the 1255U may feel intimidating with some cases, but msi had done a great job when mini pc finally not just consumes low power and decent enough performance, but having Thunderbolt is also a neat little surprise as well if one need an egpu
Changed my old Intel NUC 5 to MSI Cubi N 12M with i3-1215U for mini-server use in home. It's really good alternative for NUC's for home use. But NUC's is very, VERY customizable through theirs bios settings. For home use this fine settings are less necessary and MSI Cubi is a good point. I like it! Hope to see review of a new more cheaper MSI Cubi N ADL on this channel. I've just ordered it for use as a second number PC for working in homeoffice. Ordered without reading many reviews, because it's not very different of 12M, just more cheaper and have less performance and extension options.
I enjoyed this review as I was curious to see what MSI was offering. I like the fact that the bottom is metal and is vented, but despite the 3 year warranty, I can't get past the fact that MSI is selling this for $400 (barebones) when an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H (with 16/512) can be had for $330. Both are at least a generation old, but while slightly slower single-thread, on multi this Intel is 20% behind that AMD. I wouldn't mind paying more for 3 years and US-based support, but not that much more. Granted, there are things like the 1GB and 2.5GB wired ports, but still.
thanks for the awesome review!. where can i buy the remote power button. mine didn't come with one. MSI said, they don't have any for sale and i'd have to get one 3rd party vendor. where can i get one that would work with this unit
@@Robtech Nice! I got mine today as well :) I noticed it’s drawing much more power than the Cubi 5. Not sure if I should actually return it and get a 5 instead. They still advertise the 1m as very greeen and environment friendly, that’s why I waited for it…

i had a msi cube with intel n6000 cpu, it was the worst mini pc i ever had, always throttling because the cooling was so bad, it was so fucking slow, while the n6000 is not a bad cpu at all.
You had any msi cubi with passive cooler? I have passive-cooled MSI Cubi 8GL with intel celeron n4000 and it works perfectly in mini-server role without heavy workloads. Also have MSI Cubi N 12M (as in this review) with i3-1215u and it's not very silent under high workload, but has no problems with overheating or throttling. I think that different models of cubies are designed differently... Current models in the budget segment with N100 and N200 CPU's are N ADL and N ADL S, where "S" means "silent". This silent version have minimal adjusted TDP to avoid any problems with throttling again, but low performance because of it... Worst mini pc i ever had is morefine m6 with the same of yours intel n6000 CPU... It has total overheating with it's very small and very loud fan...
@@bluesrockerhi, how loud the fan under workload in db terms; more than 36db? If you could give me a little feedback, I am planing to purchase a cubi 5 12m i3-1215u model. The fan noise is the major subject for me in decision making process...thank you in advance...
Thanks for the review! I hope new Snapdragon X Elite/Plus are released soon and we can have MiniPCs that you can review!
Going to cost some serious $$$.

Love reviews of low power units like this, really interesting for people who consider or are already living offgrid.

Could always use a usb 3 2.5G ethernet adapter if that is needed.
I appretiate this video, i was considering getting one for my sister once her laptop stopps working

It should have been included in the box (it was with mine). Did it looked opened or previously used?
Can you make a comparison with its successor, the Cubi 1M, that came out a few weeks ago?
It'll be reviewed in a week or two. I just received it today.

I'm interested but is this the Intel chip that won't run Windows 10?
Is there heating problem?? Seems less fans in narrow space. Use cooler like notebook cooler is a must?

Unfortunately no

Can you compare Cubi 5 12M with Mac Mini M2 ? The most important things for me are the performance and the noise level.
hi, will photoshop 2020 work on this PC?
Yes, no problem.
Very interesting. Great job.
What operating system is best for this?
Windows 11 or Linux should work fine. Ubuntu was tested without issue.

3:02 You can add a 2.5 SATA SSD but I don't see another M.2 slot.
Glad I witched this, just canceled my order, thanks. 👍
Cancelled MSI CUBI?
Yeah, overpriced and not worth it even more so now
For a N100 price, this would be awesome.
