Thanks for watching today's episode - let me know down below what you thought of today's performances! I've always wanted to hear this EPIC ensemble work again at some point in real life... hopefully things will go back to normal in 2021 and we can have performances like this again all over the world 😁 And if you want to check out my new #STUDIOFAMILY collection it's at adamtanpercussion.com/merch 👕 #TheStudioFamily
@@AdamTanPercussion There were definitely pros and cons to playing the piece. One major pro, the piece is a HUGE crowd pleaser and it is fun to play from start to end. One major con, it takes a lot of time to learn, and since so much time is dedicated to this piece (at least for our ensemble), it was hard to also learn and master the other pieces for our concert and recitals. I’m super glad we pulled it off, though!
I really hope that Adams 3 person piece can be available to play next year for a state solo and ensemble comp. Im planning to play Lotus next year as a solo, so maybe i can play a tan solo and a tan ensemble 👀
my prof always said if you use a stand keep it below the edge of marimba, try to not block the keys from view. and your body language is a huge selling point of a piece.
dang i left university and i wasn't as good as those highschoolers. don't even think I could perform some of those part that confidently and as accurate as some of them. i was lucky to have a small studio of 4 people and had a lot of lessons with my professor. but big ensembles like this was not possible. but we did join another university to play ionization and steve reich drumming which was a blast with all that phasing.
HEY ADAM!!! I just wanted to ask really quickly, is there a way that your subscribers can get your intro sound so we can spot other subscribers in public? I also absolutely love the sound!
The absolute scale of Collide is ridiculous. You can talk about how difficult it is all day, and that's what most people tend to do with pieces like this, but just the resources required to perform the piece are just as difficult to put together. You need 6 5 octaves when some universities don't have more than 2, let alone a high school in like in this video. And on top of that all the other various instruments you need for it, you also need 17 people in the ensemble just to have the parts covered. There's a lot of high schools in the US that are lucky if they have 17 total percussionists in their program, let alone 17 at this level of ability. That's arguably almost as hard to come by as multiple 5 octaves owed by the one school.
Yes... I think if a school is serious enough to get all of that gear and foster a culture where players like that will take a piece like that seriously, then they are certainly a school that cares about music education very much :)
Great find but I'd REALLY appreciate if you didn't feel the need to speak sooooo much. This is an excellent performance of a technically difficult piece, and they played it with feel. I appreciate hearing music that doesn't sound or feel like it's coming off a sheet of paper. Please, just let the music roll. The less you interrupt it, the more legit whatever you say will be taken. Thanks
Thanks Chad, but like I've said in all my videos, if you want to watch the video without my commentary you can always just watch the full video in the description. The whole point of me making these types of videos is for me to comment and find discussion points about them, otherwise I'm just plagiarising people's videos which is very unfair to them. I'm more than happy to know that you'd rather watch the performance over my commentary so go support them please :)
@@AdamTanPercussion Go Adam! I love your commentary and I watch your channel for it. I also appreciate that you always link to the original videos so I can go watch the full video as-is when I want to.

I was in the ensemble that played collide! We worked on it for almost a whole year and we ended up playing it in our marching show next year as well.
You guys are so awesome!!
yea definitely was tired after playing about 8 mins of straight 16th note runs but still one of my absolute favorite pieces to have been apart of. :)
You didn't look tired at all! You did an awesome job :)
And here I am trying to forget my experience with Collide. Jacob Remington is a great composer, I had a great time playing Prelude to Paradise
I played the xylo part in this video. Collide was definitely a beast, and playing it at PASIC was incredible.
You did awesome Sam! Thank you for your hard work :)
My university played Collide recently... It is a BEAST of a piece. It was lots of fun to play though, a great workout
Ah you guys are lucky, wish I could play in it haha

@@TaylorAtwood took 11 months to learn and perfect collide for Berkner
Haven't even watched the video and I know its gonna be AWESOME
Man I played the Xylo part for collide in high school, no joke one of the most fun and hardest pieces I think I will ever play
imagine getting to do indoor that season
I go to Berkner right now and the 2018 percussion section was goated🐏💚
You're the next generation :))
Great Bassoon player!!! Awesome arrangement!
Thanks for bringing back the memories of this crazy piece. RIP to DC’s arms after conducting this piece lol
Hahaha man, there's a reason why DC goes to the gym ;)
8:42 I LOVE this vibe solo, does anyone know where I could find a transcription for it? I really dont feel like buying the whole score just to see it.
I had to play xylo for Prelude to Paradise. Im a snare player. Dont know what my director was thinking.
Great music

It's about 60% done now - you are too kind to play so much of my music!! Thank you :)))
We played that in high school (Westwood HS) and it took 6 months (so it probably wasn't as good) but that was so fun
Ah man I'm jealous, wish our schools here could keep up with that kind of repertoire!
you should check out prelude to paradise. its written very similar to collide
my prof always said if you use a stand keep it below the edge of marimba, try to not block the keys from view.

I agree 100%, open space in front of you makes it much easier to be flexible with your body!
Very good

At this point I'm no longer surprised at such statements hahahaha
THat musser vibe in the 1st vid is stickered
Our percussion are very cool good stuff !
I think so too :)
Top 10 two mallet solos!!! I'd like to know your opinion on it.
i wanna play it , but i feel like my hands are gonna get tired halfway, and i prob am too bad for it
Haha I feel you man!
I go to the school that played collide

Ah you guys did a different style of flexing ;) drumming is a great work too!
WOW 6 MARIMBAS DID NOT THINK THAT WAS POSSIBLE
Corona Del Sol High School Percussion Ensemble has like 8 5 octave marimbas
Well... they are definitely well equipped then ahahaha

nice
Hi! I got two timpani! There’s no room in my house so they are at a relatives!!
That's awesome! You have more to play with :)
@@AdamTanPercussion ikr!

Your school is epic!
