My partner has a lot of tools, so when he needed a circular saw, I ordered this one for him as a Christmas gift. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxYDKeIjKLOfcwTgdin7TtCutsz4MbIc43 He is incredibly happy with the purchase. He stated that he likes that it is powerful, but still easy to use and cuts very well. He mentioned that it is important to know the right tools for the job at hand, and this compact saw has been exactly what he needed for a variety of projects at his rental properties and renovations. He also appreciates the battery packs, as stated, he owns a lot of DEWALT tools, so he is able to always keep batteries charged as needed.

Years ago I bought a Ryobi tool with 2 batteries. The OEM Batteries crapped out on me within just over a year. Bought 2 aftermarket 4ah batteries off Ebay. Holy Moly!!! I've had them for nearly 5 years and they still are going strong. I've had to cycle them once or twice when there has been a long lag between uses but I use them pretty often. I'm actually getting rid of the tools before the batteries had the chance to go bad! And those two batteries cost me about $56.

There is another factor on run time.. battery life will extend a bit after it has been cycled a few times. Comparing a used Dewalt to a brand new generic isn't absolutely a perfect comparison.. You might get a little back from the 3 minute run time difference between the two

the angle of the line to be adjusted on the x or y axis for laying out slopes. Angle adjustment is by pushing one of two buttons and has very fine increments. The square shape of the tool makes it easy to square the x axis and y axis to the walls of an enclosed area like a garage. When squared, a slope can be laid-out in either or both axis with a compound slope having a high-point in one corner and a low point opposite that corner. The tool can also be put on its side in this mode to project a line onto floor, ceiling and walls. As you would expect at the price the tool is ruggedly built for professional use.*

Good comparison and makes the point, that the cheaper battery isn't up to par BUT the price point is there. You could buy more batteries for the same price and have even more charge. No, they probably won't hold up as well. I think one more test would be the actual output of the tool. My experience is that sometimes the better battery, the tool will perform better. It's amperage/voltage draw on load. Had some Makita cordless tolds and there was a difference in it's performance with the factory battery. With the aftermarket battery, after one or two uses, there was a drop, while the factory Makita battery it performed full power until the end of the charge.

I bought two of those generics. A solder joint came loose on one, and the case broke on the other. They just don't hold up to being dropped off an extension ladder 3 or 4 times a week like the Dewalts do. Sometimes I'll drop a cordless from a high height, look down at it and think "I had to kill it this time" Nope! The battery will fly 15 feet away from the drill, I plug it back in and back to work. I'm amazed!

  • @marksteele45
    @marksteele45 5 років тому +2

I bought two of those generic batteries. The top plastic case broke on one of them, and I swapped it with an old Dewalt battery. The other one just stopped working. I'm assuming that I dropped it, and broke an electrical connection inside. I think that must be how I broke the 1st battery too. I'm always dropping the screw guns. So I assume that the generics aren't as tough as the Dewalts.

Sets can be cheaper for several reasons. When you’re buying the set, they know you may be 1) debating an upgrade within dewalt, or more $valuable to them, considering coming over from a competitor’s platform. On flip side, When you’re in the middle of a job and your battery’s Not cutting it, you’re their captive audience. You’re more price insensitive and they know it.

They don't seem to last quite as long as the dewalt, but it's so miniscule only someone who uses their dewalt power tools every day or at least 5 days a week like I do would notice. At the time, I paid 70 bucks for the pair. 20v 5ah. I have no complaints, and I mostly use mine on a DCF899B model impact. And it's no joke. 700 ft-lbs torque and 1200 ft-lbs breakaway. I use it a lot, and these batteries hold up pretty well.

You definitively get what you pay for with batteries. in my experience genuine dewalt, makita, canon , Panasonic, whatever has always been vastly superior. Longer life. Longer run time and something no one ever thinks about is stand by time. if you dont use a piece of equipment for a while, the battery goes flat. i noticed that genuine batteries stay charged for a very long time. So you can pick up that tool, battery pack or whatever and it works...even months later!

Couple weeks ago I bought two 5.0 amp 20volt aftermarket batteries for my DeWalt tools, with the $10 coupon they were less than $32. (for both!) They are Comrgike brand. I have not used this brand before, but I have other brands and have had very good luck with them. If nothing else, I would think they will eventually force the major companies into reducing their way overpriced batteries. Thanks for the video.

Not saying that the test wasn't useful, but since Liion batteries are known to gain capacity after a few charges and the LED "bar meters" aren't precise, I'd repeat the run and discharge a few more times on the generic and see if the result changes. Also aftermarket batteries aren't consistent from run to run or even item to item, so I'd look for a trusted seller who warrantees what they sell, and test a second battery. Also, its normal practice when testing an unbranded product to give a link to the ad where you ordered it from so viewers can get the same product.

I bought the identical battery on Amazon and couldn't happier. The two I bought have held up well and I have not experienced any defects in their use. I haven't torn the batteries apart so I can't state that they have all the safety features that DeWalt incorporates in their batteries, but frankly, I don't care. It's not worth the price for me to worry about some dubious safety features.
DeWalt products are good and innovative but the company appears to be going the route that Snap-On took years ago. Notably, sending their prices to the stratosphere. I hope DeWalt (actually Stanley/Black and Decker) recognizes the fact that its nice to offer high quality tools, but as you raise your prices fewer and fewer people will be able to afford buying them. Market share will go down, then copycat companies like Harbor Freight will suck up its lost market share.

    • @davekleiboeker4614

Good video, when making a video like this it may be worth it to mention the battery pack warranty. Dewalt is 3 years. pretty sure after the 30 day amazon return period the other pack is just a hassle if there is ever an issue. Also, with the cheap pack i notice they do not last as long under heavy load. an unrestricted blowers wont work a pack nearly as hard as drilling holes of saw cuts. I understand doing a time comparison but time only matters for the blower. Cut/holes per charge is what really matters and half of the cheap batteries hit their thermal shutoff before fully discharging so something to keep in mind. Peace out! Sincerely Dewalt fanboy.

My foreman thought he would save money buying some generic NiCad batteries for the Makita drill/drivers we have all over the shop, the Genuine NiCad Makita batteries ran about $50 each, he found these other ones for $25 and they had no name on them LOL.
I noticed they weighed like half what the real ones weigh, maybe not half but noticeably lighter, we also noticed their run time and especially their lifespan before they had to be thrown away was a lot shorter- DUH! they cost half the price and apparently had HALF the material inside, thus the much lighter weight.
You get what you pay for in most cases, cheap batteries are cheaper because they have less everything in them, poorer quality, and less lifespan, so those cheaper $25 batteries wound up costing the same as the real Makita batteries in the end, maybe a little more when you consider disposal costs of 2 batteries instead of one.
We use these Makitas all day long every day and have batteries right now from Makita that are from as old as 2006-2012 (I date all tools and batts when they are bought) that still hold their charge and work, and they get hard use. The $25 batteries started failing in a few months, and recently I noticed about 3 more them no longer hold a charge.

contractor grade tools and batteries have to cost more than consumer grade stuff. If a consumer only occasionally uses a tool then maybe cheap batteries will work fine in it for years. A contractor working every day has higher requirements. Kinda like a light duty pickup passenger car substitute that will occasionally hall a few hundred pounds of cargo is great for its purpose, but will break down in. a hurry if it has to carry a maximum load on rough job sites every day.
Our capitalist system ain't perfect, but it's great to have as many choices as possible. No one product is ideal for everybody.

I buy similar knock off batteries for my Hitachi 18V tools off ebay for 25 bucks (4 ah), and have yet to have a problem. I finished 35 feet of fence on one battery with my circ saw, and it almost made it. That's cutting treated 2x4 and 2x12 (rot board). The battery was hot when it finally ran out, but cooled it off put it on the charger and fired up again like new. Lithium is the shit, but screw paying 80 bucks if you can pretty much do the same amount of work for less than half. I had the other battery ready to finish up. Rarely you use the full charge before recharging anyway. If you don't have to have a cord, why have one. I'm more worried about the motors burning up now.

David FP you do understand the batteries used in these are not new manufacture cells, they are pulled from dead electronics and they do not come close to the same safeties. The do not have thermal over load protection, these do not have over current protections.
Also every manufacturer will void your warranty if they find evidence of these being used. AvE did a tear down on this and explain in detail the differences and it is scary bad.
Yea you saved money but when they burn your house down. You didn’t save anything. There isn’t this battery conspiracy by manufacturers, there is a ton of tech in the legit batteries that these do not have. Plus you are buying used cells that you don’t know their history or if they are safe at all to use. This isn’t something you cheap on with mystery crap from China. This will burn your house down.
