My guess is they left this out because they already had one vision quest/spirit walk episode with the Guru... but honestly this sounds much better than that episode was. Aang actually confronting and conflicting with his past lives rather than with a piece of handed down wisdom from an impassive teacher feels much more lively.
I don’t agree with you on this being better than Guru Patik, but this is pretty good.
It wasn't ever meant to be an episode. It was an online story novel game that was released and is canon. This is what it was supposed to be.
@@saturnianrings3920 am i the only one who feels like the guru patik stuff was a bit of a cop out? maybe it’s because i haven’t watched the episode in a minute, but from what i remember they spent one, maybe two minutes showing some sort of flashback or visual and then it was just,, done? not to mention it was all centered around katara which i think was a really stupid choice.
you mean to tell me the only thing keeping aang “connected” is katara? not appa, the sole person left from his old life? not even toph or sokka? not even a little?
personally i hate how they played out the romance between aang and kata, the show would have been just as good- if not better- without it. i feels like someone perfectly decorated their room and then threw a sheet on a chair that looks like grandma’s curtains threw up all over it. maybe that’s a controversial take, if it is i’d love to hear someone else’s side
@@nadeezn From what I remember , it was actually about dropping your earthly ties.
Katana was just one of those earthly ties.
Also, it probably seemed short because Aang didn’t give up Katsra.
@@saturnianrings3920 that’s perfectly fine for her to be an earthly tie, but i don’t remember literally anyone else from the gaang even being mentioned which is why it trips me up.
as for short, i was referring to the time i took to open up each of the chakras. felt like filler at best and a copout at worst to me
This would've been good set-up for the arc that Korra went through with losing Raava
Korra didn't lose Raava.
@@vetarlittorf1807 she lost touch with raava during the 3 years after she was poisoned
@@nvcomics No. She was just deafened to Raava, but they were still connected.
@@vetarlittorf1807 i know raava was still there but its evident that when she reconnected and said "Raava I missed you" she clearly thought she lost connection with raava
@@nvcomics Yes, but then Raava corrected her and said she never left her.
Poor kuruk, when other avatar finds a peace in the spirit world,he's the only one who still roaming arround looking for his long lost wife.
Frankly an avatar that never dies, would be one that would constantly have to adjust to changing times, and one that would have to go through so much sadness and hardships seeing all the darkness and evil through the times and adding to memories, not to mention the losses of beloved friends. It would take away everything the Avatar is meant to represent and protect. They’d soon become an empty shell and probably lose faith in humanity faster than we do in reality. Their duty to protect would just become a soulless obligation to them. They may even find it harder to make friends because people wouldn’t see the Avatar as a fellow person.
So Yang Chen has a point. While yes that story may be interesting to explore on its own I think it’s better for the Avatar to be human.
It would be some kind of emotionless God if that happened
Kyoshi was the closest we've gotten to that. Except, the world didn't advance technologically that much during her lifetime. Imagine if Kyoshi was the Avatar at age 230 (or 483 had she was born 312 BG and just never died) in 171 AG instead of Korra, I think she would've been a different person. One who is very alienated by the new technology compared to the pre-Industrial time her world would've been for the majority of her life had Kyoshi been the Avatar at the time.
I'm glad that Aang didn't make the same mistake as korra
This show ended more than 13 years ago and yet we still get new amaizing content out of it. Thanks for making this video.
"why isnt the avatar all powerful spirit/being?"
korra: let me introduce you to raava
raava isnt all that powerful either
Remember when the avatar spirit was the embodiment of the planet and not some generic light spirit? Good times
@@coreywigent7693 that make no sense
Avatar is still powerful
korra isn’t canon
Even in death Kuruk still doesn't talk about his fight with spirits
Mostly because this was written way before that part of his story was written. It's kind of good they didn't do this episode because it would have cemented too much of the past Avatars life, thus making it really hard or even impossible to make a good prequel like the kyoshi novels are
@@androkguz I disagree because a lot is still left unsaid - plus, isn't "Relics" (another lost episode) still considered canon, even though it didn't air? I don't see why the same couldn't be true of this one. So, regardless, this is probably still considered canon, anyway.
@@ember-brandt Relics is considered canon, along with an entire collection of lost adventures that didn’t air either. The book is called “The Lost Adventures” and talks about stories in-between certain episodes in the seasons. Plus, while Aang was talking to his past lives in-between Season 2 and 3, Team Avatar have an entire comic dedicated to them talking about how they got the ship, found their father, and how they got the fire Nation gear. Awesome details like this make the series so much better.

Funny how kyoshi was fighting for people's rights created the Dai li and these just stumped on the peasants rights even more
Like how france went from a monarchy to a dictator ship with napoleon
This is a fine example of the Butterfly Effect.
A lot of people tend to think that what they do, and the intention, of something in their life-time will continue the same for another and the next.
You make something that's benevolent for 100 years, there's no guarantee it'll be something that causes terror and hardships for 300 after.
@@ElKabong3345and kinda funny how Butterfly Effect in Korra was never shown in a bad light and even if they do, they kinda make it like it's not her fault.
Also, she technically created peace within her own kingdom for centuries with a form that government that would become full of corruption and stagnancy over that same amount of time
This is government and politics 101. People are always excited to set up some fancy government agency or association to help certain people. After some time, these entities begin to become more interested in benefitting themselves than in whatever their original purpose was. They begin to hurt, rather than help, all while consuming time and resources that could be used for something else.
This is amazing, i've just started season 3 and it truly is the lost finale of season 2
Nice to see new people watch ATLA.
uhhh you’re in for a ride!🤚🏻 It’s gonna be dope

@@d.a.r.n1869 yeh its sad cause i know eventually im gonna watch it all ):
Season three… Oh, do you like Aangs haircut? lol
@@OandH123 yeh lol, plus they all look for as fire nation outfits
I can see why they didn’t actually make it. The whole episode is just kinda redundant and I think it over explains things. It’s better that we see Aang struggling after he wakes up rather than have it explained to the audience that his avatar state is damaged. No one went into the next season expecting Aang to just be fine, he literally died while in the avatar state, we don’t need it explained the audience already understands that Aang is in trouble. Also it makes no sense that Aang should think the avatar should be a spirit, the avatar MUST be both human and spirit because they are the bridge between the two worlds. If you take away the human part what would be the point of having an avatar? He was raised by the monks, he should understand the value of the avatar being human. Plus the shiny stone turning off the avatar state was just silly.
If they wanted to stick another episode in there it would be a better idea to focus on Katara struggling with her feelings over what went down in BSS and her relationship with Aang. The setting would be the wilderness far outside BSS the next day after the battle. Soka is paranoid, Appa is exhausted, Toph is angry, Aang is unconscious, the king is confused by the outside world.
Katara brought her friend back to life after a grueling fight and had a moment where she trusted and felt for Zuko. We should see her feel guilt and hurt that she trusted someone from the fire nation and he betrayed her trust. How about guilt over almost using her spirit water on someone who betrayed them (which would have definitely caused Aang to die). I would rely on flashbacks to Katara’s mother and her childhood memories of the fire nation juxtaposited with taking care of Aang and talking with Toph about how she could trust Iroh. Soka having an opposing story where he is just trying to figure out where to go and what they have to do next. The king learning he doesn’t really understand what the world outside the walls is like (explaining his desire to travel later). It would be a small episode, almost a bottle episode taking place just as this little camp and in Katara’s memories.
I really like your idea, that would be a very interesting episode indeed.
It wasn't ever meant to be an episode. It was an online story novel game that was released and is canon. This is what it was supposed to be.
Isn't there a comic kinda like this?
Yeah seeing the gaang as a emotional wreck after aangs death would’ve been rlly impactful
You should be a writer
this would be so cool, but it would be sort of useless since aang forgets it, so his character development in this episode is gone. it wouldn't really affect the story, so again, it is useless.

Never knew the Dai-li were created by Kiyoshi now that's the meaning of "You learn something new everyday"
I did know but idk where I read it or saw it or heard it. It’s been so long I’ve forgotten
I feel like they could still use this plot in a future Avatar series. Korra lost her connection to her past lives, but having those lives still be in the spirit world and having a new avatar go on a quest to reconnect with them would be great.
that would be nice but 1) The previous avatar spirits were destroyed, it would be a bit anticlimactic if they were still just walking around the spirit world. 2) You'd either have to go down all of the thousands of avatars or settle for a handful. 3) This plot doesn't make a lot of sense? Maybe with the spirit bs that Korra added to the story where Raava could somehow re-fuse with the previous avatars but it definitely doesn't make sense by TLA standards.
@@emielio1917 In no instance ever did it say the avatar spirits were destroyed. Korra lost her *connection* with them.

I'm actually really glad this episode never aired. It would have been a good (but not great) episode, but the cost of it would have been cementing too much of the story of past avatars. And not even in much of an interesting way.
Since, for instance, the story of Kuruk and Kyoshi wasn't written much, it allowed for the prequels to make a great story. Great story beats good episode
I disagree because a lot is still left unsaid - plus, isn't "Relics" (another lost episode) still considered canon, even though it didn't air? I don't see why the same couldn't be true of this one. So, regardless, this is probably still considered canon, anyway.
@@ember-brandt isn't relics one of the released comics?
@@ember-brandt it's true but for instance what is said here kind of contradicts the novels. Or at least it makes it *really* weird how Kuruk just won't mention his spirit hunting to Aang or won't mention his romance turned death to Kyoshi. Its also weird how Yangchen doesn't mention to Aang anything about how she screwed up Kuruk.
By having this conversations, you implicitly establish the tone of their lives and the most important thing that happened there.
I contrast this to how the rest of the story treats Kyoshi. They put her on a pedestal but don't really tell you why. You see only one day of her life which the characters dive into, not her. Thus it could have been that killing Chin was the most a Tuesday of all Tuesdays or it could have been her most epic battle. We really didn't know.
All in all, i want more stories about the past avatar. But not four stories in one episode. i want a series for each one
It wasn't ever meant to be an episode. It was an online story novel game that was released and is canon. This is what it was supposed to be. Relics isn’t a ”lost episode” either, it’s a comic from 2011 Free Comic Book Day, yes it’s canon.
I actually still wonder if Kuruk and his wife reunited
Imagine if this was a real episode and we had to live with the ‘it was all just a dream’ ending
I've been an Avatar fan since day one and I didn't know Kioshi founded the Dai Li.
What?! 🤯
You know, people blame Kyoushi for the Dai Li... but is it fair to blame her for a good group going bad??? That part was outside of her power... and frankly, she couldn't just get rid of the Earth King either because she didn't have a better answer at the time (we need to remember that Democracy didn't exist yet in the Avatar universe. And even if it did, you'd need to do a lot of work that she didn't know how to do).
We shouldn't pin the blame on Kyoshi. Her heart and judgement was in the right place. The Dai Li made Ba Sing Se safer for a time. However, motivations and the ambition of their existence was lost to time by Long Fang and later government which actually does happen in real life. Sometimes, organisations are formed or founded for good intentions, but overtime, they could lose their way and become corrupt.
And besides, why blame Kyoshi for training the Dai Li herself when she most likely trained the first Kyoshi Warriors herself, too? I mean, look at them. The Dai Li must have been Kyoshi's first line of next generation warriors, and the Kyoshi Warriors were her success. (I think this kinda makes sense. What do you think?)
@@eslm-studios2996 now I kinda wanna see a battle between Kyoshi Warriors and Dai Li agents, for Kyoshi Warriors to make the Dai Li pay for “tainting Kyoshi’s legacies” as they became corrupt after Kyoshi’s death and even once betrayed their kingdom for the enemy (Azula)
I would've liked for the past lives to be included more , but I feel they either took this out because they had the whole guru pathik episode , or because they didnt want to make the past lives too big of a factor because it would not have aang making decisions for himself
"oh my God he's out of control"...... "Oh...... I'll go get the Ruby"..... 😐🤣🤣
This would’ve been amazing and would’ve explained a lot about korra losing the avatar cycle in the sequel show. Like it’s nice to know that’s always existed and TLOK didn’t just pull that out of their asses to fuck over korra
You're a lovely channel mate keep up the good work greets from Belgium 🇧🇪
Why was this not an episode?!
My god, why the hell didn't they put this on the series?! It would have been insanely cool to have this fully animated!!
I know this was 5 months ago but the reason was probably due to production. They might've ran out of time, budget, or needed to put in a specific number of episodes in the season and this just couldn't be squeezed in.
"Avatar has no flaws"
*Watches video*: there is one flaw and that this wasnt in season 2
"Relics" being the lost episode of Book 1 is its other flaw. Imagine that being there instead of The Great Divide.

So ATLA has no flaw, I don't believe this is even canon, it was just a video game, and because it is not part of the show, the show doesn't have this flaw.

Avatar is one the best cartoons!
this is amazing!!
also i really wish someone would one day dig up the deleted Zutara scenes from The Southern Raiders episode lmao
The Avatar fans whining about Korra and even going as far as to blame her for losing her connections to her past lives should watch this- all Avatars are human and make mistakes. And for her losing Raava that was never Korra's fault and she had absolutely no idea that her uncle would pull such a dirty trick! Plus the consistent theme in LOK was Korra having a very naive concept of being the Avatar and lacking social skills due to having a very sheltered upbringing and the enemies she faced always an unfair advantage which gave her an extremely tough reality check and forced her to mature
And I never found her all that arrogant or selfish as she was always compassionate and wanted to help others she just lacked worldliness and experience
Korra sucks cry
I was never convinced that Aang died. If he did, then the next Avatar would have been born. I want to say he was in a coma.
Wait. Why wasn't this an episode?!!!!
Your channel will grow as more people become re-interested in this wonderful series.
Infinitely. ☯️.
This would have definitely been a cool episode
I definitely see where people are coming from when they say this episode would've been redundant, but you know where it wouldn't have been? Legend of Korra
maybe korra need to train more on her spirituality, what is inside her is a reborn and bigger raava, maybe there is a chance raava could dig deeper to access the past lives. Remember that korra said her connection was severed, not that her past lives are dead. It could be a tv special, then kyoshi could probably give korra some "relationship advice".
All Ozai needed to defeat Aang was a really shiny gemstone.
I like this. The avatars all seem to reside in the spirit world and if the next show will be about regaining connection, the avatar can simply roam around there until they find their past lives, little by little. The new avatar may have difficulty finding them because of the lost connection, but they're still there. They could try and go for Kuruk for example, because it's a simple assumption that he's somewhere near Koh's nest. I really do hope that Raava can somehow sense them anyway though but for some reason just didn't tell Korra.
Really great to learn about this! Thanks for uploading!
Thank you for this TheAvatarist.

Sage dude: haha funni rock
Roku's Avatar State (temporarily): aight imma head out
3:15 this is absolutely brilliant writing. How could an immortal truly understand the value of life? Any individuals life would just be a speck in the immortals existence
By losing permanently connection to all previous Avatars and making Avatar essentially just a vessel for a dualistic light-spirit, Korra-show really damaged this franchise irreparably.
I wish they'd just had her reconnect with them.
I don't think we're ever getting a reboot but if we did, then have the Earth Avatar reconnect with the past lives.
@@deoxal7947 it does seem like each avatar fixes the previous avatars mistakes so that would probably be what would happen
@@Sapherr Hm we didn't see what Roku fixed of Kyoshi did we? Kurruk was depressed so didn't do much leaving a lot for Kyoshi though.
What problems did Aang leave? Just seemed like new conflicts arose that had nothing to do with Aang. Zaheer did get out but unlike Roku he didn't let him be free because of an emotional connection.
Spitting facts !
@@deoxal7947 Kurruk actually did very much.... just not directly for the people. As far as my knowledge goes, he speant a great deal of his time looking after the spirit world as he had his opsession with his dead wife. So he didn't show himself much in public and was very secluded. I belive this was even mentioned in the show, though it could have also been one of the comics. And so the next Avatar had to deal more with the human conflicts and so on and so forth. So I would say they do actually fix their past lifes and kinda create challenges in one way or another for their next lol.
I always wondered why in book 3 they never talked about the avatar circle being broken
Doesn't this story imply that Korra could reconnect with past Avatars by finding them in the spirit world?
Possibly, maybe in that fanmade avatar kenji could make such things possible

It's rare to find new stuff on the avatar like this
Though the game is no longer available, this short is included in home media releases, and is likely available on UA-cam.
Holy shit I didn’t realize that comic was from one of the old website games. I played the shit out of that one tactical avatar game on there
so does this mean the next avatar can actually find his past life in the spirit world???
I think that may not be possible, or rather it shouldn’t. Rava basically had to be reborn and start a fresh Avatar cycle. However, even the writers know that the absolute worst story you can have for a future Avatar is to basically have a split personality or have Korra’s voice in their head, so they’ll find some way to bring them all back.
This almost made me cry, Grrat job the Avatarist
I remember watching this as a kid.
Why they not put this in the series :(
Had to give us poor kids who had to wait between S2 and S3 something to do
Cause it honestly wasn't that great... and it felt unneeded...
Wouldn't fit into the show, but was a good way to give us extra content. It was supposed to be released like this and wasn't a scrapped episode or anything. It was an online story novel game called "Escape From the Spirit World", it is still canon. Gave us useful information about the avatars.
I watched that lost episode and read everyone's lines in their voices to my brother and sister.
There is one phenomenally big plot hole in the series: It is asserted multiple times in _The Last Airbender_ and _The Legend of Korra_ both as relevant plot points that the Avatar will not reincarnate should he die in the Avatar state. How would they know this? Especially with certainty!? As if it had happened before. As if it had happened before multiple times! However, by the mere consequence, it cannot have happened even once.
So, it would be fine if it were presented as a likely and plausible risk that no Avatar should take lightly.
This scene also would explain a connection with the avatars Aang talks on the turtlelion. It would seem random at first, so, having a previous talk seems nice
Nick says its cannon yet Yang Chen still introduces herself to Aang in season 3.
3:32 except that's not true since he contacts his past lives in season 3 one last time before going to face the Fire Lord. What they should've had Yang Chan say instead is: "you will not be able to contact your past lives as frequently as before. Your connection has been damaged"
This means Korea should be able to reconnect with her past lives too as spirits in the spirit world
Pretty sure she meant the Avatar State not the Avatars themselves.
Thanks for uploading
I knew of the game but didn't think much of it, i was a kid. Time to play it
How did Aang speak with any of his past lives in book 3 if he severed all connection with them?
I'd love to see this on the series
Some really interesting avatar lore reduced to a dead web browser game. At least it is now preserved
The dai li is Kyoshi's failed fangirl club
This makes a lot of sense. Roku says in Season 2 that if you die during the Avatar state, you'll break the Avatar cycle completely. Then Aang tells Katara at the beginning of Season 3 that she didn't just heal him, she brought him back, he was gone. It seems like they were going to set up that Aang couldn't connect with the Avatar state because he 'died', but then they just blamed it on a blocked chakra and dropped this whole subplot until Legend of Korra.
Me at the start: "Oh, cool. Some concepts that were cut out of the show. That's always interesting!"
Me at the end: "Wait, THIS IS CANON?!"
This sounds like it would’ve been an amazing episode!!!
Wait what? How did you get that story?
Update : okay I watched the whole video makes sense
The funny thing about the avatar state is that if it's a collection of all the skills and experiences of the avatar's past lives then it can only get stronger, resulting in avatars millions of generations ahead being overpowered superbeings in the avatar state.
unless of course there's a metaphorical level cap
Wait if avatar ang lost his connection to past avatars but still korra was able to connect with them after those events maybe the next avatar will be able to do the sane and only korra lost the connection just like in angs case
I love this kind of content.

@@jamilmoscoso6776 he wasn't irresponsible at all. Gotta read the Kyoshi novels.
@@jamilmoscoso6776 every action of the avatar have consequence to the next one, Kuruk inherits a consequence that made his life quite tragic.
It isn't entirely fair to solely blame Yang Chen either. She had to faith in humanity and weighed much of her decisions in that regard. If she had even an inkling that her actions would lead to Kuruk's early death and lost of reputation along with what that fallout had caused Kyoshi. Every avatar has made mistakes, and those mistakes end up being the responsibility of the Avatar afterwards.
The only reason why this isn't aired is because Aang doesn't remember what happened during his coma. So would be fruitless to have such episode if it didn't align with the narrative.
