I graduated and entered the Air Force in 1969. Fell in love and received a Dear John letter within three months. Struggled with basic training but
made life-long friends. Watched the moon landing at Lackland AFB. No matter what was going on, I managed to listen to the radio and these songs
became as much a part of my life as the many things I experienced that year. All for the good.

sterling kennedy (To Joe as well). I hope to be 70 this coming July.
1970 was a great year for me. I felt free and everything seemed to be possible. Or at least it felt that way.
Now I look back and I think I took perhaps some decisions that weren’t too wise. but I have always believed in living in the now. If you can’t change things, make the best of it.
I know what you feel, where did the time go? Well in my case it was time well spent, mistakes and all. If I had that time again I would probably do it all again. Who knows, maybe it wouldn’t be as good. If you have had good times, be happy that you had them, not sad that they are gone. Stay safe.

These top hits of 1970 make it obvious in that year, one legendary era of music was ending while opening up a new legendary era of music. Still a lot of 'peace and love' and anti-war songs doing well, but there was already a sense of some new directions and new styles in music coming our way.

The first number one song in Billboard's Hot 100 with a three-letter title was "Why" by Frankie Avalon, the very last number one of the fifties. The sixties passed without any three-letter song reaching the top spot, but in 1970 there was "ABC" by the Jackson 5, followed by Edwin Starr's "War" just four months later. Two years after that, Michael Jackson (now performing as a solo artist) managed it yet again for just one week with his love song to a rat, "Ben".
After that, it wasn't until 1987 that another song with such a short title managed to hit number one again. And once again, it was Michael Jackson that did it, with "Bad".

1970 my favourite year ever for music. Reminded me of how great it was then and how crap it is 50 + years later. Great to see so many Tamla/ Motown/Invictus/ Hot Wax tracks were hit records in that year, though not all of them made the UK charts.

    • @sideshow00

EVery damn generation says the same shit about the music they grew up with. 50s adults say the 70s music was devils music, 80s adults says 00s music sucks and 00 adults say the music today sucks.
Music is subjective. I like music from all decades. I think people shouldn't be so close minded. Hearing this over and over for every damn decade is so old and tiring. Like you guys are robots, sheesh.

You had to have put some hours in doing these. Wow. There always has to be some rule to ruin something, but those people that like a song, can write the name of the Singer and the song down, and go back on UA-cam and play any of them in their full length. You Tube even has a Country Record that I am thinking My Uncle bought when He was a Truck Driver. It's a Country Song by The Great Kitty Wells called My Big Truck Driving Man. My Mom and Her Brother and Her Younger Sister and My Sister and I wore out Our Copy, but luckily someone else had it and sent it to UA-cam.

I would consider Sabbath as the first metal band ever. They got more popular over the years as the genre kept growing. Sure they don't have much main stream success but you can't deny their cult following.
