  • By request and opportunity, I'd thought I would explore the evolution of my trad rack since the last video I shot some time ago. These videos are largely just an overview of what I do and covers some other options available to you as well if you're trying to figure out what you would need to attack longer multipitch climbs.
Unfortunately, this video clocked in at over 1h 15 min long but was conveniently divided into 5 sections. I decided instead to divide them into 5 videos covering different parts of what I have going on.

The other method for the 120cm sling (at 6:52) is to twist one biner around a few times to twist the sling before clipping to the other biner. That way it doesn't form loops that can catch on things

You should do a video on your thoughts on the totems vs the camalots

for 4 foot (240cm) runners you can also just do another (2nd) loop through the biner like the normal alpine sling rack, and then clip into the doubled loop like normal. it will untangle cleanly.

Those longer alpines are hard to rack well for sure. I usually carry one on me and my personal go to is to double it over and then sling it over one shoulder diagonally with just a rope end biner attached (and I keep a spare wire gate floating around on the harness in case I need the longer runner for a nut) but I may have to try out that way of racking mine to see how it feels

What's your preferred method for longer rappels? Or a broader question I guess, what ropes are you generally using for multipitch trad?

So you recommend ~7, 60cm alpine draws. How many 120cm alpine draws? I’m trying to consider how many 60cm, 120cm, 180cm, 240cm Mammut Dyneema slings to get. I read that the 180 and 240 are for special purposes such as setting up anchors on two pros or three pros? Also, you like the BD hoodwires biners, what do you think of the Petzl Ange L biners?

What's your opinion on (hooded) wiregates vs. keylock biners for draws and runners? You seem to have mostly wiregates, but also a few keylocks, is there some kind of rationale behind that or is that just how you ended up buying them?

What would you rack up for Seneca rocks

Do you have any special way or place on your harness to rack your nut tool? I'm a bit scared to bring it with on lead, seeing as it is basically a long protruding knife that would impale me severely if I fell on it weird, near many of the vital organs. And if i'm on lead and the piece i placed got stuck, all the safer i'll feel leading above it

Put it on your nuts or Tricams carabineer. Will get it further away from you and can point in the direction that makes you happy

It kinda kills me to watch you toss all your gear down on a hard brick surface over and over
