To be honest, mass effect may be the one trilogy where I cannot remember most most of the music that played during the game. Ironically, it's not because the music was bad, but rather because it was so good that it blended together with thended together with the gameplay to create an excellent experience that proves to be timeless,

This comment is pure gold. Was thinking the same thing, i was oblivious to the saga for like 15 years at least, got a friend who would always talk about it, and then came the legendary edition (all in one, with the full help of the HD no moding etc), went for it, ended in like 3 weeks, noticed nothing, remembered only the Omega club song (in the whole trilogy). But a week ago went to it again, and is exactly like you call, it blends so perfectly, is pretty hard to identify the song, because is like the song was custom made, specially this one, i was just talking to my wife and then the song came into my mind, and my godness, what an awesome feeling it gave me, i even commented to her "Men, the song of this mission is awesome, like made for this moment".

It would be entirely accurate to call it a masterclass, and a moment that's forever burned into our memories, and never gets old no mater how many times it's replayed.
Expiriances like that are so very few and so terribly far between...

@@UNSCPILOT Totally agree. It's baffling that anyone, even Bioware hasn't tried it another time for the 10 years since Mass Effect 2 has been out. The only thing people steal from Bioware games is the dialog box that you make choices with.

@@AllyMonsters Yup. It was done perfectly exactly once and then it was like everyone, including Bioware themselves, forgot how to end a game. So, so many RPG games are great right up until they just... fizzle out in the finale. And every single time I can't help but internally yell "IT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE FOR FUCK'S SAKE, JUST DO IT AGAIN". RPG developers, please, for the love of all that is holy, take notes from ME2's finale, and apply those notes.

    • @AllyMonsters
      @AllyMonsters Рік тому

@@Veloziraptor111 New Vegas is really one of the only other games I can think of that slightly tried to attempt it with the battle of Hoover Dam. And even then, most of the companions really only have the loyalty quests other then Arcade who can help you in the final battle with the Enclave Remnants if you handle his quest correctly. With the other factions filling that gap of ME2 companion choices that effect the suicide mission. Though sadly, ya don't get to make many choice during the Battle of Hoover Dam like in the Suicide Mission.

Mass Effect 2 has one of the best FINAL MISSION tracks of all time. I remember vividly when I played it for the first time all those years ago. I remember I was so immersed in it I just couldn't be distracted. The sense of urgency, the thrill, and the choices can determine the final outcome. Jesus, that was and still is an *EPIC* feeling whenever I hear it. When the drums get louder, the chore keeps growing stronger...ugh....that part makes me run for my life without looking back. One of my best trilogy games and best games I've played of my life.

I get goosebumps every time I hear this song, I really love how layered it is. It has elements from the main menu theme, the Illusive Man's theme, Shepard's theme, and the big bass drums of the Collector ship's theme. All coming together in one awesome piece that plays during one of, if not the most Intense and high stakes sections of any game I've played. I can even almost remember what is happening in-game alongside the music perfectly as it plays. Will always love the ME soundtrack in general, lot of pieces in ME3 are also worth a listen.
If you want something else similar with layered pieces of instrumentation and intensity, may I suggest the Halo 3 Warthog run track, specifically "Halo 3 Warthog Run OST [HQ]" on UA-cam for the full version.

Mass Effect 2, a game about a group of experts, specialists, and professionals who are deeply and utterly broken. Having no purpose in life, no reason to live, or seeking redemption. Shepard, through helping them and showing them compassion and guidance as both a friend and a leader, helps them find a purpose, find a reason to live, redeem themselves, and so on. A beautiful story of taking a broken group of the best, forging deep interpersonal bonds with them, and elevating each other, together, all in the hopes of completing what is ultimately a hopeless suicide mission. But, through uplifting each other, through finding purpose, hope, and redemption, they rise above any conflict, even that of running into hell and back. A story about aiding those you've been through thick and thin with in their darkest hours. Whether or not they make it out alive, they have each other and the chance/hope no one else would give them, because of YOU. Beautiful, beautiful story that fully showcases the capability of Shepard, a deeply broken person in their own right.

There's so, so much to unpack with this piece of music and it's relationship to the companions. We get shades of The Illusive Man's theme in the intro, showing he set us on this path. Mysterious and minimal, it keeps us at arm's length with a looming threat and scant details to go on with. It has an air of alien mystique and an unknowable quality, much like the Collectors themselves - the Reapers tying it all together. Then the more traditional percussion drives us forward: the indomitable drive to survive. Into the unknown, into the fray. It's tense and energetic with its staccato. Strings join in, giving a sense of urgency. We're stuck here, we're facing an advanced technological terror, balanced in between the dying stars in the center of the galaxy.
Then the French horn sounds. That - is Shepard. That is them stepping to the fore and clearly, loudly, saying "Have hope." The other instrumentation tones down and give way to that horn. There's no doubt what it is, it's the Mass Effect theme in reprise. It cuts through the doubt and worry. A rope at the edge of a cliff, a lighthouse in a dark sea. The rest of the more traditional orchestration joins in, violins and brass, drums and bells, cymbals crashing, organic and living, breathing instruments - our companions. And the horn raises them all up over the synthetic drone.
It breaks away again, choral choir calling out, each voice a head turning to face you, Shepard, in their despair and their fears, all shed away as we gain their loyalty. One by one they galvanize and gain more strength and the tones deepen, enriched by the pounding of drums - our fists and fire, accelerator rounds beating the darkness back. Gregorian and operatic, the voices unify and galvanize us to tell the Collectors: "Not one more."
We triumph and overcome, brazen and battered, but not without a hint of smug satisfaction of the cat who got the cream, who were told it was a suicide mission...
But then it fades even more, to the alien keys and the French horn alone, and then to drums echoing into the dark, telling us the only conclusion that can exist: the Reapers are still out there, and Shepard is the only one who can lead us through the dark. We're on the cusp of war. All we did was add some ticks on the clock.

I loved Mass Effect 2 so much back when it came out, and I've listened to its soundtrack so much that I know them all by heart. From the trilogy, I think it stands out the most with how strongly character-focused that music is, how each member of the Suicide Mission is given their own theme that rounds out their character. I think that is why people got so attached to these characters even when, purely taken by the text itself, there isn't actually that much dialogue or narration to these characters from a modern point of view when I replayed the remaster trilogy recently.

And you knew that the devs took full advantage of EA's collection of many things to help move things along. And ya know? Still worked perfectly. So next time you're in the Afterlife club, that's the "Showcase" version of the song Calista, and it's gotta be one of my favorite EDM pieces. So chill, and yet still so invigorating. This is hands down, the absolute BEST rendition of the mass effect theme. Has big "i am the hope of the universe. I am the answer to all things that cry out for peace. I am the light in the darkness. I am truth. Ally to good! Nightmare to you!" energy. You can really feel that shepard is just one man...a normal man...standing up to eldric horrors that are the greatest threat in the history of the universe, that have toppled many civilizations. And he is essentially facing this threat alone. Even though he knows he most likely cant defeat them, he will still give it his all and die trying if he has to.

"I played the ever loving (BEEP) out of Mass Effect 2"
I feel you Bro! I found it in the bargain bin in the Navy Exchange, in 2011, and played it 3 times in a row. I have never played any game twice. I play it, and move on to a new game. But I was so hooked, I wanted to play it again. So I downloaded ME1, and went to the local Best Buy to find Mass Effect 3, which had recently been released. The store didn't have a copy, so he searched the data base for the Jacksonville area, and found one Collector's Edition at a nearby store. He asked them to hold it for me, and I drove straight there.
I have since played the trilogy many times. Now, I am thinking about a second play through of the Legendary Edition, but with many mods.
Great to see a fellow fanatic, and I enjoyed your analysis of one of my all-time favorite Mass Effect songs.
Do you plan to do other Mass Effect songs? And what are your thoughts about Mass Effect 4 being made as we speak?

    • @leroyrussell8766
      @leroyrussell8766 Рік тому

@@MarcoMeatball I couldn't agree more. I did play Andromeda, but I waited, and modded the heck out of it. Made it playable, but still not anywhere near as good as the OT.
BTW, if you ever want to try out Star Citizen, I have a second account you can try it with...or you can wait until one of their free fly events. It is best if you try it with an experienced player. It can be a bit overwhelming if you try it alone. But with an experienced player, your questions can be answered right away. Drastically reduces the learning curve.
You could also just wait until Squadron 42 is released. AFAIK, that will act as a bit of a tutorial for Star Citizen. SC is the multiplayer version, and SQ42 is the single player version. Look up the Squadron 42 trailer. You will know you have it when you see Gillian Anderson in the beginning, saying, "I saw that you applied to the Flight Academy, again."
In addition to her, the cast includes the following big stars:
      Gary Oldman
      Mark Hamill
      Henry Cavill
      Mark Strong
      Sophie Wu
      John Rhys-Davies
      Liam Cunningham
      Jack Huston
      Ben Mendelsohn
      Rhona Mitra
      Andy Serkis
      Ian Duncan
      Gemma Whelan
      Jason Wong
      Eleanor Tomlinson
I don't think there has ever been an all-star cast like this in a video game, since the Mass Effect trilogy.
So now I have to ask, have you ever thought about doing voice acting for video games? It seems to be the hot new thing for people with voice talent. I'm sure that singing Opera requires an amazing amount of talent, so I'm 100% positive you could be a great voice actor, also!

I'm so glad you loved ME too. Its probably my favorite game saga of all times (yeah even considering ME3 ending....) its these games which gave me the will and motivation to be the game designer I'm now.
The Mass Effect OST is one of my favorite for all the incredible feelings and memories it carries... Like "This is what you are", "Suicide Mission" and the main theme of ME3 are amongst my all time favorite songs (even if that last one is literrally painfull to handle for me).
Once again you prove to be my favorite video game music UA-camr, your passion and honest love for both music and video games are a true pleasure to behold and share.
You are the reason why, us, game devs, we are making games with all our guts (yeah even on very commercial games, with the worst editors, most of the devs try their best...).
I unfortunately can't afford a patreon, but I hope it will help you keep doing this videos !
Can't wait to see you listening to ME3 OST and its infinite amount of tears...
Little challenge : I don't know if you know anything about 40k, but if you don't, I'm very curious to see if you can guess what "Mechanicus" is about just by listening "Noosphere" or "Childrens of the Omnissiah".

I loved Mass Effect 2 as well. One of the best RPGs of that decade. After living to see past 2020, I can safely say that Mass Effect 2 is the best RPG of that decade. Sure, Mass Effect 3 beats it in gameplay, but story-wise and mission-wise, ME2 was the big daddy of the 2010s RPGs. It came out in the beginning of that decade, and was never dethroned. Kind of like how Super Mario World came out during the beginning of the 90s, and was the best platformer game in that decade.

This song set the tone of the whole mission beautifully. Everyone is staring death in the face, and they are absolutely terrified. However, instead of falling pray to that fear they chose to fight back. They chose to face death head on. Whether they lived or died didn't matter anymore to them. They were all nothing more than outcasts, but they chose to risk everything for the galaxy which refused them. If their sacrifice meant that people could continue to live without worry, then so be it. They would gladly die if it meant the galaxy would be safe.
