    I like the new table talk approach, it feels more personal, like you're actually sitting down to have lunch or something with your viewers and talk about movies. I like it man, plus the wall art ain't bad to see either 😉

      I got a new piece of wall art yesterday that you can't see on the video. I'll have to message you a picture of it later. I love it!

    Solid list. Side note, I really do miss how films on average had shorter run times. Don't get wrong, i love a great 3 hr film. But come on, a lot of films recently overstay the run time. Not to mention, it feels like extra work trying to plan around a 3 1/2, 4 hr film lol

    Bryan, it's great that you saw all 10, and I enjoyed hearing your list and reasoning behind it. I've seen six so far, and my ranking is as follows, from best to worst: Oppenheimer, The Holdovers, Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon, Past Lives, and Maestro (while I liked Maestro more than you did, it is still on a level below the first five, and I liked and agree with your compare/contrast with Past Lives). Also, the first two are the only ones of my top five that I feel are pretty firm in standing, with the next three perhaps to be shuffled around given the day and mood. I still really want to see American Fiction and The Zone of Interest, and I will probably also see Poor Things, though I have been put off some by the trailers and some of what I've heard of it (though I did like, or at least appreciate, the two films I have seen of that filmmaker, Dogtooth and The Lobster). Also, I saw a little under half of Barbie on a reaction channel, and I at this point don't have a strong desire to see the rest, though I might give it a go when I have Max for a month again sometime.

    Interesting to hear your list Bryan! I really liked Poor Things but I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be your thing.
    I definitely agree with your thoughts KotFM and Barbie. I’m someone that’s happy for people to put political elements in movies as long as they’re done well. Liked Barbie a lot but there was a couple of eye roll moments!
    Oppenheimer was incredible.
    Need to see Zone of interest and Anatomy of a fall. Not sure I can face Maestro 😂

    I’ve only seen 5 of the nominees. Here’s my ranking:
    5. Barbie
    4. Killers of the Flower Moon
    3. Past Lives
    2. The Holdovers
    1. Oppenheimer (easily)
    Barbie is the only one of these films I’m not really a big fan, Killers of the Flower Moon was great but too long imo. It could have been almost an hour shorter than it was. Past Lives and The Holdovers were absolutely fantastic and some of my favorites of last year. And Oppenheimer is tied with Across the Spider Verse as my favorite film of 2023. Just an outstanding film in every way.

      @@BryanLomax thanks dude! My personal favorite films of 2023 ranked were:
      5) Past Lives
      4) The Holdovers
      3) Godzilla Minus One
      2) and 1) Oppenheimer and Across the Spider-Verse
      I’m so glad Godzilla Minus One won Best Visual Effects. That film blew me away with how good its CGI was especially on a super low budget of 15 million US dollars. Compared to the overblown expensive crap Hollywood puts out constantly, it’s quite mindblowing.

    Just curious..what do you think should have beat out Parasite in 2020? I personally think that was one of the most correct Academy decisions ever.
    Hard agree on Oppy.

    • @BryanLomax
      @BryanLomax  5 місяців тому

      Yeah, I really need to watch Parasite again, coz I feel like maybe I missed something first time around. I still rated it a 4/5 though and thought it was a great film. I also thought that was one of the strongest selection of movies nominated for BP in the same year. Not a bad film among them. But personally I'd have gone with Joker.

    • @user-ov7cd7yw9f
      @user-ov7cd7yw9f 5 місяців тому

      Fair enough, respectfully disagree.
      I think Joker is a good movie, lot's ai love about it. Chiefly, production design, score, and acting. It's just hard to completely get past it being very derivative of 2 much better scorcese movies, taxi driver and king of comedy. Hey, just one man's opinion.

    • @BryanLomax
      @BryanLomax  5 місяців тому

      @@user-ov7cd7yw9f personally I've always found Taxi Driver a bit overrated. I've never connected to the central character. And being derivative isn't necessarily a bad thing. The fact that Avatar and The Last Samurai are derivatives of Dances With Wolves doesn't stop either one being a great movie in its own right. It's all in the execution. And having a brother on the fringes of society, due to autism, getting messed about by social services, made the film very relatable to me.

    Poor things and Barbie just weren’t for me either.
    Maestro was terrible imo.
    Lily Gladstone was robbed. I didn’t feel the film was that long at all. I didn’t feel the length at all but that’s me.
    A lot of films I wanted to be nominated or win this year didn’t get in.
    Perfect Days didn’t get anything
    All of Us Strangers, Fallen Leaves, Peasants, Iron Claw, Promised Land and Raptito weren’t nominated at all.
