  • Overview:
    This video gives a general overview of the PianoBox Pro sound module and how it can be a great solution for incorporating dedicated sounds for midi controllers. This solution opens up new opportunities for the use of midi controllers inside of keyboard rigs specifically for live performances.

    I’m still using my iPhone XR as a sound module for my MIDI keyboard. What’s great about this solution is the portability, it’s battery powered (you can simply add a power bank for longer use), and most important - the ability to save my songs or melodies as MIDI via GarageBand iOS. Having my melodies that I created on the go saved as MIDI is great because when I get back home, I can send this MIDI (via iRig Midi 2) out to ANY synthesizer OR real piano that has MIDI IN. I then use a Zoom H4N Pro to record the audio coming from that instrument. I love this setup.

    Thanks for the video. I’m a newbie: Is there a possibility to split the keys with a setup like this? Say, left hand some bass sound + right hand electric piano? Generally asking: Is the split option dependent on the controller or the sound module?
    (I was looking at a cheap Alesis V49 controller for live use as it fits perfectly on my Korg organ).
    Thanks, cheers from Berlin!

    • @quippmedia8777
      @quippmedia8777  Рік тому +2

      Unfortunately it doesn't split keys - that would be a bit more of an advanced feature. Your controller would probably do it easy enough but the module itself doesn't support that.

      Hi - it does have organ sounds. The standard ones that come with the GM sounds bank and a few additional that are in the EMU sound bank. The manual doesn’t show any sound effects really just the 64 GM sounds and the 64EMU sounds.

    I'd love to be able to use my Launchkey Mini MK3 in the park with my friends doing beatbox to improvise and create some music. Would my MIDI and this device connected to some portable speakers do the trick? If so... do you know by any chance which speaker would be good but portable enough so I can carry the three things together in my backpack??
    I've been looking for this type of setup for quite a while, but I can't find any tutorial on how to doit.
    I Love your video. Thank you for your time.

      Thanks for watching! Yes you can configure this to portable powered speakers. Just remember the PianBox Pro uses the USB port for power only. So your midi controller will need power via a computer or direct power if it has that option. The PianoBox will need a USB power source then you can connect the 1/4 audio outputs from the PianoBox to speakers or even a small mixer. IMPORTANT: your midi controller has to have the 5pin midi output functionality to communicate with the PianoBox Pro. As for a speaker option - Behringer makes a small powered portable monitor (Behringer Eurolive B208D 200 Watt 2-Way Active PA) for small venus (wont fit in a gig bag but its small and portable). I did post a video on the channel about how you can connect everything so that may help. Heres the link to that video ua-cam.com/video/_nwJq9IL-ys/v-deo.html. Hope that helps!

    Hey bud does this box act as a audio interface as well because i didnt see a focusrite or anything.
    And can you do an in depth on how you set eveything up.

    • @quippmedia8777
      @quippmedia8777  2 роки тому +2

      Hey - No - it’s not an audio interface. I’m running the audio out of it into a Behringer compact mixer. That same mixer is actually an audio interface that receives the computer output via usb. So the small 4 channel mixer is receiving the computer input as well the piano box output. That allows me to feed audio from the mixer back to the main soundboard. Before this my Yamaha motif was an audio interface/keyboard and that’s how I could send my computer and keyboard sounds combined into 1 stereo output back to the soundboard. Thus set up is the same basic principle. Thanks for watching and I’ll put together a deep dive to explain that in more detail soon!

    When you play this keyboard, it feels like it's a live synth, not a midi keyboard. I bought an Arturium Mk 3 but I can't play it like you because there is always a slight delay between the keystroke and the actual sound and it kills live music. I tried to change the buffer s i z e. it reduces latency, but it's still big enough to prevent me from playing live music like a live synth. Can you give me some advice?

    • @quippmedia8777
      @quippmedia8777  Рік тому

      Hey - thanks for watching. Not sure what kind of computer you're on how fast it is or the programs you use but I'll at least tell you what I would try. My current computer (mac) has 16g of RAM. I do run my sounds through Mainstage but I have noticed its a lot more processor heavy when Third Party synth instruments are used with it. While I am not experiencing an issue with latency you might try using stand alone instruments (software synth that will just serve as a soundbank without something like mainstage or Logic hosting it) and only running that software and quitting all other programs to see if it does any better. I also use a program that helps me see how to computer is performing while running my programs so I can know whether or not it's an issue of the computer trying to keep up. If you have already reduced buffer as low as you can, I'd start considering the specs on the computer - again trying to give any input I could but I just don't know what you're actually using in your rig?

      @@romeou4965 I'm guessing there isn't anymore. MIDI gear is considered professional and professionals don't have a problem spending money on their tools. for amateurs there are home keyboard, digital pianos, and entry level synths. Anyway, I've used sound modules in the past, the roland JV, XV, Fantom series.. starting about 2010-2015, there was just no way they could keep up with even a modest laptop.

    • @quippmedia8777
      @quippmedia8777  Рік тому +1

      Hey - Glad you asked but No - that's not how it works for this device. The USB port is only for power to the "piano box pro". So yes you will need power for your midi keyboard and remember that the connectivity from the midi keyboard to the piano box is the old school 5pin midi cable. Again glad you asked as that USB port on the piano box pro is misleading - it is only to supply power to the unit and nothing else.

    Im vintage player and vintage to. I still have all my old expanders K1r, K5m Proteus 1-2 , Fs1r. Last one i bought and diserving expander name was Blofeld. Currently there are only Roland Integra , and Keytron expander available with all 16 midi channel and big sound library. Korg has kill last good stage synth the Kronos. Now combining sound on both world , computer and older hardware. But its a pity not having a good hardware sampler with a good software to build sounds or import library for lazy musicians. Most Brands dont make instruments for musician anymore, but just little tools for music programmers who have poor knowledge of what music really is. AI is coming soon and will replace all current daw crapp with better AI crapp soon. Maybe a chance for real musician.
