonavla ghat in expressway
@@Travidiction Truly, toll collection is just political, if the expressway is something like samruddhi I still say it's damn good since you pay 274rs till shirdi but in one hour of running at 120 you recover your money on petrol. But mumbai Pune expressway sadly is not an expressway anymore. It looks like a shoddy road built now with no maintenance, half dug lanes, akin thane nashik highway. Anyways I watched your video as I had to travel to lonavala this weekend and earlier thought of taking old highway and eating at my fav Vada pav joint midway too, but now I think expressway is the best option , I have installed radarbot app which shows all speed cameras installed and this is helpful to avoid challans too.
