It’s 1989. The glaring halogen lamps from the white track lights above illuminate the slat wall displaying the seasons hottest trends. Screeching hangars against the racks muddle the distance as you make your way into the mall halls. The scene is lit with stone wash jeans, Adidas high tops, mullets, flat tops and perms. It’s the days of Nintendo and MTV. A gentle rain patterns against the sky lights. Pizza beckons you from the food courts.
I can smell the mall. and I can smell the food court too. an intoxicating mix of Chinese food and Sbarro pizza. Tough to simply walk by and not salivate like Pavlov's dog.
The feeling of nostalgia when you hear this hits you head on. Think back to your youth of shopping through a shopping center or mall that doesn't exist anymore, the dystopian feeling it has is that of loss and sadness that something is just a memory and no longer there.
@@zombiedude8027 Agreed. I only care about retro/nostalgic things.. All of the music, fashion, and other things nowadays are absolute garbage. I'm sad that things like malls are just fading into memories..
@ethnically american The 2000's and all the way up to 2011 is where things stopped being good at all, even remotely, at least even the internet had a frontier, wild west, free, simple, and nostalgic feel to it, now there is nothing like that anymore. The song reminds me of the 70s and 80s when my mother was a young mom at the time, and I was a baby I miss the old fun times in the mall, and watching a lot of people shopping, eating at the food lobby I am now 21 year's old, and this song is nostalgia to my ears.
I like how they made it sound like a worn-out cassette, which gives it a very authentic 80s vibe to it, but is there a version of this song that doesn't have the worn-out cassette effects? I.E., it sounds like a brand-new recording?
@@Teraforce88 The worn out cassette effect comes from the slowing down of the original track. Unless you're talking about the tune being drenched in reverb.
I LOVE the worn-out cassette reverb sound, it's a huge part of the appeal of Vaporwave. I imagine this is what it would sound like if you were by yourself walking through an old nearly vacant mall, played over worn out ceiling speakers.
I was poor in the 80s but didn't give a damn, still had lots of fun, a hell of a lot more then I do now even though I have a job and can afford to own a car. Of course the job is so stressful I wish I could just do over and go back to those days instead. Seriously hate these past 2 decades.

seriously
I'm actually doing just that, was listening in the car all day and now its been on loop at home for hours. LOLZ
If 2019 was a song
Vaporwave makes me want to open an 80s themed mall & just have soundtracks of Vaporwave playing all day
I'd invest
I'll be there 👍
That would be the coolest thing ever. A retro mall for people to hang out.
You can do it! in the net.

Sampled from "American Gypsy - The Champ", the original song
This song is assuring and positively reinforcing. "we'll be alright, baby wanna tell we'll be all right"
I thought they were saying “come incorrect, baby no chance!” 🤣🤣
i wish malls still played this kind of music :(
But malls are being abandoned or loosing things and it's sad
the one near me still does lol
No music at the strip mall sadly :(
"This is Dan Bell" brought me here, and I actually really enjoy this track! Has that real 1980s new wave vibe to it.

This is a fucking masterpiece
I imagine myself driving to the mall on a saturday during the 80s. And also was playing this.
i freaking love that picture and what a kewl song too.

I love how this track continuously fades from left to right to left to right.. somehow makes it feel oddly more empty
I hope there is an late 80s mall with music like this in heaven
One of the most important vaporwave records ever made
It's your big comeback, baby you're the champ !
My favorite high song 👌
I see you're Man of culture as well
Hell yeah man! Listen to this, lights off or have neon lit room while on cannabis, LSD or shrooms and you won't regret it!

Mallwave and 80's capitalism
Yeah it was a great time to be a teenager back in the 80's

Only if you were in United States, Canada. We had the damn USSR in Europe during the 80s, it was a living hell.

Reminds of 80's skate boards and Vans shoes which i still wear.

but my favorite hobby

why am I crying?
This is absolutely one of the quintessential mallsoft tracks in my mind, so I'm surprised to find that the art doesn't suggest malls at all
❤ Disconscious!
Great jam
Simple and good
Walking through the mall. Eating at the food court, shopping at the stores. Then closing it all out with some arcade action. Good times
The first 10 seconds are brilliant, i wish the rest of the track had that same intensity and range
I play this in church
Dunno bout y’all, but I’m still living in the 80s, ain’t no reason I can’t
Must say, much more interesting than the original version of the song.
+BluncheonMeat I'm curious, what is the original version of this song?
Slow the original down to 0.75 speed, it sounds epic
When you watch vaporwave on a broken VHS tape 📼
I love this song I can play it on a loop.
Has to come here for my morning dose 🎶🙏
I thought he was saying “Come incorrect, baby no chance” 😂 actually, “we’ll be aright. Baby wanna tell. Baby wanna tell.”
The comments to songs like these are a bit of a rabbit hole... My friends, why so melancholy ? The present day is beautiful too :)
No it's not it sucks
Thanks emplemon
i had listened to this previously in a mallsoft playlist so hearing it in the new video was a very pleasant suprise
Still fresh.
Listening to this while entering the main plaza makes going to the mall 100x better
