When it comes to MJ and Miles I'm reminded of a line from Bruce Campbell in Spiderman 3's tutorial, "What would you be if you couldn't stick to walls? You'd be man, is what you came here to play, man 3?"
Okay, got a question for y'all. Other than not being Spiderman, and being forced stealth segments, is there anything objectively bad about including gameplay where you play as MJ and pre-powers Miles Morales?
@@brennanhearn6342 other then the first one being kinda boring since she doesnt have anything. No not really. My favorite mj part was when she was in the train station. @Da Shieldmasta That frustrates me to no end. Miles could be a good character (he had the beginning of a motivation: he becomes Spider-man because he let Peter die when he could have acted) but since he came to 616, they've failed to make him relatable and have convincing motivations, or arcs. They're just selling him as "minority Spider-man" when he could be much more.

I would agree, Squelch Otron. Up until this game, I hated Miles's guts. I couldn't stand the obvious attempts at pandering and virtue signaling from the Marvel left. Then they just piled on more and more "look how much better Miles is than Peter!" shit. Miles is as strong, fast, and agile as Peter, as well as every bit as good a fighter, even though Pete's been doing this for years and years. Miles also has the Spider-sense and ability to cling to things AND the webshooters as well (despite the fact that he did not design them and shouldn't know how to refill/create the refills for them). ALSO, Miles has electric blasts (very spider like, there) and the ability to go invisible. Where SHIELD completely ignored Ultimate Peter and let him get his ass killed, they've bent over backwards to supply Miles with everything he needs (so I guess...who cares about the web shooters, SHIELD just refills them for him). I'm surprised Odin hasn't come to Earth with an uru forged sword (because swords are way cooler than dumb hammers) that can do everything Mjolnir can do...but better. That Galactus hasn't granted him the power cosmic...but he doesn't have to serve as a herald...he just gets all the power of the Silver Surfer...but better of course. Then Dr. Strange can take him under his wing and make him into the NEW sorcerer supreme because he'd do a way better job than Stephen Strange or anyone else ever has. Hell, the Ancient One returns from death and learns from Miles. After that the Elders of the Universe can come to Earth and declare Miles the youngest Elder of the Universe and grant him the Power Primordial. They'd then give Miles a previously unknown Infinity Gem called the "All" that only works for Miles, and summon the other gems to him whenever he wants, as well as shut off or turn those gems' powers on no matter where or what universe he's in. Then Adam Warlock comes and declares Miles the new Living Tribunal, but sadly he can't serve because the One Above All appears and just gives Miles all his powers and retires forever. All because Miles Morales is black...er...I mean such a great and meaningful character who earned all that stuff given to him! Anyway ranting and raving aside, the PS4 game actually got me to really like Miles Morales. I think he's fine in the game, and very likable. He's still a bit of a Gary Stu, but I chalk that up to fat fuck Dan Slott's writing/contributions/whatever the hell he had to do with the game. If the comics adopt this version of Morales, I won't have nearly the problem with him that I currently have.
Richard Klosterman I don't think it's fair to call him a Stu here since he doesn't really have any glory moments and mostly serves as a good wall to bounce Peter's more mature side off of. I hope they go the Stewart route here and have Peter start training him out of a desire to help him avoid the mistakes he made as Spider-Man, while Miles ends up being the immature Spider-Man we were expecting out of Peter, seen through a more slice-of-life lens as he decides to be a hero like his father was.
I wouldn't buy a Superman game to write Pulitzer-winning articles as Clark Kent, I wouldn't buy a Hulk game to watch Rick Jones snap his fingers at authority... so if I pick up a Spider-Man game, it's obvious that I want to play it as Spider-Man! I am INCREDIBLY disappointed that they shoved Ock in at the end as the final boss instead of letting Negative have the spotlight properly. MrDevious85 That's made all the more mind-boggling by the fact that he MADE Mr. Negative. You'd think he'd be pissing himself in glee at getting the opportunity to sell one of his first-ever new characters to a casual audience, but apparently not.
@@dashieldmasta177 Really late I know but I actually think it's the reverse. I get the feeling the studio wanted to use doc ock and the Sinister Six more but Dan Slott came in and pushed Mr. Negative more.
I'll admit, there's only so much jobbing to Silver Sable I can take before I start calling out Dan Slott. (apparently, the proportional physical ability of a Spider which is enough to stop a mach truck DEAD in its tracks cant do shit about an East European muggle's judo toss)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who dreaded playing as MJ everytime the game switched to her (or Miles for that matter). By the way, great choice of music for both the intro and outro.
The Punisher doesn't really make for a good franchise to make a game around in terms of super heroes though. It would need a Max Payne 2 style game to work IMHO. As for a Daredevil videogame... I kind of like that idea, however it would have to be more like the Ben Affleck movie and not the Netflix stuff.
"Which is about as fun as moonwalking through a minefield when it doesn't." That sir is high praise. There is no greater enjoyment than moonwalking onto a mine.
You'd think that game companies would've learned by now not to shoe horn in stealth sequences to games that weren't designed around stealth. Everyone hated them 10 years ago and that hasn't changed one bit.
nah i like Jim but jesus he is an idiot sometimes. he like much of the SJW inclined left wing type people is only trying to do the right thing, it's just a shame that due to ideological lenses that the thing they think is right is actually inherently harmful and has a completely opposite result to the intended one, many right wingers are the same too, we should not promote the "us vs them" mentality, it'll just take longer to get anything done. in the end Razor and Jim are both conveying their best complaints to make the game industry better and i commend them both equally.

Doc Ock punching off Scorpion's jaw and punching Black Cat's teeth out are the best times whenever it comes to Doc Ock as a character, but this game didn't do him any justice at all.
Funny part is, MILES WITH SPIDER POWERS IS A STEALTH GAMES DREAM he's got: -A built in non-leathal stun blast that has an AoE on certain surfaces -He can turn invisible -He while weaker than Peter is still strong enough to do a 1 hit KO on most people if he tried. - His spider sense is weaker(he can't figure out where it's coming just by focus) but this would allow a balanced stealth approach where you're not just a psychic who can dodge or avoid everything. -He always wears primarily black with red accents and logo as Spider-Man, meaning he wouldn't look ridiculous hiding in shadows
The thing that got me so angry about the MJ and Peter relationship in this game is that Peter is RIGHT about MJ putting herself in danger. If she gets caught, she's dead.
I loved Yuri. By far my favorite female character. I couldn't wait to kick Silver Sable's ass in an obvious upcoming boss fight...that never happened. Total bullshit, I think I saw Dan Slott's fat fucking fingers in that. (Male feminazi can't have a man beating up on a bitch woman, now can we? @@planetxaudio1699 yes, she looked so detached. It's very implied that she loves Peter very much but you don't actually feel it in the character. Yes, even considering the ending.
The facial animations for a lot of characters weren't that great. The only characters you feel chemistry between (imo)are Spidey and Yuri, but I thought it was because the VAs are married irl. Aunt May was kind of there just for her ending. I don't know that I would consider it annoying as much as meh.Sable and MJ on the other hand I would consider annoying.
I have been a big fan of Insomniac games ever since their second title, Spyro the Dragon (1998). While I've only recently rediscovered and am enjoying their Ratchet and Clank games, I've even liked their spin on brown-and-gray Quake-clone FPS shooters with Resistance. Unique guns with multiple fire modes (some really strange like the Mutator), retro-game design elements such as having health restores and exploding barrels, and even some surprises such as (spoiler!) killing off the lead protagonist in the second game. Insomniac is one of the few AAA game studios ironically which has kept its founder, Ted Price, as company CEO ever since its founding.
SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME had J. Jonah Jameson doing 'outraged pundit' segments. But he resembles, in a quite disconcerting way, that hysterical old woman Keith Olbermann.
If they keep Dan Slob and anyone else that works at Marvel comics away from the inevitable sequel. It might possibly be the best Spider-Man game ever. Doubt it, though. They corrupt everything entertaining.
Girtalir Because Osborn was the mayor in the first story he was introduced in right? The way those characters are interpreted in this game does not equal how they were interpreted when first introduced

"Selling his soul to the devil"(which it basicly is anyway,we are talking about a hero figure making a deal with a demonic force here)is just the better analogy and much shorter than writting out the whole deal. Ah yes CW,such a intersting concept, such a horrible execution. Though to be fair from what I heard CW2 is actually even worse...which is impressive in itself.
I still remember the first Spider Man game on the Gamecube as the best, because they let you play as the Green Goblin(Harry Osborn). It was fun fighting Norman Osborn as his son. Much more dramatic than some random nerd with superpowers fighting him. Not to mention all those fun gadgets and weapons.
I actually liked the miles sequences, because I enjoy the character. I agree that the way they gave him powers was a little ham-fisted, I was happy he got them as soon as he did and they didn't draw that shit out to much.
Okay this just reminds me of why I like Spider-Man PlayStation one so much to this day. Spider-Man 2 not so much something concerning a plane and what they went with for big shockers voice actor just didn't do it for me.
Micah, it made feel like Spider-Man if they removed the stealth combat missions, and the MJ/Miles stealth missions, so if they removed those segments for the sequel then it’d be like if you the player is what it’s truly like living as Spider-Man.
Only bad thing i gotta say about the game is alterations done to it since it came out. Like changing Peter's face for the "remastering" and the Miles Morales game. For one, it's weird af. And seriously, do they really think that ppl are gonna buy that "the mocap actor couldn't make it for reshoots" bs? Higher-ups wanted the game to have brand synergy with current Spidey media like the MCU and wanted him to resemble Tom Holland. There's a reason Robbie Daymond, good voice actor that he is, sounds like a discount Holland in the Marvel's Spider-Man cartoon. Nothing wrong with it, aside from how babyish and younger than Miles he looks in the games while sounding annoying in the show, just wish they'd actually admit it.
Alexander Cane, it’s really easy to shit on Infamous Second Son if you’ve played both Infamous games and compare it to how shitty Infamous Second Son really is.
Enjoyed it. Yeah the supplemental sneaking shouldve always been in the context of Spidey getting overwhelmed. I very much appreciated the contrast of feeling overpowered and underpowered in a narrative sense, and seeing the cooperation but I do think its gotta follow logically for the avg player or viewer when ya do it.
Or at the very least the stealth should be used for hostage situations where there's trigger happy terrorists that would kill the hostages if provoked.
You would think they would get a pro Spidey writer instead of one of the doujin authors that marvel currently employs. What's Straczynski doing these days? McFarlane? Conway?
I loved the 90's Spiderman cartoons. I hated the fact it ended on a cliff hanger. I also hated the fact, that pretty much most of the actions scenes were reused shots from the opening and closing credits.
You forgot about the constantly re-used sequence where Spider-man crawls through a sewer. I guess Fox slashed the budget in half and the producers hoped nobody would notice since it aired weekly.
@@MrDevious88 true, true. My favorite reused shot came from the Dr. Strange cross over, where the only enemy attack scene is MJ flying and shooting eye lazors.

It was in the book Spider-man: Reign. It took place in an alternate future where a fascist regime took over New York and Peter Parker gave up on life after his wife died.
We need a Daredevil game or a remake of that awesome Punisher game
Why have a remake when you can adapt the entire Punisher MAX storyline.
The Punisher already has two classic games under his belt.
Yes please.
@@PHeMoX why would it have to be like the movie?
>Gorillas in the Mist
[insert UT "HOLY SHIT" here]
I love how he continuously shits on moviebob and Jim Sterling
Well of course all three of them are the same person.
"Which is about as fun as moonwalking through a minefield when it doesn't." That sir is high praise. There is no greater enjoyment than moonwalking onto a mine.
The stealth segments in this game are almost as worthless as Sterling's existence.
Indeed!
You'd think that game companies would've learned by now not to shoe horn in stealth sequences to games that weren't designed around stealth. Everyone hated them 10 years ago and that hasn't changed one bit.
fuckin' perfect.
nah i like Jim but jesus he is an idiot sometimes. he like much of the SJW inclined left wing type people is only trying to do the right thing, it's just a shame that due to ideological lenses that the thing they think is right is actually inherently harmful and has a completely opposite result to the intended one, many right wingers are the same too, we should not promote the "us vs them" mentality, it'll just take longer to get anything done. in the end Razor and Jim are both conveying their best complaints to make the game industry better and i commend them both equally.
OMFG THAT OUT THEME I LOVE IT THANK YOU RAZORFIST THAT WAS THE CLASSIC SHIT!
90's comics was the best!
I'm just annoyed you can't find any fucking dvds/blue rays of the 90s spider man cartoon.
you missed out on (imo) the biggest flaw of the game, that, like all good PS4 games, it lacked almost any replay-ability
It has a lot of replayablitly. Swing around and fighting crimes never gets old.
Also new game plus makes it more replayable
@@sebastian6845 it does get old. Swinging is automated no skill or danger for messing up.
Crimes all play the same no variety.
Sidequests are get pigeons or save fish no challenge or variety
I thought this was a pretty good game. One of the best depictions of Doctor Octopus yet.
Doc Ock punching off Scorpion's jaw and punching Black Cat's teeth out are the best times whenever it comes to Doc Ock as a character, but this game didn't do him any justice at all.
The ‘Gorilla in the Mist’ joke triggered me. So 2016. (Great review, though).
Cancel #Razorfist lol.
That was funny. I didn't get the Trayvon reference though
Spinne Mann, Spinne Mann, tut was auch immer eine Spinne kann.
Game was pretty awesome, but those sneaking missions got so old.
sarah episcopo especially that one with Rhino.
God I was more annoyed at them. Spider man could have done those. But yeah the game was awesome aside from those points.
Funny part is, MILES WITH SPIDER POWERS IS A STEALTH GAMES DREAM he's got:
-A built in non-leathal stun blast that has an AoE on certain surfaces
-He can turn invisible
-He while weaker than Peter is still strong enough to do a 1 hit KO on most people if he tried.
This game is a better Spiderman movie than Spiderman Homecoming.
The thing that got me so angry about the MJ and Peter relationship in this game is that Peter is RIGHT about MJ putting herself in danger. If she gets caught, she's dead.
all of the female characters where profoundly annoying.
Even though she gets cheap shot after cheap shot on him throughout the game)
@WillFanofMany She basically does nothing except give quests, yet is perpetually pissed off and wants to appear bad ass at all costs....hated her
Aunt May was annoying?
Resistance 3 was rad, but Resistance 2 was trash IMO. Glad they walked back the Halo knockoff crap.
So they figured out the actual SPIDERMAN part, but bollocks it up anyway. well done.
"Spider-man once gave MJ cancer with his radioactive jizz. This is a thing you now know."
HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Didn't that happen in 2007?
@@1beatcher I don't know. I'm just quoting the end credits of the video.
Spider-Man: Reign.
Almost a reason to buy a PS4.
Almost.
@Hall Light
Man, STFU. You make us look bad.
@All Light I hope you're joking, if not 🖕
There are plenty of reasons to own one
Yeah I don't think any exclusive is going to make me go out and buy a 300-400 dollar console again. Not worth.
On it's own, it isn't. But then again there's God of War, Last of Us, Uncharted, Bloodborne, and Horizon: Zero Dawn to accompany it.
Holy shit, dude. I was laughing so hard. You out Dennis Miller'd Dennis Miller.
ive had the ramones stuck in my head since this game came out. glad im not the only one.
I have a theory that Fisk is supposed to be Trump the businessman and Osbourne is supposed to be Trump the Politician
Wut
Yeah, because trump existed back when the characters were created.....
Girtalir Because Osborn was the mayor in the first story he was introduced in right?
The way those characters are interpreted in this game does not equal how they were interpreted when first introduced
@Templar Knight
Deus Vult
Oh yeah, I read about when Peter Parker gave Mary Jane cancer. Apparently it basically turned him into the Punisher. Good thing it wasn't canon. Then again...
Remember when spiderman gave mary jane cancer because of his radioactive semen?
Would still have been a better and more relatable canon than selling his soul to the devil.
@@strugglesnuggledslime7040 Close, he sold his future daughter's soul to keep his secret identity and have aunt may survive mortal wounds.
Civil war has some fun shit doesn't it?
@Thomas Walker Civil War was the herald for the terrible changes that happened to Spider-man.
@Thomas Walker
Heh thanks,Im well aware.
OMD was the comic that made me drop superhero comics(and with that comics as a whole)after all.
"Selling his soul to the devil"(which it basicly is anyway,we are talking about a hero figure making a deal with a demonic force here)is just the better analogy and much shorter than writting out the whole deal.
Ah yes CW,such a intersting concept,such a horrible execution.
Though to be fair from what I heard CW2 is actually even worse...which is impressive in itself.
Great to hear the 90's Spiderman Cartoon theme again!
Wow, Razor went a lot easier on the game than I was expecting him to.
I can’t wait to see Razor’s take on the upcoming Miles Morales game.
I give this game a 0/10 because there was no pizza missions in the game.
A Spider-Man that isn't a goddamn teenager in high school?
Fucking finally.
A common misconception thou. Spidermans and batmans enemy counter and controls were adapted and improved from spiderman 2.
No controls and counter are completely different
Holy crap, Razor excavated his PS4 to play Spider-man!
Nostalgia goose-bumps when hearing that 90s Spider-Man cartoon themesong. Fuck yes.
Currently playing through Miles Morales while re-watching the 90's cartoon of Spider-Man... So good.
Damn, I almost forgot how much I loved that Spiderman intro.
Okay this just reminds me of why I like Spider-Man PlayStation one so much to this day. Spider-Man 2 not so much something concerning a plane and what they went with for big shockers voice actor just didn't do it for me.
The Spider-Jizz Arc was a deep, meaningful, and infinitely influential point of comicbook history that should never be forgotten.
6 Hours? I spent 50 on my first playthrough, but that's most likely because I did everything the game had to offer.
The 90s outro...HECK YAY YUH
But did it make you feel like Spider-Man?
Micah, it made feel like Spider-Man if they removed the stealth combat missions, and the MJ/Miles stealth missions, so if they removed those segments for the sequel then it’d be like if you the player is what it’s truly like living as Spider-Man.
Polygon is the cancer of videogame journalism.
Addictive AF. I can see why they’ve named themselves “Insomniac Games” because holy shit the withdrawals after turning off the console at night.
That Spider Man 90s theme brought back memories.......
You need to be on Fox doing this stuff LOL this is one of my favorite things to watch.
A little late, but worth the wait.
Immensely entertaining as always, Razor.
He did it! He shat on infamous second son!!! Yaaaaaayyy finally I can die!
You just had to hit me in the nostalgia with that outro didn't you.
You would think they would get a pro Spidey writer instead of one of the doujin authors that marvel currently employs. What's Straczynski doing these days? McFarlane? Conway?
I’m that spider who lives off of Chick-fil-A and pizza!
Knowing peter is just raw dough with ketchup
Ben Reilly is best spiderman costume
I particularly like the Spider-Man Unlimited suit.
The credits of this video brought back so many fond cartoon memories 😭
I felt it was dead inside, a strangely depressing soulless game

I'm... impressed. I did not think Razor would be this kind to the game, given the forced wammin, blackening and the puzzles thing. Unfortunately it's on PS4 only.
90's Spiderman theme, best Spiderman theme. One of the many reasons the 90's was awesome. Love ya Razor, but I think the 90's beat the 80's.
"Spider-man once gave MJ cancer with his radioactive jizz."
Wait, what?!
It was in the book Spider-man: Reign. It took place in an alternate future where a fascist regime took over New York and Peter Parker gave up on life after his wife died. It was only after J Jonah Jameson gave his a proverbial kick in the ass did he start to fight back. It was an okay book at best but I'm glad it fell down the memory hole.
