Major lacking northern states are Jharkhand, Bihar and UP which are lowest on many factors towards nation development. @@bitik9847 Actually, it's not that simple. Northern poor states like UP, Bihar and Jharkhand are not poor solely due to their own will. During British rule, these lands have been rendered mostly useless due to many factors. Farming being their main occupation, they are kind of trapped in their landlocked states where other occupations will not flourish except mining and some other small things. Southern states on the other hand have better opportunities for various businesses being near port cities, which is also the reason for them being the IT hub and the not the north even though cheaper lands are available there. And to give credit where it's due, Southern states due to various reasons have been very progressive, which has helped it in better governments. Since India is a union of states, it's duty of richer states to feed the poorer. But everything in moderation is the key.

One more thing dear, the Telangana issue could have been solved in a better way if the Krishna commission report was followed....it was recommend for special status for Telangana region and special funds and benefits for certain backward districts like Adilabad etc... If we had followed that, special status funds also would have come
