I hear you. I intend to "bubble" myself for a while. In my search for escape on TCM today and there was the beer garden song of "Tomorrow Belongs to Me!" Geez.... We didn't look out for that enough, now we all need to sing "The Day after That". Or at least let Liza and Kander and Ebb inspire us with hope.
We need this song in this DEAR WORLD right now. There are challenges that we're facing. Memories of great ideas and adventures in the past will get us through. Prayers to discovering a cure for this horrendous virus so we can have a great future. What a wonderful interpretation of I Don't Want to Know, Liza. Jerry Herman loved you and your family.
My God. I'd always championed this song, and Jerry Herman, against its unfair neglect. Deep down, however, a still small voice had said, Yeah, but what about the relentless three-four, the predictable modulations, the over-derivative cafe-chanson accompaniment? And then I stumbled upon this. Minnelli's grab-you-by-the-throat rubato and back-phrasing, her pinpoint gestures, her hold-your-breath restraint before finally opening up that enormous voice, her sheer acting, and that insane, bewildering, utterly arresting final modulation of key by the genius arranger - this, along with her Sally Bowles, is the highest art of a well-apprenticed thoroughbred at her carefully-crafted, yet magnificently-inspired best.
FABULOUS performance of Jerry Herman song from Dear World..Brava Liza! Beautiful intelligent lyrics..Most writers these days write/sing boring meaningless words,LOUDLY, just noise MINUS the subtlety..Haven't a clue to what good writing/performing's about-YOU thankfully understand precious, memorable words filling the emotions!
Saw this concert when the tour hit Seattle, several months before it got filmed in London. I still say she was and is the greatest live performer I've had the good fortune to witness live. Utterly without equal.
Crazy great smooth soaring Liza Minnelli performance is truly a magnificent Diva turn unlike any other, more one watches this amazing performance the more addictive it gets...Bravo Liza!
This brings back memories for us! We were given this video in July 1986 by a hot number we were 'seeing' while at the same time our gorgeous horse-hung husband was about to divorce us!
Great to hear this classic -Not the fine song, but the legendary lady!
Glorious, got chills. A perfect song expressing how I feel at this awful moment.
