I was told by an old musician that any music biz is much like those old 1800s wells and water pumps. You have to work to pump and pump the handle waiting and waiting with the water bucket, working up a sweat doing it. However, once the water eventually starts flowing out of the spout, it takes much less effort on the handle to keep it going continuously. Sounds like starting sync is a similar principle.
