I sometimes fail to remember that I share a planet with these creatures, these alien-like life forms that go beyond anything I could've portrayed as extraordinary. I'm at a loss of words to describe how surreal it feels that these creatures exist, today, right here.

I think the most interesting part is that theyre just as native to earth as we are if not more. If they had the capacity to think like us they would probably be thinking the exact same thing

Siphonophores are one of my favourite creatures. They represent different societies (colony of smaller things serving their purpose) in one single being. One is good for propulsion, one is good for eating, defence, reproduction, sensing, and so on. They are basically personalities in living form.

There is a siphonphore in your vents watching and waiting. Zooids always poised, popping open and closed desperate for water that doesnt exist. Late at night, when everything is still, they float through your home, ghostly and ethereal. Remember waking up with those strange burning scars last summer? Like a million burning strings wrapped around any skin exposed? The doctors said they couldn't identify the marks, but really they just couldn't understand how a jellyfish could have stung you in your home at night.
They long to be held. They miss their home. They didnt know. They didnt know they would hurt you.
They haven't realised their home no longer exists
