I've tried applying Barbour Thornproof wax (the stuff in a tin that you melt and apply with a brush) to G-1000 with reasonable results. It's a softer and more classy finish than a bar wax and a little better at waterproofing the material. Since G-1000 is 2/3 polyester it's never going to achieve as good a result as 100% cotton since polyester is only going to get coated with wax rather than actually absorbing it.
