I love what they did to the celebration song. I remember that commercial. In fact, I remember watching kicu TV 36 in Alameda California at a babysitters house every day watching he man. Thanks for this.
3:29--"Your parents have to put it together"--that's the kid-friendly way of saying "Some assembly required." 3:58--Wow; I haven't seen a commercial for Aim toothpaste in ages. I think nowadays it is considered a budget brand with minimal advertising. 7:20--Do they still make Apple Newtons? Sadly, I haven't seen that flavor in ages. I'd love to have some right about now. 6:40--I'm a fan of retro TV, but I never liked "The Love Boat." I decided to give it another chance when Me TV started rerunning it a couple years ago, and I watched one episode and still didn't care for it. 8:26--On the other hand, I love "Bewitched," which is currently rerunning on Antenna TV.
I had the Hot Wheels Cobra Stunt set! I'm missing some of the track parts, but I have most of it(head included) in my garage. The second kid for the Junior 36'ers, while kinda creepy with the icy stare, amazingly did better than the kid for the first one.
My younger brother ad that Hot Wheels cobra thing. Ooh and Rainbow Brite!! My nieces had to have a Rainbow Brite doll!! Crush soda! Wow! Haven't had one in YEARS! Crush, Dr Pepper, Mellow Yellow, those were great soda's back in the 80's. I still on occasion will have a Dr Pepper! Thanks for posting these flashbacks!
These are such a nostalgia trip, thanks for uploading. :) I have quite a few old video tapes myself, if I ever get around to converting them before they disintegrate.
I also wanted to say, GOOD CATCH on that intro to "Hot". That was a very short-lived music video show, and it also aired in New York on WNEW Channel 5 at 4:30PM, after Masters of The Universe (with that annoying twit ORKO) Was VERY nice to see that again.
Orko was my favorite character back then. Of course, I was 7... Just how many seniors that needed dental care were watching He-Man? While there is no cheeseburger toothpaste, there is bubblegum toothpaste. That should be close enough. The Diet Crush ad may be the most dancerrific ad since the soup ad with Ann Miller from the 60s. I was kind of impressed that almost all of the artists highlighted during the Hot intro had significant careers. Also, was up with the host's voice?
I may have to plead ignorance here, but with any diet soda in the 80s (referring to the Orange Crush commercial) that had Nutrasweet in it, wasn't Nutrasweet considered as bad as saccharin?
Nutrasweet is aspartame. Aspartame has been proven safe by numerous studies over the last 35+ years, and is one of the most tested food additives in history. Pretty much anything regarding its link to cancer is a conspiracy theory not founded in any credible science. Saccharin is no longer considered unsafe or linked to cancer in humans: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saccharin#Warning_label_addition_and_removal
@@80sCommercialVault Thank you for your clarification :) I've always been told that aspartame is also just as bad but I looked it up on wikipedia & pretty much got similar info like in the saccharin article
I bet that Junior 36er is still single ladies! Yeah, he's avalible all right... That's some line-up at the Santa Clara County Fair, alright. Although calling Eddie Money a "rock superstar" is a bit of a stretch. "is there room in Barbie's dream pool for me?" Hello, creepy dad!
Crush, Mellow Yellow, Squirt... I forgot how great soda (or pop back in Ohio) was in the 80's. All I see in the vending machines now are five buttons of Coke/Mountain Dew/Pepsi and maybe ONE of Barqs Root Beer.
Does anyone have any additional information on "Hot"? I remember it was on in the summer of 1984, then it was gone. This is the first evidence I have that it aired outside my local market.
There are many jobs "avail" for you now. Call.... (*pause*) Summer Jobs For Youth! That 2nd Junior 36ers ad was even WORSE. Was Channel 36 running on a shoestring budget? Honestly though, I am glad to see that KICU is still an independent station even now. Ernie Anderson can even make a board meeting exciting. That Crush ad sure had a lot of production value. What the heck is MMM Carpets? Can you eat them? Can we tie Orko up to that Hot Wheels Stunt Set, pleeeeease????
Yeah, but they gave Rainbow Brite they traditional "revamp her for the 2000s" makeover so now she's more of a tween attacked by Lisa Frank. Not happy with this at ALL.

Kayanda Eddings I hear ya I like that version they did to that song too I thought it was pretty creative.
"Is there room in Barbie's Dream Pool for me?" Creepy dad is creepy.
I totally want some Orange Crush now. '80's commercials were so much more effective that current ones. lol Thanks so much for posting these videos.

I SO remember that commercial, and even though I was a kid,I though the dad was stupid asking that.

Crush and Mello Yello are still available in my area (Iowa), and Dr. Pepper is very popular here as of 2021.
To me from 82 - 87 was the best years to be alive
Rainbow Brite is still on my bed, and I don't care how old I get, some characters never go out of style.

Locke DID work at a Toy Store at one point.

DUDE! I totally wish I had that Hot Wheels Cobra Set. Surprised they haven't redone that, like they have a lot of their classic stunt sets.
How could you not watch The Love Boat??? It was silly as hell but fun.
hahaha i love these commercials. i had that barbie set lol!
I'm from Indiana, and Squirt is quite prevalent around here.
5:10 is my favorite commercial.
Savagely murder Orko??? He's the whole reason I sat through the whole video LOL. I loved the Orko bumpers as a kid.
Bowing to you sir for finding the Orko bumpers from He Man
Orko was my favorite character back then. Of course, I was 7...

I think I might have had Starlite the Unicorn in the late 80's. Rainbow Brite's kinda coming back now.
I bet that Junior 36er is still single ladies! Yeah, he's avalible all right...
That's some line-up at the Santa Clara County Fair, alright. Although calling Eddie Money a "rock superstar" is a bit of a stretch.

I always figured Jimmy got thrown a pretty substantial beating for hiding under the porch.
"Oh daddy" Oh gag me
We have Crush (orange and grape) here in NC, Pepsi distributes it.
Does anyone have any additional information on "Hot"? I remember it was on in the summer of 1984, then it was gone. This is the first evidence I have that it aired outside my local market.
Also, I think it was an acronym for Hits of Today.
OK, I know it's probably just me, but doesn;t Creepy Dad look like Terry O'Quinn from LOST???
LMAO of skeletor laughing
You mean "The Stepfather?"...remember, this is the 80's we're talkin here...maybe even a "Young Guns" reference would've even worked...lol.
i want the sugar free crush song on my ipod!
... no saccharine aftertaste ...
aww is the little girl in the rainbow brite commericial heather orourke?
@jenzeppelin Yep. They changed it to "Barbie Girl" for their ads.
If rainbow bright makes people happy they should bring it to congress.
