    That last turn was on point. To answer the question... I chose for the conditions and my ability. Love the hp on bigger square waves and the log on 3ft point breaks.

    Great clip Gary! My preference is a 10×23 single but the bloke going backside really rips and the lighting coming through his waves is gorgeous! Well done mate!

    HP for my local beach break (HI4 + 8.5" single fin) .. though I have no doubt proper logs feel stunning on long peeling point waves :)

    The log can be frustrating when the waves are fast. ie I much prefer the performance mals.

    frasers board seems really thin in the water. but is good for that wakky peterson angle cutbak on refracted point breaks. its low weight makes it surf a little hybrid. the peak on the nose of bretts board just give it that bic look and rails i think could be heaps more agressive on HP boards full stop. a super thin last 650 mm reinforced tail . bretts back timing is the best ive seen on lip work. you guys are teaching me to surf via garys channel ,sic, cause i put the time in .

    Great vid n comments section, but as an aside, INCREDIBLE CHOICE of tune here!!! Its Blue Hotel by Chris Issacs which of course was made famous by the movie North Shore circa 1987? What memories this vid conjurred up!! Also this instrumental version is FANTASTIC!!! Where did you find this?

      Thanks Dolby, that tune is by Roberto Marra on UA-cam, he mostly does U2 covers which aren't always suitable for Longboard videos but this tune stood out! 🙏🙏

    My preference is HP, because that’s how I like to surf, but I have Huge respect for The log. The style is classic, timeless and elegant.

    Love them both... what about volume i have seen a 9.6 90 liters...its a lot but do you think its still be able to turn it ans have fun in small to medium wave
    Cheers in advance

      My current log is 9.6, up from the previous 9.4, rails aren't too thick, it's beautiful to ride in small to medium conditions, but I'm 96 kilos and 190cm tall. Finding the right board can be tricky and some people spend years searching. Fun should definitely be criteria number 1 to satisfy!

    I personally prefer riding a Mal, log, better trim. A Hp board feels too much like a big shortboard to me!

  • @vznquest
    @vznquest 2 роки тому +2

    i'm a shortboarder who really needs a longboard. some serious loggers here tell me to go at least 9'6". sounds scary! and i have no idea what to do! any suggestions? (ps im' 6'1, 165lbs)

    • @garymcevoysurfvideo
      @garymcevoysurfvideo  2 роки тому

      Don't worry about length if you like the idea of logging - traditional style, noserides, dropknee, cruising through fat sections, small to medium waves, 9'6 is typical, but if are thinking performance where your basically short boarding a Longboard, then a 9 foot curvy thin tri fin is for you. Thanks for watching DJ!
