So sad that the leader of Africa in the 1950 were not able to construct the Pan African continent. Am very sure Africa would be in such a big different situation
From the moment this economist drops the phrase "bourgeois economics," the political bias becomes obvious. He uses loaded words like "looting" to confuse an audience of economically illiterate viewers, and to create the impression that an injustice is being done to Africans when it is not. "By "looting," he means paying a market price for Africa's commodities. When he speaks of Africa getting less wealthy from foreign trade, he means that he believes the market price is too low, and/or that foreign companies should be investing more in Africa. But nobody is obliged to pay above market price for commodities from Africa or anywhere else, and no foreign capital owner is obliged to invest where conditions do not warrant such investment. Bottom line: We are going on 60 years since most of Africa gained its independence from colonial rule. While former colonies in Asia have progressed economically, and in a few cases have achieved first world development, Africa has failed to prosper. Many African countries have failed even to maintain the levels of development achieved during the colonial era. This abysmal performance has given rise to an industry of grievance mongers selling the myth that Africa's problems are the fault of everybody but Africans. This fellow is a perfect example. But the causes of Africa's poverty are internal. Nothing will change until Africans address them.

I just read the World Bank report discussed. Sharmini's summary in the beginning of the video is deceptive or incompetent. She states: "The main reason for this loss (of wealth) is that trans-national corporations are extracting mineral wealth, and that Africa is not receiving a comparable value to compensate for this extraction." NOWHERE does the report say that, or anything like it. What is says is that a number of natural resource exporting countries in Africa (by no means all) have FAILED TO OFFSET the export of their natural wealth by making investments in infrastructure, human capital, etc. That is quite a different matter. The failure to invest is indeed a problem. The causes that the report mentions are varied (mismanagement, internal politics, pressures on per capita wealth from rapid population growth, political instability, etc.). However, to claim that "looting" by trans-national corporations is the cause is to misrepresent what is in this report. Sharmini, I hope you read this. And then I hope you read the hateful and bigoted comments that your misreporting has incited below. Are you proud of that? Is this the standard of journalism to which you aspire?
What she stated was the truth. Afra IS being looted, you just can't read between the lines. Maybe you should try to think critically before you respond with nonsense.
By "read between the lines" perhaps you mean "claim this report says something it does NOT say." Yeah, that's called lying. Maybe you should read it before you reply with your nonsense.
Trey Greason first they have to succeed in maintaining a stable country or at least feeding themselves. Refugee camps/cities in Africa producing 3rd generation of "refugees" or "victims" of a drought that was over in the 1990s.
Trey Greason - Why do you group highly intelligent people acc to "color" instead of addressing the environmental influences? Are you stating that "black" people going to colleges in the US or Europe or wherever public education is widely available from pre school thru high school are less intelligent than "white" people applying to the same universities? What about" brown" people? Are they less intelligent than "whites" & more intelligent than "blacks"? Are blue-eyed blonds the most intelligent? Didn't Hitler preach the same ideology? He turned out to be one of the dumbest bastards to ever exist!
This is disgusting. I always knew, but to see an actual number attached to it makes it worse.
Don't forget about the over fishing of African waters. Even African fishermen are not exempt from the theft.
What a disgrace! 😠
Africa is blessed by God
They can have their own resources when we find More in space

All those chocolates you're buying for Valentines and Easter? Make sure it wasn't made off of the blood of endangered animals and their homes.

Unfortunately Africa will remain the way it is until A foreign power introduces genetic engineering to raise the average IQ.

These 70 iq people need to be left alone to utilize these resources
