Whenever I’m having a particularly bad day, I stop and ask myself “what self care things I’ve done for myself”. Usually it’s none, and I decide to take a quick walk around the block or sit with a cup of coffee and “reset” myself. It really helps. I LOVE the idea of “protecting the asset”.
This was so helpful and encouraging! I definitely think I abandoned myself for the first four weeks of my baby’s life. I am 6 weeks post partum and I just realized like last week that I had created all these routines with the baby and absolutely none of them included taking care of myself in pretty much any way. Sure I would find time to brush my teeth at some point in the day but it didn’t feel like i was prioritizing even 15 minutes in the morning to make sure i could shower, get dressed , and grab a granola bar at least. I am now changing the way I view my routines for the baby and making them into “our” routines that prioritize “our” needs and we do them all together. It’s still hard as a single mom caring for a newborn and myself but I realized I can’t abandon myself anymore and expect to be able to show up for those I love. Thanks again for this video !
I use 1000 reminders on my phone. I make lists. I practice saying no. I make things I. The crockpot. I have simplified our dinners. I’m simplifying our possessions so they take less time to sort out. Thank you for your videos.
I love all of this and I appreciate what you said about seasons. My daughter as i said before has a rare developmental disorder, she is non-verbal and cannot walk right now. She is 5 years old and it is such a struggle at times because I know she understands so much but we don't know what she needs all the time, it is a guessing game. Then you add in fighting insurance and other things for what she needs. Plus I have 3 other children who I homeschool and need me too. Along with running a business and personal brand. It is Seriously HARD. Literally just wiped out an entire week from overwhelm and crying from being drained and sad about our situation. (which I know comes and goes. can't help it.) But a big tip I have to remind myself is to give myself grace to just be. whatever that looks like and not apologize for things not being done. We only have so much capacity. Thank you for saying all of this. I feel seen every time I watch your videos.
So much grace for you. I hope you take a deep breath and know how blessed your children are to have a mom who teaches them so diligently and loves them so fiercely.
Regional Center is another avenue that you can explore to address and delays due to a developmental disorder . They can provide evaluations to address needs for services once diagnosis is obtained. If your child qualifies then services can be provided. Wishing you strength during this time.
"I had abandoned myself for years." That made me cry when I heard you say that...that is a truth that I am going to need to sit with and commit to making some changes. Thank you so much for sharing this video.
Lydia, I don't think I've ever commented on your videos but today is apparently the day 😂 I absolutely love your energy and enthusiasm, and the honesty and rawness of the videos that you are so very kind to share with us. So thank you 🙏🏼 wishing you and your family all the very best. Greetings from the UK. Oh , and I've 100s daily remainders on my phone too x
Hi Lydia, I love this video. I love that “No” is a full sentence. If you want to say, “No thank you” that works too. The people who matter won’t mind and the ones who do, don’t matter. Boundaries are one of the best things we as mothers can exercise for our children, and showing them rather than telling them is best. I want my children to know what healthy boundaries look like and not be afraid to set them. You’re doing awesome!!! Thank you ✌🏽💕😊
This is so good. I love every bit of it. I do grace planning also, focus on the week and overall items or appointments between client work, homeschooling, my 5 year old’s therapies or working with her ( she cannot walk or talk. A lot of carrying around. I also decided to focus more on me and I dedicate Mondays as my planning and get myself together days. I protect that as much as possible. And I make a space in the house that’s my “she-shed” and home office. This has been critical for my sanity.
You crack me up, and I am in the same boat about saying "no." I know I get to, but I still feel awkward or guilty. I use Alexa to remind me, since I sometimes forget to look at/charge my phone.
Hi Lydia. I work full time and on the weekends my list is never ending trying to catch up and get stuff done! I’ve been trying to clean and organize my pantry for weeks and just can’t get to it! I think this weekend will be the time to do it without fail! Love your videos.
Wow such an great video. So much advice. Every point is so great. I'm retired now but would have loved to have heard this years ago. Going to watch it a few more times to catch everything again and forward it to my daughters
This was a great video, such helpful tips for making a busy life a bit smoother. I found a few things that I'll be implementing in my weekly routine. 😊
Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been... ever, for any reason whatsoever...
@TheRealLydiaSenn Sometimes I start a sentence and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope i find it along the way like an improve conversation..an improversation.
Lately I had some procrastination situation at work. I work from home but I am fully employed by a company. And I have got a huge task to do, for which was approved 70h to be done. I was scared to even start it because it seemed like something I could not start dealing with. And then I just sat down, gave myself 4 uninterrupted hours to just start activity. And in that 4 hours I did at least 60% of the complete task. I am expert in that field. I know how to do it. Sometimes I just need to push myself to start. And I need to find time to work uninterrupted. Note: I have a toddler who goes to childcare.
Love this! lol and my daughter draws in my stuff too even my work presentation once hahaha 😂 I felt like Gru on despicable me lol 😂 my coworkers laughed so hard so it was one of those hilarious moments 😅 Great video thank you for your videos they are so refreshing ❤
I think most moms abandon themselves during those years of heavy parenting and child rearing. I raised kids for 31 years and I've finally given myself permission to do some things I want to do. I love the phrase "protecting the asset". ❤
Leave me your best tips!

I'm really proud of you.
Like Kenny Riders said, you got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away, know when to run.

Not 30 seconds ago did I look at my planner and think "I need a lydia senn moment" then I refreshed my feed and there you were!!! ❤
Oh my goodness. You’re my favorite 🤩

It's so hard.
I’ve been there for so long. You don’t realize it is happening because you just go in mom mode and get things done.

You said it perfectly!!! You don't need their approval !!!
I have several alarms set for when I need to do certain tasks to help get me out the door for work!

I love that you made a dedicated space for yourself. ❤️
Thanks for sharing! I love protect the asset. Needed to hear that it's not vain and just taking a moment to put myself together.
Thank you. I like this kind of videos about time management. It remember me that i can't do every thing and i have to prioritize.
You crack me up, and I am in the same boat about saying "no." I know I get to, but I still feel awkward or guilty. I use Alexa to remind me, since I sometimes forget to look at/charge my phone.
I tell Alexa where I put things so she can remind me later.

Glad it was helpful!
I do use meal delivery services when I am feeling decision fatigue on what to make for dinners. I can pause them when I need to save money.
So helpful.
“Catch and release”. - dang you’re good!!!!
I've heard so many different people say this, so I can't take credit. But it's for sure eye opening.
You said it politely and you said it directly. 🎉. I struggle with “no” too.
Why is it so hard?
@@TheRealLydiaSenn because everything conditions us to be agreeable? 🤷♀️ good for you for protecting the asset. 💖

I am at my most happy when snuggling a newborn.
@@TheRealLydiaSenn me too! The squishy beautiful tinyness puts the whole world in perspective.😊
