Sounds like a royal pain just to avoid selling the old video processor. It's so weird how hard they pushed this like it's desirable to be chaining video processors. I'm hopeful the Morph can one day distinguish itself, but it seems a long ways off. I just want it to kick butt at something rather than trying to save me a few bucks. Oh it'll be good once you own multiple retro gem hdmi mods, an analog bridge, an infinity switch, and after a year or two of firmware updates! Plus you can use your cellphone instead of a remote controller. 😅
I got out bid last possible second on a DVDO scaler back in 2017. I got a Framemiester still have it boxed except for the RGB adapter, it's pins are bent.
The Retro Access cable I had was heavy and pulled the adapter down so it was always at an awkward angle I tried to adjust it and the pins just folded. The Remote was cheaply made too, if you've never dropped it to find out why you're lucky. The Tink 5x was a perfect upgrade.
You're braver than me. I linked my Dreamcast to my OSSC and then to my Tink4K which killed the console. That's why I had to get it repaired recently. I still don't know what happened. The tech guy doesn't know either. There was no resistor in place to compensate for the lack of a GD-Rom Drive is his best guess.
Just a heads up, I think your settings are incorrect for scanline generation. It's basically creating too many scanlines. Right now, the Morph is generating the scanlines based on a 720p image instead of a 240p, which is causing multiple scanlines to run through each pixel. As you can see at the bottom of the Morph's OSD, it is viewing the image as 1280x720, which is why it is generating scanlines that way. To fix this, you need to do a vertical prescale of /3, which will then result in the Morph handling that image as 240p (the bottom of the OSD will list it as 1280x240). Once you do that, each 240p pixel row will have a single scanline separating them instead of having multiple scanlines running through each pixel row.
Alright, here's a visual example of what I was saying with this now that I had some time to sit down and do it. ua-cam.com/video/dKhJrT_h1cY/v-deo.html You do you, of course, but this is how 240p scanlines are supposed to look with the Morph 4k.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Correct. So in order to get proper scanlines for 240p content on the Morph side of things, you need to prescale that 720p from the Framemeister down to 240p, otherwise you have 3x as many scanlines as you're supposed to.
@@G23G_ Thanks for the video, you're absolutely right you should be using a /3 prescale with 720p or a /2 prescale with 480p to get the scanlines to look authentic. The 720p scanlines are still okay if you want to emulate the look of a VGA monitor or something.
@@VideogameBucko Absolutely, that's a great point. And ultimately it doesn't matter if one person likes the way something looks and another person finds it wonky. People like what they like. That said, it's definitely worth pointing out here just because this is labeled as a review of a product. Someone could easily see this presentation of scanlines and start jumping to inaccurate conclusions.
Wonder if... the GBSC-AIO would do well as the first part of the chain? Also, are you planning on doing any Morph 4K with MiSTer cores videos? I'd definitely be interested to see how that goes!!!
I don't know. I can't see any reason to do this. Sell the Framemeister and buy a RetroTink 4k. The development of the RT4k is going at a blistering pace compared to the Morph. I just don't see the market for the Morph or why anyone would ever get it over the RT4k. Maybe if someone has all of their consoles setup with a retro gem already?
RT4k is easily the best at the moment but Morph has a lot of advantages over the RT4k not just a better price. Web interface, Wifi control, over the air updates, GameID, CEC compatibility, expansion ports, USB for controlling external switches. Assuming the software side continues to catch up then Morph is going to be a better choice in some setups for sure, depending on what you need.
Hey video game eso I don’t know if you remember me but a couple weeks back I said to you Michael Jackson moonwalker is the best arcade game and you disagree ,well it looks like Jotego is working on it right now , this is the last arcade game I been waiting for and X-men
I'm waiting for AI upscaling to 8k. It will recreate the game on the fly in 8k. Looking forward to playing retro SNK games that look modern put have that great gameplay and feel.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Perhaps, but for them to say it’s a retro scaler and only have hdmi in when all “retro” consoles are composite, component, s-video or scart… IMO they should have just waited the year and released a full product - both scaler camps have their fan boys but if the Morph brings features above and beyond competition they will rise to the top. That’s besides the point though - it’s here and sold and now… “we wait”
VF2 looks amazing. Love Bubble Symphony✌🏻Shame Bubble Memories didn’t get a stand alone console release outside of the Taito packs
It did get a stand-alone release. A very weird one. Korean exclusive PC version. Check the channel. I did an unboxing and dumped it for people :)

It’s just a fun thing you can do
@@VideoGameEsoterica: True. But, that was a pretty damn funny comment he made!
I remember when there were only 2 Choices the Framemiester and the dvdo family.
This was before even the ossc.

@PopeTheRevXXVIII how’d you manage that?

The Tink 5x was a perfect upgrade.
Ahh I see
$500 WITH the analogue bridge seems to be an excellent value. Waiting until then also has the added benefit of allowing the firmware to mature a bit.
I’ll review the analog bridge once it’s available

I think that’s wholly a coincidence honestly. Nothing logically would cause harm in that situation
@@VideoGameEsoterica
Yes, that's what I told myself when connecting everything. The Dreamcast is fixed now.

Yeah I'd love to see this too. I think until the analog bridge comes this could be the best combination
Next thurs :)
That settles it, I'm going to get a Morph 4K after my summer vacation 😂
Vacation eh?
Road trip to visit my BFF, they have a microcenter near them and I have parts to buy among other trip expenses. Taking the MiSTer with me, though 🤣
Micro center is a fun place!
Totally! I wish the nearest one to me wasn't two states away. At least it's a chance for me to teach their computer-loving son a few things.
Has anyone ran morph 4k and retro tink 5x is it possible to use the analog ports on the tink to upscale on the morph 4k hopefully im being clear.
Yes you can use the 5X as an analog bridge into the Morph 4K to get to a final 4K scale

We have discussed this, it’s pronounced “Frame Moisture.”

One of these days
Morph is looking more and more like an N64 + DD - I think it could be good but should have been designed as a retro scaler in the first place.
It’s a diff business model for sure
It is designed to be a retro scaler first. The analog add on was supposed to be out with it but was delayed due to manufacturing
