My great uncle served in the 51st Highland Division during WWII. I suppose that he could be called a "temporary Jock" as he came from the north east of England and served with the Divisions Royal Engineers. He managed to collect the Military Medal and Bar before being wounded in 1944.
My dad used to be his milk-boy in Coupar Angus, he’s says he had a great sense of fun and a mischievous twinkle in the eye right up to the end and was a very proud Scottish nationalist 🏴
As a child I was taken by my father, ex 51st who served from El Alamein to Bremerhaven, to what was probably the last reunion of the 51st. It was held on the Inch in Perth in 1967. Tough old soldiers who came to meet there comrades and listen to Monty with affection.
My uncle Jim Matthew was captured at st valery he was with the black watch royal highlanders he came from maryhill Glasgow he passed away in 2004 a true Scot to the end
My grandfather had a bit of a run-in with the Scots, the 51st Highland Division and the 9th Highland Division, at the Battle of Arras in 1917. He managed to get back to the rear positions after the frontline had been overrun by the Royal Scots and the Seaforth Highlanders while being wounded in the neck by a bullet from "a Scotsman in a girl's dress".

Really loved this - thanks for doing it. I didn't know about Tartan Tam before, and loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for this video, another General, I've not heard about, he seems to be along with Lord Lovat, rightly mainting the Scottish unique identity.

The Scots have always been fighters and the backbone of the British Army and long may it continue. Rule Britannia from Glasgow 🇬🇧 😎
Sad ye people can't fight for yourselves.

Ireland showed him the door. 🇮🇪
Sassenach ( Saxon ) is what a highland Scot called a lowland Scot.
Don't forget that a Lowland Scot would call a highlander a Teucthter! A Sassenach was usually reserved for the English!
