I have tried lots of stuff and for me Ballistol is the winner, not the best but always works, pretty cheap, and safe for wood, metal, polymer and leather. Bonus is you can use it indoors safely and water will clean it.

Unless rem oil changed their formula we found up here in the chilly north, it was extremely Waxy and left our autos as single shots. Now that was 20+yrs ago too. Been using G-96 ever since and absolutely love the stuff. Carry a small aerosol can in each shell bag.
A few years back I was in the hunting aisle and I found a Lucas gun oil, and I thought to myself I’ve been using Hoppes number nine for years why not try something different and so I happen to pick up the Lucas gun oil. I will have to admit I’ve hunted coyotes in the middle of winter put the guns in extreme cold with at least 15 below if not colder and they had Lucas gun oil never let me down so maybe u could try that in a video. You are on the right track with your videos. Keep it up. I love this. Benelli told us once after using rem dry lube in an SBE2 that cause severe problems in cold weather to only use CLP (Safariland). Clean it good, then let CLP soak in and wipe it down. Never had any issues since.
Ive been using Balistol after watching Hickok45 and i swear by it now. Great cleaner, lube and leaves a slight film keeping guns rust free. Perfect for somebody not wanting 3 different cans to clean their guns. Only bad thing is Balistol does not smell the best but it's tolerable lol great video Steve!
I live in NY on Canadian border. Some years ago I was shown a lubricant test by the amoror of the RCMP. The two best were G96 and FP-1. you can Google the report to see the results.
Interesting about the Rem Oil. I've been using it since it came out a long time ago. For Shotguns, I use it as a cleaner to get the carbon off of parts and the bore. It actually works really well for that. It's not that great as a lube because it's so thin, but it works great to spray down the guns after a morning waterfowl hunting in the rain. Displaces the water and prevents rust. I keep a can of Rem Oil in the Duck blind. I was an armorer for a Police Department for 26 years. I bought cases of the aerosol Rem Oil to clean out our hand guns. What was good about the Rem Oil, it got the carbon off and prevented rust. if the Officers didn't do a good job (as they sometimes wouldn't), the Rem Oil residue wouldn't gum up like Hoppes #9 does, Hoppe's gummed up and caused malfunctions in H&K P-7 Pistols. So, Rem Oil for cleaning andI had them use Break Free CLP as a lube for the frame & slide rails.
Brake cleaner, air blower, rem oil in the spray can. I'm always in the field lots of duck hunting and it always keeps working. The rem shotgun in the spray can works just as good but more money and it's about the same as the rem oil. Anytime I've use dry lube in any application it always causes problem. Weather its in my professional job or my equipment. Have replaced more parts due to dry lube. It collects dirt grime and holds in in place. A light oil lube and wipe off the access will last longer everytime.
I would love to see this winter function test with Frog Lube. There are very conflicting stories about its cold weather performance and most of the failures are responded to with an improper application making it remain in a thick form. A removal of old products and heat applied frog lube with a full wipedown would be really revealing. It won't mean Steve's needs but for someone that occasionally shoots it has some value if it works in cold weather. I also saw another comparision and One Shot was another lube that I would love to see tested. Keep making great videos.

I am however very disappointed in Hoppes though especially where I live where it’s more expensive then REM Oil so you’d think it would perform better. Another oil I’d recommend is Lucas Oil Products “Extreme Duty Gun Oil” it’s really surprised me so far for the cold weather and has my firearms functioning great.
I find these videos interesting. Keep it up. I’m a Benelli guy and often hunt in sub freezing weather. After years of I’ve come down to taking the Benelli oil that comes with their guns and using for anything but my shotguns. Every year or 2 depending on how much I use them I scrub my shotguns down with Dawn soap with a toothbrush and warm water. Then I lube with FP10 CLP and it’s been the ticket. I’ve resurrected a lot of my friends so called POS guns with this method. People don’t realize how dirty their guns are with dirt and old sticky oil residue. Though I am interested in checking out that Ottis dry lube.
Ive never had good luck with dry lube on my auto shotguns. I tried otis and had jams in super cold weather. Out of all the oils ive tried the non aerosol CLP and slip2000 ewl have done best for me.

80 below is unmatched in the cold (and regular temps). I’ve never used anything like it. It somehow repels dirt, dust and powder residue to last SO much longer. The corrosion protection is also superior.
You can get rem oil in an areosol can. I have been happy with it, I think has a solvent in it that evaporates and functions as a mostly dry lube once it dries but the solvent helps to clean while wet. This is my hypothesis and I am not a hundred percent sure but I like it for use as a lubricant on anything that I don't want to collect dirt but want cleaned and lubricated (wheelchair bearings for instance)
You've gotta be a Minnesotan. We're the only ones crazy enough to do this to a gun. I'm used Rem-Oil for years in Minnesota and North Dakota. One thing I've learned was taught to me by an old Rangemaster in Germany. Clean the hell out of your gun, oil it after cleaning, wipe down all excess oil, shoot it dry in the cold. My old 1100 has never failed to cycle in the cold.
Would be interesting to know what differences, if any, existed in bolt finish, receiver finish, and springs. If any of those are different, it's not really an equal test, all things considered. Awesome content, though. A couple of seasons ago my father's A5 was jamming up in cold weather, mid teen temps, while my old M3000 had no issues. Always figured it was his Rem oil vs the Safariland CLP I was using.
All those guns are stupid fast before the snow and dirt. Wow. I use rem oil for a couple decades now. Normal situation it’s always been fantastic. I like it because you can lite oil or wet oil your guns. Aerosol cans and wipes are my choice.
Cool video, can tell a lot of work was put into it. Maybe do the same test with pumps? My go to lube has been rem oil or hoppes. But in VA, it's basically just a rust preventative. I did have trigger malfunction on gun that I had accidentally over lubed with rem oil.

Clenzoil Field & Range. It's pricey, but as for wear protection, it's second to none... Literally. I was shocked how nothing came even close to its wear protection in Project Farm's testing.
I grab a quart of mobil 1 at Walmart for 6 bucks. wipe internals down with it and wipe it off. Lasts for years, if its good enough for my engine a shotgun will be fine

Is it possible that the gun you used rem oil on is the oldest and possible has more wear? It wouldn’t have as tight of tolerance as the newer , less fired gun?
Rem oil must have changed there formula, it used to just gum up at anything around 0 degrees! I thought it was going to be at the bottom but I have been proven wrong many a times!
OMG 🤢🤢🤮 when you poured that vacuum dirt on them I swear I could smell it. I was honestly surprised by the Rem oil, it might have worked better if it was in a squeeze bottle instead of a squirt bottle. I personally use Hornady One Shot cleaner and dry lube and a couple drops of Shooters lube oil on the bolt of my Browning Silver. When I first got it it would FTF or FTE the first 3 or so shots of the day after cleaning and I thought it just wasn't broken in yet. After a couple cases of target loads and a few magnum turkey shells I don't have that problem anymore but I still haven't tried the Hornady One Shot by itself, however it will always have a place in my range bag because its just plain awesome, and because of that I would really like to see your opinion of Hornady One Shot in a follow up video after reading comments of your viewers perspectives.

Rem-Oil has silicone in it, that's why it works so well.

I’ve used rem oil for the past 17 years. Started with it on my basic Remington 870 and now use it on my A400 xtreme. It’s never let me down!

For gun oil I usually use Weapon Shield. Sometimes I use a dry lubricants like Strike Hold or Clenzoil.

I use CLP. I used it for years in the Military on my M4 and it works great on my shotguns.
I run Crisco.
My gunsmith recommended Ballistol. But I have never put it through anything like what you did here. Great video. Thanks.

Slip 2000 EWL. Militec-1Both have serve me well for years through waterfowl seasons. Used on most brands of auto shotguns. Thanks for your review.
I use Lucas gun oil as much as I can but differential oil and atf work really good in a pinch
ATF oil mixed with a little Marvel Mystery Oil works wonders for me, and it has a kinda sweet smell to it.
I’m in Texas and rem oil works great here but it’s also not that bad during winter

I run my benellis very dry but always have rem oil with me in my blind bag. IF they start jamming then some remoil and go. deep clean after the hunt.

Rem oil was always the oil in an aerosol can laying on the floor of the boat, but I was surprised by your test LONG LIVE THE REMOIL.
I like good old rem oil. My dad uses it and I use it. My father’s been using rem oil since the 80’s. Yeah it’s messy but it just works.
regular motor oil/ for my AKs. high temp grease. oh buy the way never gets that cold were I'm at.

I use mobile 1 grease with 10-20 W motor oil in my super x 1s. Smooth as glass. Keep a can of REM oil in the blind if needed.
The 10-20 W oil is mixed with a little marvel mystery oil also.

I have used REM oil in the past but I never have put that much crap in my shotguns. Benelli oil is really good too.
Best lubrication to use in cold weather: dry lube. Its hands down the best.

When the weather gets miserably cold and snowy especially Cold clean your gun and use powdered graphite. Won't come up and won't freeze up
