Hi, Enjoyed your pros and cons on Bellingham. I live in Vancouver, BC and love visiting your town. My nephew lives in Sudden Valley which I find has a great feel and of course golfing. I am a big fan Bellingham overall.
CONS: Increasing traffic, high cost of living, grey and rainy eight months out of the year, expensive and not very good restaurants, non-caring college-age poor service at most businesses, too much focus on beer, people generally not friendly, poor grocery store selections, not addressing homeless or crime problems, poor civil planning by local government. PRO: Pretty in places. This from a 40-year Bhammer who has travelled all over the country.
We DO have excessive traffic!Granted, nothing like Seattle. But as a pedestrian, each day that I am not roadkill is a victory.Disability makes me not part of the car/bike culture.Public transportation limited. If you are downtown, adequate.
Here's a beef from a 37-year Hamster. Civil planning has actually restricted access to downtown not enhanced it. Bike lanes on Chestnut and Holly are the most horrendous ideas I have seen in civic planning. Simply bad ideas. Alabama bike lane a close second in bad ideas.
Could i make it here on a bachelor's degree who averages out at about $30 an hour? Im from tacoma but have been trapped in Kansas for 31 years. I F***ing HATE Kansas!

I'm sure you could! Cost of living is higher, so be aware of that. Let me know if you want to chat more about it.
Do you like having a roommate? Trying to have your own place in Bellingham at $30? That's a tight budget.
