Mars B I kinda think people are just tired of Nicki tbh. I’m still a fan but even though Cardi is mediocre, she still has been being more interesting at least right now than Nicki. I think Nicki has gotten too comfortable not having any direct competition so she feels like she can just put out whatever and everyone is going to eat it up but they aren’t. Part of it is because Nicki doesn’t do enough to let us into her world as Onika. Pills and Potions, Bed of Lies, Regret in Your Tears, Save Me etc were nice insights into Onika but for the most part, a lot of her tracks have the expectation to either be dance/pop radio bangers or her talking about how fat her ass is, how good her pussy is and how rich she is and it’s kind of boring. Nicki is mostly rn just kind of clinging to what’s familiar. I think this might just be her flop era. It’s hard to avoid one especially being as mainstream for as long as she is. Nicki honestly just needs to experiment more with her sound and aesthetics, I feel to come back into their good graces. Cardi is popping because she’s new (it’s like how babies like Shiny things but will get bored of them quickly if they are lackluster). The second her novelty wears off as being the new girl, she could very well end up like Iggy. While Nicki has longevity, she doesn’t feel like she has substance any more. Plus Nicki sometimes flip flops on her positions but then gets mad at other people for doing similar things. Like how she paid Lil Kim dust but is mad that Cardi is paying her dust or how she went back and forth from feuding with rappers from before her but gets mad at the next Rap/Pop girl for not kissing her feet. Nicki’s singles almost feel very “been there, done that”. In my opinion, the only song she’s released that doesn’t get tiring soon is Barbie Tingz. Every other song either feels too stereotypically old Nicki or like she’s trying to mimic the people she claims are trying to mimic her. I think Nicki honestly needs to take a real hiatus from the industry after this album and tour, maybe even watch another female rapper blow up and then come back. I don’t think she has her drive anymore really. Nicki, to me, reminds me of Lady Gaga’s ArtPop era. Gaga seemed like she was having a huge identity crisis (going from being similar to Madonna and trying to figure out who she is) and I think Cardi has honestly caused Nicki to question why her formula isn’t working so she’s trying things that work for cardi but because she’s been in the game for so long, people have higher expectations. And that comes with the territory. If she really wants to cling to being the Queen, she has to carry herself like that. If she wants to be THAT GIRL, she has to amp up her expectations and hold herself to that high standard. If she doesn’t want Cardi or Sad Bhabie or AB, Iggy (Hell even Kash Doll, Lil Mama - even though I don’t think the GP will ever forgive her - or Cupcakke) from finding some way to dethrone her, she has to show that she can be more multi-faceted than she has been choosing to be. Again, I live for Miss Nicki but I gotta call a spade a spade
