maybe another reson for using spoon and fork is that filipinos are good with knives and the Spanish banned us from using blades. that's why our traditional men's clothes is the barong tagalog, a see through fabric so the filipinos cannot conceal blades/weapons

This is actually a fact. It's because Spain prohibited countries like Philippines during their occupation to have knives to prevent them from using it as a weapon.

Filipino parents will always say they will get you a flu, fever although it's also normal that lots of kids like to shower in the rain at same time.

Raising hands when crossing the road is a thing in Japan too. They teach it in grade school as well and it's actually a pretty smart and simple solution.
Pasalubong is generally an Asian thing like how it's called "omiyage" in Japan, just like how "baon" is for countries with rice as their primary cereal. Both things are common in Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.

See our weirdness! IT'S MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES

No, it's not that Filipinos believe that rain has some acids. Filipinos don't like to be out when starting to rain especially when rain comes in the midst of a hot day because the hot roads that are poured with rain spreads more pungent smell that could cause any person to fell sick with fever especially to small children. That's why we have to cover our noses and mouths when rain comes on a hot day. Just like when we are out on a very hot day directly hit by the sunlight and then we go into an airconditioned room, we could get sick.

What are parents actually told us when we were young is that don't get wet with the rain because you might be sick which is most of the time true especially when you have no intention to bath with the falling rain. They also advised us that when you get wet with rain you must have a proper bath to avoid fever.

  • @kakeru21

One of the reasons why some of the Filipinos says you'll get sick when you go outside when it's raining is basically because you'll be exposed on a cold environment (you're wet so it's colder especialy with the wind brought by the rain), also puddles and mini floods is common in the Philippines if theres a strong rain or typhoon, heck sometimes a bit of rain can make some areas to flood and flood may bring dirty water from the sewer and or trash from the streets.
This also used as an excuse for parents to keep their children indoors to keep them safe and clean (not everyone in the PH do this tho).

Yes we get sick when it's raining you know why cause Philippines is a tropical county our body are use in hot temperature mostly so getting wet and cold at the same time exposed in a long period of time we usually get sick like suddenly changing temperature from hot to cold aren't suit's well to our body it make our immune vulnerable that we can get easily catch cold. It's not about the rain but being wet and exposed in a cold weather for such a period of time makes us got sick cause like I said PH is a tropical country it's very hot in our places specially during day time even it's only 8am the sun can burn our skin with direct sunlight for just couple of minutes.

  • @RSPapi
    @RSPapi 3 місяці тому

Using spoon & fork is a less messier way of eating meals. You can always ask for a knife at the counter.
When it comes to rain, some people can easily catch colds & flu after being exposed to it, though some people are built or raised differently like me, I even enjoy taking a bath & play under the rain for hours & it's just the same as normal for me.
Here in the Philippines calling out that you can't come for work due to rain coz he/she will get sick is like half true & half an excuse because when it rains most of the time it also floods the streets & you can't go anywhere.
More power to your channel Nelly! ❤

Actually Filipinos love the ràin , and as children (well even as adults) we love to bathe in the rain! Even if it's flooding, you would see lots of kids, and even adults playing outside in the flood.
So like I said, I kinda disagree with the Filipinos being afraid of the rain.

I think the rain is about the uneven change in temperature that your body undergoes when you get rained on. Your body becomes suseptible to viruses and bacteria because the immune system is too busy keeping track of your temperature. That's why people here say it's better to be drenched in sudden hard falling rain or to take a shower after getting a bit rained on.

A little context with rice. Do note that we love rice, but not just because it's culture, but also because our dishes pair well with rice. Most of the food is oily, too spicy, too salty, so the rice really helps balance out the flavor, that's why while it's common for other races like India or Japan to salt their rice or add pepper on it, we don't because the dish served beside it is already salty or spicy. This is also why we often use the spoon and fork to shovel rice and the dish/meat into the spoon all at once.
But, it's not like we are adverse to making the rice better, that's why we have fried rice. The most common is garlic fried rice, but basically fried rice can also be made with any leftovers we have in the fridge, which is why the adobo rice was born

Bowing... isn't really bowing. At least that's not how I understand it. Maybe an anthropologist will have a solid answer, but here's mine. We do this when we have to move between you and the television. We "bow" so we don't break your line of sight between you and the tv. We "bow" so we don't break the line of sight between you and the person you're speaking to. Cutting between both of you is rude enough, but we need to move through the space between you. We don't want to be blatantly disrespectful by keeping you from seeing each other's faces. We bend over so you can continue your conversation (or continue enjoying your movie) without our bodies getting in the way. Of course, the bowing is physically futile. We *are* in the way for the 2 seconds it takes to cut between two people talking or the 5 seconds it takes to move across your field of view on movie night. Some of us can't bend over low enough to be unobtrusive. We bend over nevertheless, hands pressed together as if we're begging your indulgence (or swimming through the sacred space between you and your friend, or between you and your television program), because we want you to know we don't mean to disrespect you.

Parents remind their children not to play outside when raining to not get sick, We grew up with this and most of us still practice/believe it as adults.

Cause you can use spoon to cut your meat. Some people even use the spoon to open a can of sardines.

Using Spoon and Fork is quite common in the Philippines. Me either I preferred using it but personally I don't recommend using knife for eating specially when children will supposed to use it because it's very dangerous. Maybe they will use it in any negative means like stabbing.

Reason for not going out if it rains especially if its not so urgent is the traffic and sometimes the flooding of the road and not because of getting sick
