I remember playing Gran Turismo 3 when my dad walked by and said, "what in the world is that!" He immediately went on the computer and looked it up. He never got that excited about cars, so that moment has stuck with me.
While I definitely think the zonda wins in the looks department, it’s rarity kind of backfires in a sense to where I’ve beheld many diablos in person and have grown a fondness for them. Great comparison!
First of all, I just discovered this channel and being a car and history enjoyer, this is what I have been looking for so, new subscriber for you, now, I would like to make a request, maybe more because is a car from my country that being a world wide legend, but here in Argentina we had in the 60' a car build here and designed by Pininfarina, the IKA Torino 380W, it had pretty interesting design and engine features for the time, and no other than Juan Manuel Fangio tried to prove that it was the best turismo in the world, so he, alongside many argentine racing drivers and engineer, took 3 Torinos to the Marathon de la Route 1969 a.k.a the 84hs (yes, 84hs) of Nürburgring, only one of them finished and, although it was the car that did more laps, it was dropped to 4th place due to some penalties, still I think is the only time a full argentine team got such a good performance in an european competition. Also a video about the Marathon de la route itself would be neat.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! That sounds like a really interesting story, I've added it to the list and I'll look into it. Thanks for the great suggestion!
There‘s something special about Diablo GTR that makes it mesmerizingly awesome, I don’t know why but it feels like the righteous yakuza hitman’s ride, some extra hostility besides being cool.
One of the best articles I read was in Car Magazine. Gordon Murray went to see Horatio Pagani...they spent the whole time discussing how to make cars lighter. Both are obsessive about weight and attention to detail in design and manufacturing. Pagani got the engine deal through Jaun Manuel Fangio.
I give the Zonda the edge in "cool factor" for one major point: Pagani worked for Lamborghini. Started out sweeping their floors, and became a lead designer/engineer on their cars. And he wanted to start using carbon fiber bodywork for their cars (even personally bought the massive machinery needed to produce it), but Lamborghini wanted nothing of it since it wasn't really a thing at the time. Thus, Pagani decided, "... F it... I'll do it myself". And with that sole decision, he created one of the most celebrated and iconic supercar manufacturers in the world. All hand-crafted. All done his way. Made to look fast, go fast, sound fast, yet have a level of driving and interior comfort that was lacking in the supercar market for nearly 2 decades after he unveiled his first concept model. Unless it was a Pagani Zonda variant. I love the Diablo, especially the SV and the GT. But the Zonda is just one flippin' cool car.
before the video started i was siding with the lambo but throughout the video you make very good points, the pagani is fearless and confident. also his creator is argentinian like me, i have no choice but to root for him now
I enjoyed you're comments on these 2 respective super cars. I, personally (we all have our own ideas on different cars & I understand your favorite, the Pagani Zonda. I, however, like the Diablo, through the years of production. So that is my response to your invitation to you you, sir. Thank you for allowing us, whomever we are. C/O Roger Ruuska aka Tootkaylok . Bye, bye!
I never got into Pagani. Any of them. Maybe because I was born in the 80s and grew up with the Diablo, it is more iconic to me. In saying that, I would love to see a comparison between the Diablo and the Ferrari F40, as I think they are the other two most (visually) iconic Super Cars of the era
2002 was the release date of the Zonda but they finished it in 1999. The comparison is still good! The youtuber is wrong about the 0-60 miles of the Diablo GT. The GT can reach 3.4 to 3.5 0-60 and a quarter mile time of 11.1 to 11.3 ONLY IF you will not baby the clutch to get the fastest acceleration! Even the GT and VT 6.0 can match the speed of the Zonda C12 S, A much faster version of the Zonda. If you asked Lamborghini for a taller gear ratio, the Diablo GT will reach 217 to 220 MPH that is about 350 to 354 KPH.
The zonda is fantastic and the interior is better than lambo’s, but the lambo is just amazing, especially the se30. Overall both are great, but there’s something about the Diablo that just makes it finer.
I'd never thought of it like that. In fairness I've never really thought about owning either haha. Interesting point though - attainability certainly influences my own taste in cars
@@automobilistic also the Zonda was never sold in America so its going to be even more expensive. I love pagani to death and even drew one as a project for hs but barrier of entry kinda kills the dream. Its like having a crush on a p-star. But your neighbor is almost as hot and she bakes cookies 🍪
I remember seeing a diablo when it came out. It was 365000 canadian. Luigi said it's cheap on payment plan. 1000 a day for a year. Pagani is a better car.
When 1999 came, they changed the Pop Up to fixed Nissan 300ZX Fairlady Z head lights. The SV, VT, VT Spyder, GT, GTR, VT6.0 and VT 6.0 SE are all fixed head lights borrowed from the 300ZX from 1999 up to 2001.

I don't care about the stats. well I do.. kinda.. but when it comes to looks? The Diablo, looks like just about every other lambo there is. The Zonda? the only thing that looks like is the Zonda, so it wins. hands down.
I love your Gran Turismo 2, 3 and 4 sound tracks. FOR ME THE DIABLO IS THE WINNER HERE IN THE LOOKS DEPARTMENT! Yes the Zonda is rarer but a few of the Diablo versions like the VT6.0, SE30, SV 1998, SV-R, GT and GTR are now all shooting up in market value. And you know the truth even the Diablo can reach 0-60 in 3.2 to 3.6 seconds that is the versions of the SV, GT and VT6.0 if you are good in shifting. The Diablo is an actual 11 second car with the GT and VT6.0 it can reach 11.1 to 11.7 seconds in the quarter mile only if you are good in shifting. These two 6.0 liters V-12 super cars are the fastest versions of the Diablo and was more refined because it was Audi the one who designed these versions. The Zonda C12 S is a 7.0 mercedes-benz V-12 that is reported to have a top speed of 220 MPH but was not proven and 0-60 is 3.5 to 3.7 almost equal to the Diablo. Independent road test reports said that the fastest versions of the Diablo can go over 215 miles and that was when they tested the GT. ALL IN ALL THE DIABLO IS THE WINNER HERE!
Zonda is custom. Diablo is mass produced. Zonda is always going to be worth more and owning the original is worth even more. Zonda has a soul and passion that goes beyond speed or power. That doesn't take away from the Diablo but the Diablo simply can't match it.
@@automobilistic Being called retro as a mid 1990's car is a bad sign. By then the F50 came out, and looks woefully more modern than the F40 or Countach.
While The Zonda did age great, I always preferred the looks of the Diablo. Not to mention Lamborghini has more of a racing Heritage over Pagani that wins it for me though how little the it has it.

You are talking about the normal Diablo and the first VT. But since the introduction of the GT, SV, VT 6.0 and the Millennium Roadster it was easier to drive.
The Zonda gives me total Group C vibes, like a reimagining of one in the 90s. It’s always been my favorite because of that.
i remember reading that mercedes c11 inspired pagani
I remember playing Gran Turismo 3 when my dad walked by and said, "what in the world is that!" He immediately went on the computer and looked it up. He never got that excited about cars, so that moment has stuck with me.
The Zonda looks really cool and ahead it's time. It might be why it stuck around for almost 20 years relatively unchanged looks wise
Horatio actually worked for Lamborghini at the time they were looking for the contache replacement.
Like Jeremy Clarkson said: "This is brilliant ( Diablo). But I like this (Zonda)".
have you gone come completely mad🤣🤣🤣
Then we have the Pegassi Infernus, which is literally the love child of these two cars
Accurate!
@wd5vd It's a supercar from the GTA HD universe. It's design is a mixture of the Diablo, Murcielágo and Zonda.
The interior design of Pagani is unparalleled
I’d also say all his cars designs are as well, just the rear view mirrors themselves are masterpieces.
As an Indonesian im actually surprised a company from my country actually owned Lamborghini once lmao
That's definitely unexpected
Great video, very interesting. Both are beautiful cars but the I prefer the Zonda

The tvr speed 12 vs the mclaren f1 since we're on the topic of 90's supercars

you should do this with the 458 italia and the aventador
No match! It should be the 458 and Gallardo Performante
Never realised the zonda was that old!
Diablo wins across the board, the Pagani is slower and more expensive. Also, it doesn't look like a spaceship to me, it looks like a bug lol
The Zonda is so insane, it makes "Lambos" tame in comparison.
👍💪✌
The Lamborghini Diablo will always be my favorite super car regardless of the time
Zonda for the looks
love the fact you use gt4 music

Pagani ... that noisy neighbour that you can't get rid of.

Why were designers in the eighties so addicted to the ruler?
I think Chrysler made the right choice with the Diablos looks

Diablo>Zonda that it my pick say no more.
If you compare this Zonda to the Murcielago, the Murcielago will easily destroy this Zonda!
