Why there is shunt resistance in ammeter and series resistance in voltmeter?

Because in ammeter current range we want to increase. So when Shunt is connected some current will also pass through it. So shunt in Ammeter.
Also in Voltmeter we know voltage is not same in series so some voltage drop happen across the series resistance also. So total voltage measuring increases
