Charles Westover (aka Del Shannon) lived right night door to a friends' house in Northridge, Ca. in the 1970's. What a fabulous falsetto voice that he had!!
I was president of the International Del Shannon Fan Club from 1965 to 1968, and I used to talk with him on the phone every two months for interviews for the club bulletins. He called me after I wrote him a fan letter in which I told him that I had copies of his Coke and Pepsi commercials - he did not even have those - and he asked me to run his fan club for him.

But before that Elvis was Elvis, in the late 1950s, with A Big Hunk o' Love, I Got Stung, Hard Headed Woman, Trouble, etc. Elvis Presley has no "best" song. He declined - in my opinion - after 1964 (Devil in Disguise was great).

I am proud to be a member of that generation. In the early '60s, we had so many of our own good talent and really did not need the music of foreigners.

I was born in 1959, so l heard these for the first time on an oldie show right here in Houston, Texas in 1974, and l bought them that summer at an oldie store. I was into oldies as l grew up.
