Nice to see you guys messing around with gear, it's obvious you've been really good friends for a long-ass time. Also, what a mad palette of tones. More pls!
If there's one subtle thing I love about Toska, it's the fact that you guys do some sections where you utilise the guitar and bass as synths running through those sick as hell fuzzes etc.
I have actually utilized this pedal with my 5 string sterling and 4 string Ibanez soundgear bass in creation of ambient music. Once you start thinking of it as a composing tool, this pedal really comes alive to create some truly unique sounds. Layering multiple bass tracks both through the sy-1 and through a variety of other effects tools (as well as traditional tones) has allowed me to take the bass outside the framework of traditional song structure and established bass utilization. Thanks for sharing the detailed demo.
Dude!!! This was one of the most fun videos I've seen in a while. Could tell you guys were having a blast. Some parts made me laugh by the looks you guys were giving each other. Lol
whoah! it's polyphonic. i seem to recall the syb wasn't. if you tried playing 2 notes at the same time, it would glitch which wasn't all that bad. just wish i had more time to play with it coz i just borrowed that pedal to try it out.
I'll admit this is greedy of this as a subscriber even, but I can't help but want a video of you two gentleman having a jam with this pedal in your signal chain.
Rabea, please make a video about your process of making youtube videos and what you use explaining why. ps. big fan of your music. Please come play in India
I came here for the Synth, but that Ray is amazing! Wonder did they swap the neck for maple one, cause I can't remember of that combination on the Special? 10:02 Clean signal
Too bad almost all these demos of the SY-1 has a lot of distorsion. I'd like to hear what the more vintage mini moog possibilities are. Distorsion is ok in some circumstances but adding a lot of dirt and power is not hard and is something easy adaptable for everyones taste... but the old style bass synth sound is often what is hardest to come up with in a functional way. Adding distorsion (Darkglass etc) is not hard once you know what the bottomline sounds of the pedal are. Really hard to fin a good bass demo of this pedal out there.
Can't think of it as a tool for establishing your bass tone. Think of it as a tool that allows you to use your bass as a synthesizer. Now, can you can do this while running your regular bass tone out the send plug?
Can anyone help explain the difference between dry and wet? My assumption is that it's effectively the difference between putting the pedal first vs last, but I'd love it if someone could explain it better. Thanks.
Dry is naked signal, wet is the effected signal. Bass players have to be careful because distortions, compressors, and other effects they use can actually lessen the amount of bottom end, so a wet/dry blend can be helpful to mix unaffected bass in to keep that rumble happening
Too bad this pedal is out of stock in Europe(Andertons, Thomann, Woodbrass...) Be patient folks if you ordered one like I did...back in September (still waiting).
I just started using mine, this last weekend. Some of it reminds me of all the bad music from movies of the 1980's..Bladerunner, in particular. Vangelis. lol! Overall, a great pedal for inspiration. I love the Pad setting.
Couldn't agree more about the decay being too fuzzy and the end of notes falling apart, happens on the sy300 too...... Cmon boss I THINK you guys can hear something that needs a noise gate circuit, no? Lol
Ok,..the “Elephant in the Room”...comment,...just how much actually in a “Band” context will a Bassist get to use much of these sounds huh?...don’t think much in the real world unless he’s the Band Leader or MD‼️✨🎸🤨(that’s Music Director) or one can get a chance to do some arrangements to feature it❗️😒👌🏾Love this pedal tho’...🤘🏾😁that said,..I most likely will get one along with the Source Audio C4 due to my purpose of Live Looping ✨🎸🎶🎛👍🏾😉
I appreciate Boss's attempt to jam so much synthesis into a small compact foot pedal, but without the ability to save presets this isn't very practical for live use. Big oversight, IMO.
Yeah cool, In my hands it's not inspiring enough. (not that i've played one) in someone elses though it might be amazing. Just doesn't sound great to me.
To be honest , every conversation about great bass players should include Dave. Fantastic player by any measure!
I’ve been using one on acoustic guitar at open mics. Raised a few eyebrows.
They're just not ready for it yet... But their kids are gonna love it
Please do more videos with Dave.

Had to stop the video that bass intro is sick.🤘🤘
If there's one subtle thing I love about Toska, it's the fact that you guys do some sections where you utilise the guitar and bass as synths running through those sick as hell fuzzes etc.
Best to think of the SY-1 as an instrument in its own right. Cool pedal.

Lovin the intro evolution from "...dave" to "...*nods*"
That was awesome!
Another really cool, informative and brilliant vid. Thanks for taking the time to put this one together.

The Dave meme getting so deep he doesn't even need to say it anymore lol
7:33 the "Casio keyboard MIDI horns" kinda reminds me of an Octavia too.
ONE of the best BOSS SY-1 pedal reviews maaaahn

Dave = Auto Thumbs Up
Also, when he said "filthy", Bea and I made the same stank face. Awwwwwesome!
The internet needs more Dave...
I want to play bass now ,:) so good
great to see dave he such great bass player, I love his approach to the instrument
11:45 reminded me of Buckethead, for some reason...
12:04 Duke Nukem 3D? :D
I want that stingray! Dave is a beast!
There are some sounds that reach out and grab you. Good idea getting Dave to try bass through it.
I'll admit this is greedy of this as a subscriber even, but I can't help but want a video of you two gentleman having a jam with this pedal in your signal chain.

Great Vid, Great Dave bit of synth what more could you want🤘
Dave. I am in love with that Stingray.
I've got a Stingray Special 5H. They are fucking amazing.
If you get one, the EB Cobalt Strings work so well with the stainless steel frets.
If you guys do this again, it would be great if the action of the expression pedal could be shown too.
1:22 "If"? *"IF"???* Quite the understatement you got there... :P
So Good !! Thank You Dave and Bea , I am a bass player building a bass pedal board .......
Dave is awesome
Sho I laughed when you switched to 'organ type 2' 😂 great bass demo. Thanks guys. I'm keen to buy one now
Dave.

Came here to say this… not really a true demo imo with all that distortion
Me: I want that bass!
...checking the price...
Me: I don't want that bass!
Wow Bea your American accent isn't half bad! Let's hear more of that lol
That sounds HUGE!
18:07 This entire section is out of Mario 64
I've always thought the filters they use on these kinds of pedals are farrrr too resonant for my taste
Hey guys, great video by the way! Question, where would you put this in your effects chain?
Hey I'm watching it on a saturday. Don't tell me what time it is!
What would be a great expression pedal for it?
Please do the ReMix... Sounds to be had 🙌😊
awesome

Add a Boss LS-2 and you can run both together, the SY1 and your clean Bass tone.
Only these guys would make me watch video about bass gear \m/
Just a question, what bass line was the first Dave played on the organ setting? It sounds familiar but i can’t quite figure it out
If you hold the switch it does a slow gear thing.
What is the order? Bass, Sy1, and then the rest? Or does the bass come in with distortion to the SY1?
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Dave
Do you have to use the official Boss power adaptor for this?
No you can use most PSU’s with this
@@RabeaMassaad Cheers bro..Just ordered..🤘
is he using an expression pedal?
They should call that the Black Sabbath e5150 @ the 11:00 mark.
25:45 that sounds wet for some reason and Rabea didn't seem to fond of it 😂😂😂
perfect for NIN stuff Head Like a Hole comes to mind..

All the way dry is just the bass sound all the way wet is the effect
@@justincollins2680 nice one, thanks man

11 bells with a fretless please!
DAVE!

Who is Dave? Seems very cool, sorry I dont get out much
"Next up.. Bell." *[ADULTS GIGGLING]*

Hi Dave!
hope you're getting sleep mate @Rabea cheers!
Now gives me some ideas :)
20:20 incredible tone. Anyone debating the usability of this, damn, just listen to that haha
He's DEFINITELY Right As Per the X-pedal
Sounds great but wanted to hear a bit of the sounds without gain
That is a crazy pedal!
anyone Know where to get this bass ?... I mean the same colour with the same fretboard and with Black pickguard… Bassicly the same as in this video :D
I keep hearing audioslave sounds.
Maybe play something different from the minor pentatonic?
No
Great to see 2 of the 3 truly talented Dorje players f*ing about with this pedal.

Reminds me alot of flea from. Red Hot Chili Peppers when he does his base use
That pedal is too sensitive to operate via finger control on "the go"
if you live by a guitar shop that stocks acid. #RogerWaters

You can get some bass wah type sounds that I dig.
But overall. I wish I'd a saved the $200
Why were the 200 bucks not worth the pedal? Is tracking bad or don’t you need the pedal?
Enjoyable matey vid but musically useless sounds from that pedal imo.
Totally disagree. Incredible sounds that could be used in many many ways.
Poor tracking at 0:20 or what? Sounded like SY-1 threw in the towel for a hot second.
A horrible thing. Totally useless.
(ordered)
Yeah cool, In my hands it's not inspiring enough. (not that i've played one) in someone elses though it might be amazing. Just doesn't sound great to me.
Tun off the distortion !!!!!!
Lol to rockers trying to use a bass synth pedal.....
This pedal actually sucks man, Zero feel. Totally digital robot.
EHX bass synth pedal is way better than this.
Really?I heard the latency is an issue on it
