i will forever be impressed about how people can just recognize a note, name it, and play it instantly, really impressive
I thought I was the only one who peeped how he figured it out so quickly very impressive!!

no, seriously. first your ears learn what a note is supposed to sound like, then you can call it on hearing it, then your muscle memory kinda learns what thing makes that note and so on.
i´m somewhere around know what a note is supposed to sound like, but still having to search for it a short while.
100% agree. He played the melody at the end, and I ... I felt it.
I wish I could do that.
this song should be played around 12am to morning to boost the population 😂
boosting the population is bad tho lol
This is the most baby making song I've ever heard....
getting back population caused by cvd u mean? 🤣
No please we are overpopulated Rn
lot of pregnancy :D
This song is a complete masterpiece. Instant classic.
Undisputed
It really is ❤️🙌🏾
Spans the generations and an absolutely amazing production.
The song could hop in a time machine and still be an instant classic. Forward or backwards.
@@seymourglass26 wow... well said
9-10 months from now A LOT of babies will be born because of this song.
Yes!!!!
hhahahaa !!
A sonic boom!
Absolutely 😂😂
You are the first white guy on UA-cam to even acknowledge Anderson Paak. Great job being a professional and also doing some homework on the artist involved in the project that you are reviewing.....keep up the good work
I stopped counting the amount of channels (even musicians) who didn't bother to look up Anderson and didn't even acknowledge him as if this isn't supposed to be a duo
I was really starting to get upset by these reaction videos. I understand if you are not familiar with him but do not act like he not there.
You can say that again. He is a professional. Dude knows his music. Watched many reaction videos by so many who fail to acknowledge Anderson Paak even though he is literally the first voice you hear.. 😂.
The world's busiest music nerd Anthony Fantano would like a word with you. Also, thousands of people have seen him live. I saw him at Roots Fest in Philadelphia years ago and it was a life-changing performance. Guy doesn't just make music, he leads a great band, too.

Bruno storytelling on how her Versace got on the floor.
Yep
I said the same thing... I'm like leave the door open so this Versace can hit the floor🤷🏾 🤣🤣🤣
Actually this line in “Versace on the floor” :
“So baby let's just turn down the lights
And close the door” is like saying “oh , NOW you can close the door after it was left open”😁 haha
Hahahaha
And then had fun Straight Up and Down😍
It's like Jackson 5 and the delfonics had a baby. Straight heaven 😊
Lololol!!! Yes
That's what I thought as well. Perfect analogy. J5 ballad like "Never Can Say Goodbye," Delfonics "Didn't I Blow You Mind."
@ItzMeNooby This song is chock full of Easter eggs like that...too many to list in a comment lest this turn into a thesis paper.
No bull, along with The Chi-Lites and Stylistics creating a baby beside them lol
Yes, there's more than a little Thom Bell/Linda Creed in there. All that's missing are the French horns, lol.
Anderson Paak's voice sounds like the taste of fresh sprite
lmao
Sounds similar to Jame Brown
😂
Dang, thanks for ur help on describe A.P's voice. I was stuck to find a word for how fantastic his voice is 😂
Yessssss 🙌🏽👏🏽👏🏽 spot on 😂
I hope silk sonic changes music today to return to a era where music was truly music
unfortunately it's not an extremely massive hit
@@vb8428 I mean on today’s standards yeah your right, but I haven’t heard one person say they don’t like the song or the sound..cause that sound does something to everyone
@@trefadez The grammy reception was lukewarm too
music is truly music lmao fym
Absolutely
There’s a good reason why people went crazy over this song; unlike most modern pop songs, this has a lot of “musicality” to it. There’s complex rhythms, a fantastic Motown-esque bassline, key changes, interesting chord progressions, textural variations, etc.
so Talent? cus these guys have tons of it
And ooooh those harmonies!❤️
But the main reason why it got so popular and got a top 10 in the charts was because they still managed to make it sound modern and relevant to today’s music even with the 70s vibes and unique chords, with the lyrics and singing style. This song was so cleverly composed and recorded, Bruno Mars knows how to make a hit while still playing with his favourite styles of music
And humor! Such a badass groove and they got me laughing too!
Right on, brutha!
“smooth like a newborn”
Bruno ends beard fashion right there🪒

The brought back the fade out! I miss the fade out so much.
big facts!!!
This is how you fade with leading vocals still on.. CLassic!
@@sanmarinojr I know that's right. Classic, babymaking ish.

I have to comment again. Nothing makes me happier than to see this dude randomly and instinctively just JUMP IN and figure out the music AS he's listening to it, IMMEDIATELY adding things that he's hearing in his own head that match SO perfectly with the song. its CRAZY. Great job man.
Omg I was like yaaas that is cool I had to play back on that
There were Covid Babies, now you got Silk Sonic babies!
"The groove starts in your body." So true.
Anderson Paak's live performance on Tiny Desk is one of THE BEST performances of that whole channel and his in general. Such an amazing artist.
Tiny Desk is great. Another two of my favs are St. Paul & The Broken Bones and Tank & The Bangaas.
Yeah. Guy can write and perform, but he also leads a band (The Free Nationals) when almost nobody but the Roots or the Dap Kings (with Amy Winehouse and Sharon Jones, both RIP) have gotten traction in this lane. It's a shame, but they're fixing the problem one song at a time.
It just so happens to be the most viewed Tiny Desk.
YES!!!! I couldn’t agree more with you Zach!
I haven't heard a song that gets you moving as much as this one, in sooo long
Maybe it’ll spark a new revolution

Truth!
This song is for people who *feel music*
Album of the Year. It’s Grammy time. But more importantly such a heartfelt, soulful piece of art. A combination of fun trolling, mad respect to the old school and flat out ridiculous musical talent all wrapped into a gift for all of us. I’m speechless. 🧡
Retro Old School🎧🎤 took a Soul Train🚂 to Mars ☄️
Anderson .Paak is so underrated! He’s one of the most talented artists we’ve got right now
It reminds me of that one bruce lee quote. He didn't practice a bunch of instruments, he practices on only one and mastered it.
"Soulful Seduction" is a good name.
"The whole recording feels like I'm wrapped in a warm blanket.... Soul Seduction" Brilliant Name... Well Done!!! Everything you said, couldn't of said it better myself. You're a professional and I just love people like yourself, discussing the musicality of this fabulous tune. I'm a 70's child so this sound just brings it all back with great memories of a decade I loved for music... BRING THIS SOUND BACK!!!
Yessssss!
Great. Im 84 yo and 6ft tall and in love with Bruno Mars!!!
Apparently according to a Bruno interview... BOOTSY COLLINS named it "Silk Sonic"
It makes me so sad to never see Paak get his flowers in the videos discussing this song. Thanks for highlighting his performance as well!
Nice to hear someone acknowledge how hilarious the song is. They clearly had a ton of fun making this song. Can't wait for the album
They have the same sense of humor. They can make you laugh AND turn you on at the same time.☺️
Shamonn…
Paak and Bruno are leaving the door open for 70's music again. What a great talent they are!!
Only thing I wish is that they recorded these songs without a click track. This one is at 74bpm. I could feel that something was missing and didn't feel as good as it could and lo and behold - it was definitely recorded with a click. These musicians are so stellar that they absolutely do not need a click track and the music would ebb, flow and breath more and just overall groove harder if they just went free ballin! IMHO
Hip hop is 40+ years old and is tired.
The call went out to bring back the 70s and Bruno Mars delivered.
One door closed and another door opened.
I don’t think Hip Hop is tired, it would be fine if it stayed consistent with the 92-2006 era. The 70’s is timeless.
Anderson has been infusing his music with 70s funk for a while now. The collaboration is well suited but it's def a grouping of musical equals who share a great appreciation of the classics
@@brandonpryormusic u must be sleeping under a rock. Hip hop is in every genre of today's music.

Thank you for explaining why I had a weird reaction to this song. My reaction was very visceral- if that is the correct term. I had a physical and emotional reaction. I literally listened about 25 times nonstop after the first listen.
This song puts me in a mood and the groove is real. Thanks again!
hhahahaha !! it was similar with me NB / Vienna
Perfect is the word. It's a perfect song.
also they pay homage and give the GOAT Sir Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 love : "SHA MON" !
Finally found a comment about this 👏🏽
Just came across your channel by accident, and was so pleasantly surprised. As a retired Jazz drummer who's played with some jazz greats, Herb Ellis, Harry "Sweets" Edison & Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Alan Zavod, and Pete Condoli, I had almost given up on music, until I heard Bruno Mars. You, as a music teacher, are such a breath of fresh air to keep the hope of music alive and are to be commended for it. I've told several of my friends who know of my background, that as far as I was concerned, music as we know it, is dead. Hearing Bruno Mars, gave me hope that someone is still capable of producing a "Melody" and a "Bridge", and making a song with a melody that will stand the test of time. I think Bruno Mar's musical compositions will be just as relevant 20 years from now, as they are today when the rest of the crap is long forgotten. My last comment is, you should also talk about how Bruno Mars and his ensemble use "Dynamics" in creating the overall effect of the melody and its effect on the song. Also, not only is the melody a gas, but the rhythm is cookin.
Whew! Music Teacher here. Finally someone who gets it. I need this song on headphones or surround sound. The way it just envelopes you. 🤗 ugh. Love.
David, as a keyboardist and song writer, this is the best reaction I've seen on this simply outstanding song. Man, you had me laughing, shaking my head in agreement, and when you said Soulful Seduction, I just lost it! Keep doing what you're doing. Peace, bro!!!
The amazing part to me is how this guy just starts playing along with the song..lol..being able to know the keys and play automatically is crazy talent
Finely i found one quality reaction to this masterpiece.
If the song "Versace on the floor" had a child .. I think "Leave the door open" is
This was the invite that came before the Versace hit the floor.
@@dmw1906 Leave the door open is a prequel? Awesome!

As a kid, if my piano teacher gave me a tutorial like this before learning a Chopin or Bach piece, I would’ve been more interested haha thank you for this, sir! Great video!! New sub!!
That’s why so many students quit, they are not taught any music that is relevant to them in their life.
@@MusicShed classical music is still great! I think learning all varieties of music is important for appreciating music as a whole, especially when trend-setters and new genres are derived from mixes or combinations of previous ones.
11. Yep. Song is Perfection. No words. Thank you for your words.
4:53 I HAD to smash "Subscribe" as you began breaking down the chord progression. It was like I was transported back to my music theory classes...except you explain things better! Wow!
Bruno Mars is such a perfectionist! That was an 11 performance and analysis. The la la la in the second half reminded me a little of Stevie Wonder’s “My Cherie Amour.” Great modulations.
Perfectionist! Yes. I believe they started this while on tour in 2018. Finished it up during Covid So .. do the math.
I wish more people had caught and commented on that. I love that little call back to Stevie Wonder
And the whoo whoo whoo was homage to Jefferey Osborne (not sure people caught that)
Very clever that the ending combined the first few bars of the bridge and the ending of the chorus so they can include some ad libs and finishing flourishes right into the fade out. They pulled in every trick from 70s R&B ballads and they all worked.
When you break out and just start playing on the piano, I can tell you just love music and just wanna jam! Love to see it!
Your are amazing. The way you just randomly find the keys, start playing on the spot with the music. Pure talent
so grateful to see a professional musician properly appreciate and talk about the arrangement and theory behind it. This video deserves way more attention keep it up
This is old school Motown soul. Who agrees? Absolute magic
Motown was just a part of it. I kinda think we just took it for granted because it was all around us. Real soul music abounded - replaced by disco🕺.Oh well.
I think that the reason that Bruno and Anderson have such a melodic synchronicity is because they are first and foremost MUSICIANS, then singers, dancers, songwriters, and producers. Hats off for their unashamed seduction through their music...lthix whole album is an instant classic! 🎼🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶
I love the facts that slide in!
You are like the Bill Nye of music education! Instant sub!
This song is a perfect 10/10
Anderson Paak is amazing! If you haven’t seen his NPR music..it’s amazing! The way he can play the drums and sing.
I’ve seen and reacted but it got blocked cause NPR blocks all
I love how in every musician reaction video the reviewers end up either singing or playing
Refreshing someone knowledgeable reacting to the music
I love listening to intelligent, & knowledgeable people ✨
Finally, somebody reacting actually understanding how the key changes affect the musicality and how the song continuously is vibrant bc of this!! Good Job pal
Dang. First off this song is a masterpiece, I agree this should be Song of the Year.
Your breakdown of the song + all those notes about the artists, your love for awesome Musicality really shows. I am definitely subscribing. One of the best reacts I've seen.
Just music artistry at its finest.
can we just appreciate that he went so much in depth about the song that he made a 15 min reaction vid on a 4 min song
No 808, no auto tune. I like it...okay....I love it. Shout out to The Stylistics, without who this music wouldn't exist.
You NEED to see the live performance if you haven't yet. It's perfection
You did a fantastic job of isolating the keys, chords, and harmonies. You really know your stuff. *Subscribed*
Excellent musical analysis. I fell in love with this song as soon as I heard it, and the love affair has only deepened since. Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars have created a modern masterpiece that borrows only the best from the past. The Something else about this song struck me - it’s a post me too movement love song. So many love songs are disempowering and downright desperate “I’ll die without you...”
“Leave the Door Open” is lush, playful, and direct but leaves the ball in the woman’s court. He wants her, adores her, loves her but what he wants is secondary to what she wants and chooses.
Amen! I’m recording a solo keyboard 🎹 version of it tomorrow!
Yeah. nicely said. that how its supposed ro be always.

I'm not in the music business, just a lover of all kinds of music, especially Rockabilly, Jump Blues, and Roots. I would describe this song as RICH. It's rich, smooth, satisfying and deep. Think dark chocolate mousse.
This is more the Philly Soul Sound of Gamble, Huff, and Thom Bell. Love your reaction. Great advice for today's musicians. Im old school. I'm So overwhelmed with Anderson and Bruno. What an honor to the 70s greats

One of the best reaction reviews I have seen. You explained so well, why those Motown hits are STILL so much in rotation today, and are sampled sooooo much. That formula works! The background vocals and harmony is always a way to add musicality, and layer to a song. These varied layers, and musical variations in keys, all adds to those layers. Just a FANTASTIC song, and collaboration!! Whew!! I just love this song!

It’s real Chicken Little, it’s real!
I listen to more jazz and metal and holy shit Bruno Mars knows how to write complex but simple music which is actually a pleasure to hear.
Your analysis is great. There’s a lot more detail in terms of influences, arrangement, and musical theory all in one video than many more famous UA-camrs.

Still listening in 2024!
When the change moved from C to Eb scale (Bruno's part)...I felt that reminded me of the same change during the pre-chorus in the song "If you don't know me by now" by Harold Melvin.
Just pure talent, a masterpiece to bless us in this chaotic time. Who doesn't get eargasm listening to this song ?
This song is a perfect example of chord progression and breaks downs it sound so good
