Why Is Your Hard Drive Beeping?

You may try to boot up your computer one day, only to be met with an error message telling you that your computer cannot find a device to boot from. You pull out the hard drive, and when you try to power it on your worst fears are confirmed. The hard drive doesn’t spin up. You can’t hear the happy “click” that comes when the read/write heads unpark and position themselves over the platters (this is the “good” click, as opposed to the notorious “click of death”). Instead, your hard drive makes an unusual and repetitive beeping noise.
