- LSU Purple is a medium-sized fig with purple skin and has a nice berry flavor of moderate intensity and moderately sweet.
Several years ago another fig collector commented that they had read that LSU Purple was resistant to root knot nematodes. If that is the case, it may be a good candidate for rootstock for growers that have this problem. - Навчання та стиль
I am in NY, zone 6a. This fig is one of my favorites became it ripens really quickly and survives in ground.
I was thinking about get this one, I am checking out it’s growth and ripening. I’m in SE , PA. I think you just gave me the tip to buy LSU purple. Thank you.
Do you protect it in winter?
Here in Denver CO zone 6 a, I'll be trying LSU hollier and RDB in ground. Will cover with one foot of mulch for the winter. Choosing a warm spot next to a wall is key. Where the snow melts quicker than other areas in the yard. My two cents.
Harvey, I need professional advice! Planting 2 acres in the Sonoran Desert zone 9a, 114 days above 100F with 8% to 12% humidity, 14" rain, lime saturated flood plane. Looking for the strongest berry flavored common fig adaptable to the conditions!
don't you have LSU gold?
I no longer grow LSU Gold. I removed it several years ago to try another variety in that spot. It just didn't perform that well for us.
In your opinion what is the best tasting lsu variety?
I have not had enough different ones to have a legitimate opinion on the matter. I did grow LSU Gold and did not care for it, however, as many spoiled on me so it was removed.
