  • The Travel Buddy is an awesome oven for those who want to cook on the road BUT it was only designed to be used while the vehicle's engine is on and the voltage is higher than the usual 12 volt range.
While it is possible to use a generator and a battery charger to bring the voltage up to the required level, a better solution is a step-up converter.

I’ve been running a step up inverter for the last couple of years. Works a treat, just be away that as you battery drops in voltage it draws more amps to maintain 13.8v. The flip side of course is that your cook times are less so you save on battery juice. Enjoy😎👍

We have just started experimenting with it and discovered that it really does bump up the cooking temp. It also seems to activate a thermostat in the Travel Buddy as the oven turns off and then back on which is something I have never seen it do before.

Did you ever get around to doing a video on the install and performance of the the step up converter 👍

Hmmm, No, I haven't done one yet. Probably about time I did :) In short though, the step up converter makes the oven much more efficient when cooking with the engine off. It does chew more power but as long as there is plenty of solar, that isn't a problem.

We had hoped to have the step up converter in time for our current trip but thanks to Australia Post's appauling service, it didn't arrive the day they said it was on board for delivery and we have to leave today.

We already changed the plug to an Anderson. The one that comes with the TB is completely useless.

Step up converter should come as a standard accessory

Well yo be fair the manufacturers say the TB is for use when the engine is running and that is how mist people use them but they should at least give people the option of a step up I think.
