In India skin bleaching is sadly still a big business. The most well known brand is called "Fair and Lovely" and they hve billboards and commercials that overtly imply that if you use the product and lighten your skin then your life will improve. It is so mainstream and reinforced in the culture there that I have been offered skin bleaching everytime I went to a salon. And I'm a pale ass white girl about 3 shades above paper. It breaks my heart and infuriates me to see beautiful women of all shades being told they should ruin their beauty and health by bleaching their skin.
@@braeliosburn3234 It's absolutely tragic how everyone is taught to hate themselves. Is it a big deal when White people get a tan? No! And they shouldn’t be harassed for it either if they do, nor be accused of self hate! But it seems like Black women are always criticized for almost everything we do. Even dating outside of our race, you name it, we will get bashed! There are videos of Black girls who are and we’re considered having or being light skin getting bullied at school for their light skin and looser curled or wavy hair. They would be accused of “thinking that they were cute/cuter than the darker girls because of their aesthetics! Really? Seriously? That says a lot about the accuser! And why should anyone care if someone thinks that they are cute? ( If they are humble, than who cares)! If not, than why even associate with them? Stop the bashing of each other and mind your own business instead!

I so loved this segment. It gives me a lot to think about. I love how the beauty industry has come a long way with options, their overall message of inclusivity can use some improvement. As many of the UA-cam influencers often say, it’s like the brands just said, “here are a few products, be happy”.
I love this channel. You ladies rock!!! And I love the makeup sequences showing real natural skin up until the finished product. I have pushed for my daughters to love their natural looks, and their own sense of beauty. Keep up the good work.
Wow! I just researched the Tignon Law yesterday in the wake of the whole bonnet controversy. Great work, Evelyn and Hallese! I really enjoyed the video and it was very informative.
Love this channel because it brings historical context to issues we as a community continue to deal with. The content is inclusive and allows for further discourse.💓👏🏽💓

😂 I love the Coming to America tribute. Hey my daddy had a Jheri curl until I was 13 he had the Superman curl in the front and all. He ruined a couch with that doo, curl activator problems. One day he came home with a fade. I missed the smell of the hair product for a while but, he needed an updated haircut. My aunties still have Jheri curls to this day.
Those ashy faces reminding me of old pics of my aunts when they were young. The commonest face powder available here was called "Copper Girl".....it's all in the name
Loving this new wave of black beauty we are experiencing. I LOVE all the natural styles and melanin makeup that's now available. It's funny though, my parents who were very pro black when they were younger, have very different views on this movement, especially the natural hair movement. I currently wear my hair natural but I have worn it straight and everything in btwn. Has anyone else experienced this difference btwn the old "black & beautiful" movement & the current one?
Yes, my parents prefer natural hair on bw but think it should be "tamed" with a flatiron or hot curler. They're very old school. I love natural hair on bw and find it super cool and uniquely beautiful. Some people don't know how to style it well, but some do and it looks great.
When Evelyn and Hallease are on the screen at the same time: #blackgirlmagic always happens!!! The Soul Glo ad parts were hilarious! Perfect skin, terrible hair lol 🤣 I live in France and I don't know any organic make up brands for darker skin tone. I can get away with the current shades due to my extreme beigeness lol, but what about my brown skin girls? I'm waiting for Fenty organics lol.
Speaking of the color code. The saying was. If you're white you're alright, if you're yellow you're mellow, if you're brown stick around but if you're black get back. It's 2019! It's time to change destructive and outdated narratives about what it means to be Black and start speaking our truth. At the start of our day, our mantra should be. Say it loud! I'M BLACK AND I'M PROUD!
Ahhh, I love this! I love learning so much about other cultures and their histories! It helps me admire, understand and be respectful! Another note; You ladies are both so beautiful and funny! I am so inspired of the self confidence and I hope to find that same confidence in myself someday! Bless 🍀
I love your videos! I’m from South Africa and it’s interesting to learn about black history from an American context ☺️ even the Indian community I come from values/d lighter skin and I grew up knowing there were lightening products available
I love head scarves. After learning their history and the fashion rebellion that happened, every time I wear one I feel like a bad ass. Thanks for sharing that! More people need to know how it all started
When I saw head wraps, I lowkey got triggered because it reminded me of how there's a white woman(forgot her name) selling bonnets for 100$ as though she invented them XD I talked to my class about Tignon laws because I was I kid you not, the only black kid in class
@robin mcgregor Well foolish one, we don't wear the type of bonnets that white people made. The ones that black people wear are made by black people for our hair texture. It is a completely different style. Also, seeing as you lack comprehension skills which is proven by how you could not read, I said, "As though she invented them." I said she specifically referring to the white woman who claimed she invented it knowing it resembled a bonnet that black people use while pricing it above 100$. She has since apologized.

As a white chick with curly hair that grew up in antique southern town. I remember my grandmother having to go up to my elementary school multiple times raising kane because the teachers found my hair distracting and wanted me to straighten it or would tell me to wait in the hall. One kid went as far as cutting my hair in class without even getting in trouble. This was the late 90's. Some places only except straight and white.
Hi Evelyn. I just looked at this video and wanted to answer the final question. I am biracial. My mom is from Tanzania, my dad is Italian and I live in Italy. I never had people of color to look up to in mainstream media (magazines and television) and the standards of beauty were obviously completely out of my league because I never felt black enough or white enough and struggled to find my identity. I have to thank UA-cam for educating me in so many different ways. First of all just having access to people of color and actually being on awe of their beauty helped me stop hating myself. I learned how to take care of my curls, what foundation could fit even if I am not that into makeup.I used to relax my hair, now I genuinely love my curly mane, I love that my hair is always different. I used to want to have a smaller body, now I am actually okay with not having a model body and I love my skin and love my mom’s skin. I feel like it’s thanks to channels like yours that I can fully celebrate black beauty. I am in awe of your educational channel because it challenges me to think of society and to actually not be passive towards a world that is always belittling in subtle (or not so subtle) ways. So thank you.
I just KNEW yall were going to drag the jheri curl and play soul glo. Talk about iconic 😂 This vid was hilarious and informative. Im so happy Hallease and Evelyn are in another vid together. I used to watch the 4C hair series a few years back. Im going to miss Azie tho. Will definitely be following her on social media.
hi!!! well I'm black, but since I live in Africa and have albinism I deal with another problem. NO MAKE UP FOR ME AND MAKE UP ARTISTS ALWAYS IMPROVISE USING MAKEUP THAT IS TWO SHADES DARKER. Okay what I would like is an episode on how people with albinism were treated in the olden days and how it has evolved.
I love it that black wonen are going natural. The relaxer industry has done you wrong. The makeup and fashion industries have done all women wrong. We are beautiful as we come. So rock an afro, wear locs, or just do you. I do me, too.
I was having so much fun with this video but that clip of that poor kid getting his hair cut like that... really brought it home for me. You keep it real throughout the whole video, don’t get me wrong, but seeing it broke me from any “thing of the past” bubble I had and I’m thankful for that. Passive discrimination because of societal beauty ideals is already bad enough but a blatant public display of it to a child at the hands of school officials is a wake up call... This video, no this whole channel is a blessing!! White women need this type of “conversation starter” to really understand why intersectional feminism is soooo important. The fact that I can still be able to laugh and be entertained as you show me this new perspective is what’s makes this channel great!! Now with a new co-host offering an exciting new voice I can’t wait to see what comes next!!
I love you ladies. Beautiful, funny and educational. Thanks for your work! Oh and the lil Soul Glo re-enactment had me cackling. It's been too long since I watched that film.

Please know your worth and keep your head up and move on!
Stop worrying about what the next girl is doing especially if you don’t like it!
Stop the bashing of each other and mind your own business instead!
Had to pause and comment at the “Soul Glo” spot. Literally laughed out loud. Ok, continue. 😂
Hallease and Evelyn together. #IStan. And did no one warn PBS not to give Evelyn a wig!?
It's out of our control, she brings her own wigs to set. LOLOL - Hallease
Azie, you’re phenomenal and will be missed! So happy to see Hallease become part of this project. You both already have a beautiful chemistry working together. I’ve been subscribed to you both for a long time. Looking forward to more amazing videos!
OMG!! That Pink Lotion was ALL my mom used on my hair growing up lol 😂
And blue magic😂😂😂
Duchess of Beauty I
Same 😂😂
Yessss sameeee
But not on hair, skin
Yep same
I so loved this segment.
Janelle Monae is my beauty ICON. Queen of monochromatic makeup 💋💋
Love this channel because it brings historical context to issues we as a community continue to deal with. The content is inclusive and allows for further discourse.💓👏🏽💓
My beauty icons are Evelyn from the Internets, Jackie Aina, and the cast of Living Single
As a non poc, I really appreciate these videos. I love learning knew things so that I can be as educated and open as possible. Love this channel❤️
Charlie Sanders Likewise! I’m loving this channel!
You guys are hilarious and so informative!! Thank you for lightening that heavy piece about trying to be accepted as a human being. That’s real.
The Soul Glo commercials took me out! I loved Coming to America so much🤣🤣🤣
HALLEASE!!!! OMG! CONGRATULATIONS! from a less than reserved puddle of melted British Black Woman!
😎😎
Love this! My favorite beauty icons are Iman, Grace Jones, Tina Turner, Pam Grier, Viola Davis, Naomi Campbell, Gabrielle Union, Lupita Nyongo, Angela Bassett and the late, great Eartha Kitt, to name a few! My favorite beauty vloggers are Nyma Tang, and Nikki Perkins here on YT-they're both beautiful dark-skinned women with flawless makeup technique! Check them out!
I recommend I am Eloho for makeup tips and just all around Goddessness, she's a pro black channel, dark skinned Nigerian American ex-model, who serves "the looks, the facts and the tea" though most of her makeup vids are from the beginning of her channel, they're still there and she posts new ones sometimes too
I highly recomend her
😂 I love the Coming to America tribute.
Hello. You must be Ugandan. 😊
@@politereminder6284 you got it!
Oh god, I can smell the greasy pink lotion from here. (10 year old me barfing)
Another great video ladies. The Jheri Curl will forever be synonymous with the movie Coming to America for me lol!
Good luck, Azie! You were fantastic! And welcome in, Hallease! I loved your first video in front of the camera.
Thanks :D
I went to Anthony Overton grade school and didn’t know about his contributions until I watched this video. 🤯👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
That 1930s makeup style is so beautiful. I’m gonna try that one for sure!!!
Ahhh, I love this! I love learning so much about other cultures and their histories! It helps me admire, understand and be respectful!
Another note; You ladies are both so beautiful and funny! I am so inspired of the self confidence and I hope to find that same confidence in myself someday!
Bless 🍀
One of the most nostalgic scents from my childhood is the smell of the pink hair lotion. I still love the smell of it!
Just an older white guy here. They do a great job explaining the subject and its history.
Loved this! (the clip of Andrew Johnson getting his locks removed was really painful to watch, but thank you!!)
I had 15 minutes before my second job, so glad I spent it watching this. Ugh I stan
Wow, been there. I know that struggle all too well. Thank you for spending your break with us. - Hallease
I love how Beauty Bakerie organizes and advertises their products. You almost never see foundations shades numbered from darkest to lightest.
The soul glow clips got me 😂😂😂😂
it's going to be an earworm all day for me LOL
4Knewt right! now i have to watch coming to America 😂
When I saw head wraps, I lowkey got triggered because it reminded me of how there's a white woman(forgot her name) selling bonnets for 100$ as though she invented them XD I talked to my class about Tignon laws because I was I kid you not, the only black kid in class
Girl yea sarah selling them expensive axx bonnets lol.
My beauty icons are Tika Sumpter, Nupita, Keke Palmer, Kelly Rowland, and Lizzo.
I Love ya'll 😊😊
That soul glow segment 🤣🤣
I thought the guys next door podcast was starting in the background😂😂this was really good. Also who gave Evelyn hair😂😂😂YOU KNOW WHO SHE IS
What! Evelyn you just introduced me to Azie, but I'm excited to see Hallease in front of the camera. Bon chance Azie. Bienvenue Hallease. Y'all cracked me all the way up but dropped knowledge too.
AWW Azie's gone?
That's okay. Wish her well.
Love u guys.👏👏👏👏👏😊
And don't Y'ALL talk about my 'FRO'S. 😂😂😂
i had no idea this channel existed and i already follow evelyn! so youtube done half its job by putting this video in my recommended i give this 10/10 you have a new subscriber!
LOVE the Soul Glo throwback. Ah, that is seriously the best movie of all time! Great video!
Hallease the beaassst!! I've been following hallease for years! So happy to see her here 😃👍🏽
I swear I be stalking "Say It Loud". I be lookin for a new episode everyday. Keep the content coming.
Yay!!! Good to see Hallease!
🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️
hi!!! well I'm black, but since I live in Africa and have albinism I deal with another problem.
Amazing topic suggestion
I love it that black wonen are going natural. The relaxer industry has done you wrong. The makeup and fashion industries have done all women wrong. We are beautiful as we come. So rock an afro, wear locs, or just do you. I do me, too.
The weave & braid industry has done them wrong. People are bald because of it.
Welcome Hallease! Congrats Azie! Never had a jeri-curl, thank God for that. You both are absolutely gorgeous!
I learn so much from this series! Thank you for making so fun 💄
😭😭that "Soul Glow" took me out 🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😂😂
I love you ladies. Beautiful, funny and educational. Thanks for your work!
Oh and the lil Soul Glo re-enactment had me cackling. It's been too long since I watched that film.
Farewell, Azie! We will miss you in this space. Thanks for mentioning Balanda Atis. Science for the win!
I absolutely love this video. Thank you so much beauties! 💕
My black women are just so BEAUTIFUL 😍 I'm absolutely in love ❤️❤️❤️
@@jovialthinker he never said he did but ok.
They really are. I think black people are the most beautiful
🥰🥰🥰
