I think not playing an Emeria's Call or two was a huge miss. In fact, I was half expecting this deck to just be loaded with MDFCs to make sure Combustable Gearhulk would always be hitting for +10 damage on ETB. Not saying that's a better build, but it certainly feels more like Combustable Gearhulk against the odds, rather than a Refurbish/GPG deck.

Thank you for this deck Seth! Combustible Gearhulk is my favorite jank card and this video it's been a blast. Could you try it in Pioneer and/or Modern please? Also, maybe Scholar of the Lost Trove could be a good addition, since it flashbacks Gearhulks, Epiphany , GPG and Refurbish.
21:30 I think you made the right choice, he would have drawn at least 2 card per turn plus all the manipulator he plays, there were no way he wouldn't have the hand full of counter
Could you even copy the Torrential Gearhulk EtB trigger with the Sublime Epiphany and cast a Thirst for Knowledge too? The option lighted up when you flashed it back against Gruul game 1.
20:30 In Game 3 or Best of One that's an early scoop, but nobody should yell at you for scooping early when it's actually a strategic advantage not showing your opponent what you're doing and you're almost 0% to win the game, which double Curious Obsession definitely puts you in that territory.
Although a very different deck, this gives me nostalgia of the standard deck with Combustable Gearhulk+Ghalta that was played a few years ago. That was some deck...
Ok so I’ve got this mono blue draw go control that I play on non traditional historic. It uses the torrential gearhulk/sublime epiphany package. It’s reaaally fun. Basically you win on turn 6 if you manage to disrupt your opponent’s tempo enough. You get to flashback sublime epiphany countering a spell, drawing a card, bouncing a thing, and making a second gearhulk which gets you another free spell. It’s a huge tempo swing that just wins you the game. Alternatively you can sublime after you have cast the gearhulk. Really fun. It’s got some weaknesses, like sometimes you are stuck with sublime in hand and not much else. It runs a playset of search for azcanta, that 3/1 adventure fairy and that bounce spell that mills all players for 2. It also runs The counterspell that makes you scry, but it mills the card instead and the one that’s modal where either they have to pay 3 or counter, or you get to dig (from amonkhet). And a playset of opt.
With Combustible you'd want to run the mythic Double face lands. The white angel one and maybe the blue one as well. I'd even consider some aftermath cards as well to one shot kill opp.
Modal Double Faced Card: MDFC. So I was about to ask, then it just took me a while, but I figured it out. I didn't pay much attention to the 3rd Zendikar set so I had no idea what Seth meant when he said MDFCs. Now I do. I need to get back into MTG more
I feel like the gearhulks are just too good of value. Like red either does a ton of damage or draws cards, on a 6/6, Blue is a 5/6 that’s hard grave value, and white is virtually a board wipe slapped on a 4/5
Game 2 against goblins with the lethal swing you technically should have waited untill they tapped krenko, then with the ability on the stack abrade Krenko so that when its ability resolves it will check and see there are 0 goblins and make no tokens therefore making abrade a 2for1 and still accomplishing removing the only blocker.

The token is a copy of the creature. It copies everything, CMC included. Sublime Epiphany tokens also have a CMC for the same reason.
