Dear Keith and Gretsch, Thank you for your tremendous contribution to drums! A Gretsch drum will always exude performance and value at any given level. I will buy this drum for many obvious reasons, even without Keith's endorsement. The fact he's putting his name on it seals the deal, for me, becasue this guy is the real deal!
This Gretsch snare drum is very versatile. You can get a fat sound and a bright crack as well as several other tones out of it. I used to watch Keith play in Texas quite frequently in the 90’s and he played a brass snare then so he is true to his word about his use of brass snares. Thanks Keith for the great drumming influence and again to Gretsch for making great drums. I play a Gretsch maple Renown from the early 2000’s and I need to top it off with one of Keith’s Sinature Snare drums. Looking forward to getting one soon. Hope to be able to endorse Gretsch drums one day.
Keith what a brilliant drummer his grooves just make you want to pick up the sticks. I love his groove fluidity. Sad to see he has really gotten heavy again just because I care not for anything else
Bro always uses same stuff in solos making him instantly recognizable but that 'stuff' is fully mastered and so difficult to recreate. I regularly attempt to phrase his iconic RLrrllKK variations around the kit but just cannot get them to sound like Keith 😅
I have no idea how he plays trad like that, with the fulcrum all the way back. The stick has almost zero bounce. Weckl used to play like that as well, and I think Erskine still does. I guess it's similar to playing doubles with brushes, which I need to work on, lol.
@@jc3drums916 sometimes I also play with like that and while it’s true that you don’t get the same rebound from the stick, you still get a fair amount of it.
Besides from the fact that he is an awesome drummer, this comment is the most recycled ever. Keith Carlock bashing pots and pans would sound like Keith Carlock bashing pots and pans.
Keith is an incredible drummer and person. I went to all of his gigs back in the 90s in Dallas Texas when he was playing locally before he took off to New York to hit the big time. Never before had I seen a drummer with such dynamics and with the left hand traditional grip way up toward the butt end of the stick. His ghost notes are mesmerizing and the speed and precision control he has around the kit makes him so riveting to watch. A true creator of a unique style unmatched. This Gretsch snare drum is truly worth the investment as well. Gretsch is a “ Man’s Kit.” Thanks to Keith for the drumming influence and Gretsch for their painstaking work to provide us with incredible quality drums.
@@maprow Mine's maxed out with the cymbals 38" off the floor. If I had to do the Bonham thing with a jingle on top I'd be unable. I'm 6'2", which is tall but not gigantic. I sit at a height that puts my thighs slightly inclined upward toward the hips as is commonly taught. I put the snare at a playable height in my lap. The hi hat must be where it is to allow stroke room between the arms when crossed. And yet every other kit I've sat behind has unplayable ergonomics, in addition to the guy's quirks such as severe tom angles etc. I hate sitting in on other guy's kits, and I will decline when offered. And guitar players think drums are just furniture. If I explain they argue like idiots.
@@maprow I watched a recent Virgil Donati video and noticed both his knees are under the snare, and the first floor tom is right next to the snare with no room for the right leg in between. I mean it sounds great obviously, but.. basically, isn't it just your typical rolled brass snare drum, standard sizes and hardware, what's so special about it as to make it a "signature" model..?
Easy answer. They all make $$$$$$. Period. Candidly, The spun brass ludwig black beauty would probably be a much finer made instrument- certainly the shell for sure. It’s just marketing. All that said, Keith IS a master at his craft. Thx. Drum on.
Also, caught him live with John Mayer years ago. He's an alum of UNT where around the same time: Matt Chamberlain, Blair Sinta, Jason Sutter, and Rich Redmond were all there - crazy scene!!
I love this drum! One of the best sounding snares ever! Gretsch and Keith, you absolutely nailed this one. Wondering how long for the patina to change over time? Feel like mine looks a bit different already!
Get jeans made from denim that has been already worn thin with corrosives and abrasives, and a trucker cap that's had the bill hit in two spots with a belt sander.
I thought the snare on this drum was a 20 wires, not a 42. I like Keith's choices, the hoops, the Lightning system, and of course the brass shell. This drum seems very precise, with a nice balance of frequencies. What's the depth of the snare bed ?
He said," may be the only one you'll ever need", not "THE only one". But IMHO it sure sounds like it just might be the "one" and that's why there are so many different snares on the market! So move on morbidly!!!
Keiths phrasing is so musical - Amazing.

Keith is the man! His sound is so unique and instantly recognizable! This snare sounds beautiful!
He’s damn near playing the same groove in every video lol
@@dmoneyas24 I agree, but nobody plays that groove like Keith Carlock :D
Sounds fantastic. I love his work with Steely Dan. Great drummer. oNe LovE from NYC
He went to the same high school as me but graduated years before I did. We'd always hear stories about Keith and his percussive abilities.
He played on a Toto record Toto XIV.
@Paul Mateo not one person gives a shit.
@Paul Mateo Testing it out right now. Seems like a fucking scam :)
Got any cool stories?
None that I can recall. He graduated with my brother and had a pretty rocking mullet from what I recall.
Snare sounds fantastic and Keith is always a pleasure to listen to. Well done and congrats Keith! Also the mix is so on point 🔥 🔥 🔥
🙏
Love Keith’s drumming and that snare sounds fabulous and typical Keith 🙌🏻👌🏻
That drum really sings!!!
A lot of people are not prepare to understand Keith Carlock Drumming. He are so awesome and awesome, have no words.
Amazing demo of an amazing snare drum by an amazing player!!
lol it comes with 20 strand wires come on gretsch you should know your own drum man

That snare sounds really nice, that kit however aounds like cardboard boxes compared to the PHX kit you were playing with john mayer..
We all know that Carlock could bash cheap pots and pans and they’d still sound good
They should make a Carlock signature 5 gal bucket.

My man Keith really puffed up again, his playing amazing as ever
What a display of this drum by the man himself. I just bought a Benny Greb beechwood this will be my next snare for sure.
sound is great great the so clean!! love it! I’m watching you from Turkey! much love and respect!
I can’t get over how far back he holds his left stick, insane dynamic contol

I think I'm the only drummer on Earth who doesn't have 12" of spare rod out the top of my hi hat.
Now we're a pair. I cut mine down as well to leave just a couple of inches above the clutch.

Sounds great and pairs up wonderfully with that Constantinople ride,
Extraordinary! I played it in my music shop and fell in love
Your playing is so sublime! 👌🏻
Damn I do not like how that sounds at high tunings. To each their own I guess
Beautiful sounding snare! Great chops and feel, especially all his left hand ghost notes!
Great chops? Not chips?
A beautiful sounding drum from a beautiful sounding drummer! Wow
Keith really needs to work on his double strokes.
Very special drummer!
His whole kit and cymbals is so on point, that snare ping is so so clean.

Love that part at 2:19 🔥
What a fantastic tasteful player Mr Carlock is..The snare sounds just awesome..Love it..
I just realized hes playing with a muffled bass drum!
Amazing sounding snare! Keith‘s groove is phenomenal 🙌🥁
I LOVE my mid 60's cob! Absolutely my favorite snare for all the reasons Keith stated!
I've never heard of this guy but man, thus guy can play some drums !!!👍👍
Look up his tours with Steely Dan. Right now. Stop what you're doing and go watch.
Also, caught him live with John Mayer years ago. He's an alum of UNT where around the same time: Matt Chamberlain, Blair Sinta, Jason Sutter, and Rich Redmond were all there - crazy scene!!
any chance of a deeper shell KC model?
Sorry to be a Gretshe fan boy, but this snare sound is gorgeous, and Keith exploits it to the hilt. Fun video.
Ha. Thanks for the love!
Saw him on the Neil Peart tribute, I was hooked.
I LOVE KEITH'S PLAYING !!!!!
Lovely sounding drum Well done.
I see he was using muffling tape.
Maybe it should have come with an internal muffler, like Mike Johnson’s signature snare...the Brooklyn Standard.
I love this drum! One of the best sounding snares ever! Gretsch and Keith, you absolutely nailed this one. Wondering how long for the patina to change over time? Feel like mine looks a bit different already!
Caught him on one of those Steely Dan Tours more than a decade ago. He was great, to say the least.
🙏
Beautiful snare drum. About the drummer, I think that this boy can do well in the next future, it seems he has good chances.
The Great Keith Carlock! :)
Fantastic drumming on a fabulous snare. This is an extremely heavy drum by the way.
It's amazing how he gets that power and mobility around the kit with such a tenuous looking traditional grip.
Sounds great! Reminds me of the 4160 COB.
You don't play with Steely Dan and TOTO if you don't have the chops and Keith as them.
life hack: your a snare over time will not look like old stuff, if it already maked like old stuff
Get jeans made from denim that has been already worn thin with corrosives and abrasives, and a trucker cap that's had the bill hit in two spots with a belt sander.
Absolutely love his entire drum sound, very much in the Gadd tradition, and the snare fits in with that as well, tuned more dry.
Those overtones are singing their own song
Classy-as-hell snare for a classy-as-hell drummer. This one has been a long time coming.
I thought the snare on this drum was a 20 wires, not a 42.
I like Keith's choices, the hoops, the Lightning system, and of course the brass shell.
This drum seems very precise, with a nice balance of frequencies.
What's the depth of the snare bed ?
I love the feel of thin hoops, the opposite of die cast
Tady I get one ❤❤❤
Keith loves those doubles the way Gadd loves the triplets between hands and foot.
I’m more a bronze fan…but this is great..
Nice sound good drumset i want one like that thank you Keith
Lol sounds like every other brass snare with a rolled edge
thats true and its horrible
Cash grass or BRASS! Nobody plays for free!😂
Good for Keith!
What are his cymbals? They sound awesome
Great GRetsch sound , great brass snare , great drummer , enough said.
Are they coming 6.5x14?
never trust anyone that says "the only one you will ever need".
Every snare drum I've had was the only one I needed.
He said," may be the only one you'll ever need", not "THE only one". But IMHO it sure sounds like it just might be the "one" and that's why there are so many different snares on the market! So move on morbidly!!!
So they sprayed vinegar on it and that = vintage patina.
I gotta get a paper route and start saving!!! 😄
It must be so satisfying to play like that
Keith is just a thrill to watch play live, amazing asset to Steely Dan.
Congratulations Keith!! It sounds awesome and I love the look!!!
Keith Carlock is the most meaty sounding drummer
Espetacular!!!! 👏👏👏👏
Sounds great.
Very good drumer. Excelent drum kit.
Wow this sounds really great!
Still sick as ever....
Insane Drummer!
Keith number one...beautiful sound!!!

Pretty handy player.
love sand cast bell brass snares.
Undeniable reference.

That playing!!!
Any top line snare can sound this good in a studio. Tama, Ludwig, etc.
