I want to begin creating instructional videos. and am second guessing the idea. Folks, the guy is a teacher. The comments..., lip smacking, audio volume adjustments, etc... Can't we all just be thankful that we can go to intelligent people who thoroughly explain a product so we understand what it can and can not do? I'm a gigging musician. (Gigging more now because my daughter is getting married, and I need wedding bucks :) ) So this unit looks perfect for what I do. Thanks for taking the time to provide us with adequate information to make an informed decision, sir. Very much appreciated!
Scotty Ogden fl studio recognize it but when I click on my interface asio it says "Not Enough ASIO output channels available. At least 2 Channels are needed" & it's just a question mark on the pointer when I click on INPUT for audio.. I reinstalled it but it's still not working .. It don't even show up in my "sound settings" in Windows 10 .. When I plug it up my laptop makes a noise that it recognizes an USB being inserted .. & my hardware control panel says "NO HARDWARE CONNECT" when it's connected
I hv bought 2i2 2nd gen.. This is very critical to use...too bad unwanted interference noise comes...After lots of try i hv thrown it and bought behringer mixer....so think again and again before buying it..
Can someone shine some ligh on how good the Internal Dac and amp are on this unit, Looking to buy one to both record and increase the quality of my listening experience.
Hi there, I'm thinking about purchasing the solo with the possibility of getting a pair of krk rokit 5s as well. I see that the solo has a left and right rca on the back, and the rokits also have an option for unbalanced rca. If I wanted to connect a pair to the solo, would I just connect one rca cable between a monitor and the right input on the solo and then one rca between another monitor and the left input on the solo? I'm not too bright when it comes to sound cables and connections and just wanted to make sure I do the right thing.
the LED indicator does nothing for me combined with my behringer c1. the ring does indicate when I turn on or off the phantom power. people in skype say I sound distorted as heck and there is a loud audible humming in the background. please help me with this
Hi +Raymond Boeijen Are you referring to the green halos on the channels or the phantom power button please? Have you checked your gain levels on the interface and the volume setup with Skype? With regard to humming, this could be down to microphone placement. Do you have the microphone close to a monitor or anything electro-magnetic? Kind regards, Gear4music.
I don't now why, i can't make my monitor (edifier) sound. They are connected to the focusrite with double rca and to the pc whiot usb. Any suggestion? I TRIED EVERYTHING BUT NOTHIN HAPPENZ!
great video gear4music! , I bought the focusrite rite scarlet solo 2nd generation thanks to this great video . my question is can you create two different tracks , one with microphone , and an other with acoustic guitar and record both simultaneously on garageband . thanks and looking forward to your answer .
Hello Luis, This can be achieved. There are many helpful tutorials online, especially UA-cam that will be a great place to get started. Kind regards, Gear4music
I want to pull samples from the internet, either using my cellphone or another electronic device. Will I be able to run output from the sample source into an input in the Solo?
Can I use it as an external sound-card for listening music on Windows and Winamp?.I want this product for improving the sound quality from my laptop without using the front panels of the Scarlett. I just want to connect the Scarlett through USB to my laptop and then use the RCA outputs of the Scarlett and connect them to my AV Receiver. Also I would like to be able to listen with headphones from time to time. Thanks!
Hello there, Yes this is possible. It will improve the overall sound quality providing that you have the relevant RCA Inputs on your AV receeiver. We hope that this helps.
Hi, My active sound system on PC = Speaker System Z623 - Logitech (200W Woofer) My Bass-Guitar = Squier Jaguar My Peavy TKO115 bass-combo gives me no satisfying sounds (certainly not with slap sound) also lots of nois with hight freq. I want to play along with music videos (bass covering), recording is not needed, is the scarlet i good choise for that application, ps. i would like to feel to bass
Hi +Ingrid Heers yes the Focusrite Scarlett would be a good option if you were wanting to create your bass sound through your computer. You would however need some bass tone sounds from music software to be able to tweak certain tones to make your bass sound how you would like it to. We would recommend Toontrack's EZ MIX though there are many good alternatives available. Alternatively, you could go for the Line6 Pod Studio UX1 audio interface as this carries software with bass and guitar tones called Pod Farm, which is very popular indeed: www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/Line-6-Pod-Studio-UX1-USB-Audio-Interface/B38 Hope this helps. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Hi I'm using the Scarlett solo on fl studio, and I have the focusrite ASIO driver selected. Whenever I play through recordings it sounds very poor in quality and sound only comes through the right. How do I fix this?
Hi +Tretch we're sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with this. What bit rate have you got the Focusrite setup and what studio monitors are you using please?
I think about create a home studio. I'll buy a rode nt1a for mic and here's the question: can i use this product with rode nt1 mic well? i dont know a lot information about these things. let me know please, thank you.
Hi Guarav Dhanda, thank you for your question. Not necessarily, you can get Thunderbolt audio interfaces but they work with Apple products. USB 3.0 is starting to come out on audio interfaces now but even a USB 2.0 connection would still be absolutely fine. What sort of things are you looking to record?
Hi +Javier Dexter Florian the AKAI MPD is a MIDI / USB device and so you do not need to connect this to an audio interface. Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
I'll be using this for streaming and was wondering if I can change the eq settings whilst live streaming or is it only whilst you are recording into a specific software. I'll be using obs.
Ok, I am out of it today. You probably said all of this stuff. I just got Logic Pro 10. I want to be able to record my guitar on my Mac Pro. Would this allow me to do that? Also, how would I connect it to my Mac?
Hi +Josh Glowzinski the Focusrite Scarlett Solo would allow you to record guitar onto Logic. If you have an electric guitar you would simply plug in the guitar's jack lead into the interface and then in logic you would select an appropriate sound. If you have an acoustic guitar or you have an amp you wish to reference (record) then you would need a microphone. Depending on whether it is acoustic or electric the microphone application can vary. Further more, you would need to set your audio preferences (inputs/outputs) on your Mac to the Focusrite. The Scarlett Solo then becomes an external sound card and so appropriate speakers would need to be plugged into the back of the interface to hear back the audio. Alternatively, you can use headphones by connecting them to the dedicated headphone socket. Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
I was planning on getting a portable dac for my karaoke disco set up, going through a powered mixer amp and passive speakers. I was looking at the SMSL M3 Mini USB Powered Audio Decoder with Headphone Amplifier 24bit/96khz Asynchronous USB Input with 24bit/192kHz DAC Chip youtu . be / 7QwD5Byp1AU I liked the fact that the signal passed straight through to the RCA outs, and the volume control was independent to the phones. Now I am also a musician and was wondering if the focusrite would practically do the same thing and I'd have the option of recording if I wanted. I noticed that the volume control on the focusrite was an overall volume that controls both the RCA and phones outputs. Can you change that in it's software; and also will audio files on the laptop play through the unit on the supplied USB lead, or do you have to also take a lead from the laptop's headphone out to the focusrite's line in to send audio through the focusrite to the powered mixer? Apologies if dumb question but I'm not DAC or recording savvy yet.
Hi quackchung, The Focusrite interface set up is as follows: Laptop -> Interface (USB) -> Mixer (audio cables). Also please note that Focusrite interfaces have independent headphone and master out volumes. Whilst we hope this helps, please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions. Kind regards, Gear4music
Thanks for the reply. Does the " independent headphone and master out volumes" apply to the above advertised "Solo" model too; or is that feature only on models above? Thanks.
Hi +George Spyropoulos, there isn't a specific distorted guitar plugin with Ableton Live Lite, the software bundled with the interface, however, there are many good quality high gain guitar amp VSTs available online. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Gear4music.
+Strebal Certainly can :) The second channel is setup for guitars or line-level instruments. The keyboard being the latter. Simply switch the second channel to LINE on the front pannel and you can record your Keyboard. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
Hi +Strebal you should be able to. If we take the SVT 4 Pro as an example then just go out of either of the Transformer Balanced Line Outputs. The wet/dry difference is pretty straightforward, the wet will have the gain and EQ settings of the front of the amp affect the signal, whereas the dry will be just as though it’s gone straight through and ignore the amp.
Is it possible to listen to headphones simultaneously as using the rca connection output on the back? I want to use this box as a regular soundcard (sort of) and just want my headphones plugged in continuously whilst also being able to use speakers at the same time.
Hi Leo Brown, we would recommend plugging into the dedicated mic input so that you have the correct preamp for your recording. You can get an XLR - XLR microphone cable that would go from your mic and straight into the correct input on your interface. If you went in the guitar or line level input then the signal would not be as strong or good for your vocal recording. Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
Thank you , i have a strange setup where basically i have Xlr mic for youtube recording but a second mic for in game voice coms , this second mic is the one i want to listen to to make sure my callouts are heard
Ok no problem. If you would like to message me: michael.storey@gear4music.com and we can see if there is a way we can work out the details for this setup :)
Hello there, You would be able to export the audio from your DAW and then import it to a different programme that allows you to simultaneously edit the video footage. We hope this helps. Kind regards, Gear4music
is my mic too old? cause its three prongs can't get to the three mic holes......seems like people need be told up front they're going to need adapters for their iMac (Garage Band) inputs----the MINI input-size, like on the end of normal headphones. I JUST MIRACULOUSLY found TWO inputs like on the chord for an electric guitar chord!!! Didn't know i had'm! But I COULD NOT have gone ahead after opening the box with my usual tools, like headphones. FRUSTRATING the salesman didn't go into detail. Also wasn't told I'd need to register and download software to make this work, although I have my doubts already. I must use headphones with it---IN IT----thanks to the adapter-----and until i find out what actually goes into the 3-holed mic input (my mic has the 3 prongs, but it's casing prevents reaching the unit's)....i'm vocally sunk, unless the guitar input can be brung to my garage band's settings i created for vocal mic, which are not unlike my acoustic guitar settings....???? For a mental invalid like me, this is a tad tech-y. But we give the old college try.....thanks for the video presentation....it's a good start...nice work~E
Hello, Whilst it won't increase the audio quality of your PC, once connected through headphones or speakers the audio quality will be significantly better quality than it may be if it were to come directly from your laptop speakers. Kind regards, Gear4music
Hi there, thank you for the review, I am thinking of buying one of these :) what is the difference between the scarlett solo and the itrack solo? Thanks :)
Hi +Malcolm Y thank you for your question. The only real difference between the two is that the iTrack is designed to work with an iPad (with a dedicated iPad connection on the back of the interface) or a Mac or PC. The solo is to work just with a laptop or desktop PC or Mac / Macbook. They are both the same price and come with the Focusrite extra plugins upon registration. Really it boils down to your application and how you will be recording your music. Hope this helps. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
Hi +Maciek Pelechacz unfortunately there is not a delay on the mix. We would advise, where possible, trying with another pair of headphones. We would also suggest checking your headphones with other videos and audio sources to confirm if there are any given faults. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Hi +Maciek Pelechacz the latency would be more as a result of your music recording software. You are just hearing the latency in the headphones. Have you engaged the direct monitor feature on your Focusrite Solo interface please? We would also recommend checking all your recording bit-rates within your DAW too. Kind regards, Gear4music.
can I somehow choose whether to output sound through the headphone jack or speakers connected through the RCA ports in the back? currently all sounds are playing through both when I plug in my headphones
Hi there, Yes, this is possible. All you need to do is simply download the relevant driver on your PC/Mac. From here you will be able to choose which channels hear sound from which place. We have provided the link for you below. We hope this helps! uk.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/scarlett-solo/downloads
I have the drivers but I only have one instance of "scarlett solo line out" listed as a playback device so I can't figure out how to choose between the main and headphone outputs
Yes, I have a hi fi stereo amplifier Teac AX 501 and I want to connect it to a a computer but I find the hi fi DACs too expensive and I was wondering if this type of interfaces would do the job. Thanks.
Hi again Jose, This would be absolutely fine. All you would need would be a phono cable and everything should be able to run through the output of the interface>input of the Teac and then run out of the speakers via the amp. We hope this helps!
+MrJagsterS It certainly is. Focusrite are one of the most popular audio interfaces for their quality and components :) Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
hello i am using cubase 8 with the scarlett solo. I can hear my guitar when I am recording but get no sound when i try to play it back... what settings can i use to help get the playback sound?
I'm trying to decide between a solo or a 2i2 model. My first question has to do with whether the solo has problems with headphones or not. I know on the 2i2 model you have to get an xlr split cable so that way your mic plugs into both of the inputs or else it will only come out of one side of headphones (at least from what I've heard). Does the solo have that problem? or since it only has 1 input does it not have that? Finally, if the solo doesn't have that problem, and it will still come out of both sides on headphones, which one would just be better overall between the solo and the 2i2 if I'm willing to get either one? Thanks ^_^
Hi there +Bubbers, thank you for your message. You have dedicated headphone sockets on both the Solo and the Scarlett 2i2 so there should be no issues there regarding the referencing. With regard to sound only coming out of one side, that would depend entirely on how you mix your recordings. Generally speaking if you had as an example one vocal recording. You would plug into the input of your interface and set the track accordingly - as the recording would be in mono. Vocal recordings take a central place in mixes and so would come out of both left and right cans of your headphones. If you were double tracking vocals like John Lennon, Kurt Cobain etc, then you would need to record two individual performances and line them up real close to get that bigger sound - providing that's what you wish to achieve of course. Much of your mix setup will depend entirely upon what sort of music you are recording, though if you provide us with more details then of course we can be a bit more specific to help with your requirements. The crucial difference between these interfaces is that the solo can offer one mic input and one line-level instrument input. The Scarlett would offer you then chance to do either 2 mics, 2 instruments or even one of each as they have combi-connections, meaning you can either use either XLR or Jack connections, depending upon application of course. Principally, we would say the difference would come down to how you are wanting to record or the number of things you are looking to record at any one given time. Both are great devices, just slightly different to meet user needs. We're more than happy to go into more detail if you require. Hope this helps! Kind regards, Gear4music.
Gear4music Thanks for the response! I think the main difference for what I'm doing is that I won't be recording with it, I will be using it as an all round mic for streaming and also just for everyday things like Skype. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to mics so I did some research and asked around. From what I've heard you need it to go through as stereo to make sure it comes out of both sides and on the 2i2 you need to plug it into both ports to go through as stereo. Essentially I was just wondering if the solo can go through as stereo so in a live setting it will still come out of both sides of headphone users. Thanks again! ^_^
Hi +Bubbers, as mentioned in our previous reply you would still get the audio coming out of both headphones or speakers depending on what you are going to be using them with unless you tailored this with music software in a mix. In that instance, any mic would be absolutely fine. If you were using a mic just for the purposes of Skype then a USB microphone may be a bit more plausible for your requirements. If you like please send us an email at info@gear4music.com for the attention of Michael and we will gladly help with recommendations :) Hope this helps. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Unfortunately not in the Solo. There are other models in the Focusrite Scarlett series that do come with rackmountable options: www.gear4music.com/news/article/New-Focusrite-Scarlett-Second-Generation-Comparison-Chart/6XP/2016-06-17
Hi +Din Dun you would require an RCA connection into the back of the Focusrite Solo. Then because your speakers can run either RCA or a Jack you can use either, depending on your preference.
Hi Skylar Smith, the Ableton Live Lite that comes with the Focusrite Solo doesn't strictly have pitch correction, however, you can manipulate tracks - ua-cam.com/video/9vkXKSw2gTk/v-deo.html Alternatively, if you were looking for an actual VST or plugin to do this, then there is Melodyne software to help with this. Hope this helps. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Thank you for your comment.
So i did a practice recording but my voice input is not loud enough. Do I need to hook up a speaker set or could I actually connect my ampilfyernto scarlett focus rite? What cabelling would I jeed? Could you make a session of that? I m new to this thanks also how do Inpost my recorded songs on to FB?
Hi +Angelika Bertrand what setup are you using with your Focusrite interface please? and what settings and methods have you used when recording? We look forward to your response. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Hi +Tom Noyce as long as you set up your inputs and outputs as the Scarlett Solo or equivalent interface then it should be fine in Audacity. However, the free version of Ableton Live Lite that comes with the interface would be a stronger option to go for :) You also get some great free Focusrite plugins to make your recordings sound better. Hope this helps!
Hi +Léhárt Linda you would plug the MIDI keyboard into another available USB connection on your laptop or computer. The Focusrite Solo would then be used in conjunction with studio monitors or appropriate speakers to deliver the sound. Whilst he hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Thank you for the reply! I asked because I'm considering buying a MIDI keyboard next to my Scarlett. Do you think an old Roland PC-200 MK II can be connected to my laptop running with Windows 8.1?
Hi +Léhárt Linda, you would need a MIDI to USB cable to go directly into the PC or MIDI to MIDI cable into a MIDI interface. You would also need to ensure that this particular MIDI keyboard is currently supported, meaning that Roland are providing drivers for this particular product. You could go for something like: www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/Focusrite-Scarlett-2i4-USB-Audio-Interface/MVG www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/E-Mu-Xmidi-1x1-Tab-USB-MIDI-Interface/KSJ or www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/iConnectivity-iConnectMidi-2and-MIDI-Interface/19EP Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. King regards, Gear4music.
Hello, Yes the interface is supplied wit a USB cable. Whilst we recommend listening with headphones you can also achieve great results with high quality monitors. Kind regards, Gear4music
Hello, Yes you will experience more clarity when using headphones, and it will also help during the recording process to block out any external noise or interference. Kind regards, Gear4music
Hi angad sethi, Yes, the software is compatible with windows 10. You will however have to make sure you update the drivers regularly to ensure that it will run on your device. Kind regards, Gear4music
Can you please tell me what's the difference between solo and 2i2 ? I want to use this as an audio card for my krk rokit 6 g3 monitors, not interested in recording.
Hi +Ovidiu ZMC, thank you for your question. They are both similar units but the main differences between them is that the 2i2 has two combination inputs, meaning that this can record any two instruments / mics that have either an XLR or a 1/4 jack connection. Or perhaps even something like a keyboard in stereo. Furthermore, the line outputs on the back of the 2i2 are 1/4 jacks and with balanced cables connected to studio monitors you can deliver better monitoring results. The Solo has only one combination input but it does also have a 1/4 input. For example you could plug in a microphone and an electro-acoustic guitar into the solo. Ultimately, it depends what you need input-wise when you are recording and which would factor into your budget the best. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
So the Solo has unbalanced ? I heard it would be best to have balanced, so no buzzing / other interference occurs. I only need to use the interface as an audio card for my studio monitors ( currently I have onboard soundcard, and I get coil whine from the video card gtx 780, and somehow it transmits through the onboard audio and into my studio monitors )
+Ovidiu ZMC Balanced can provide a better connection but we would advise checking the connection on your studio monitors to see if they can use a balanced connection. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Hi Diabolusgtp, Yes, you can use any monitors with this interface and they should work perfectly fine. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask. Kind regards, Gear4music
Hi there Tee Juke, The back of your Rokits should give an indication as to which connections would be necessary or available in this instance. This may be RCA, XLR or balanced. If not all! We hope this helps.
Hi, Can the Instrument / Line input record in stereo? For example if I connect my DJ mixer to it and I want to record with my laptop and also record a mic meanwhile.
Hi +András Szentiványi thank you for your question. Does your DJ mixer have a stereo connection please? And are you looking to record the DJ mixer in stereo plus the microphone simultaneously? Kind regards, Gear4music.
+Gear4music Yes my mixer does have a stereo connection. I would prefer to record both at the same time but if it's not possible to get the recording in stereo from the mixer I at least (even when not using the mic) then I should look for a differend interface. So is it possible to record the dj mixer's stereo output in stereo if I connect it to the line/instrument with a 4/1 inch cable? Note: I would use an RCA male to 1/4 inch male cable to connect the mixer to the interface.
Hi +András Szentiványi the Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 may be a much better option for you as you would have the correct number of inputs to use your mixer in stereo and the microphone as well as having one input spare - this could be good if you had any guest vocals or wanted to add another instrument into the equation. We have linked this below for your consideration: www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/Focusrite-Scarlett-6i6-USB-20-Audio-Interface/RZ7 Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Hello there, Unfortunately this wouldn't work. Please reference the linked article that we have provided below. support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/209778069-Using-Focusrite-Interfaces-with-Audacity-on-Windows-and-OS-X Kind regards, Gear4music
Hi +Factual Free Thinker if you can send us an email to info@gear4music.com FAO of Michael then we can help you with this. Within the email, can you please include your setup (computer / mac, DAW, interface, etc) so we can aim to troubleshoot this for you.
I've been having problems with focus rite solo ,it was working fine 2 days ago an now it's not wanting to record on my mixcraft pro 7 , i try to talk on the mic an sound levels don't change colors even with the phantom power on , fist time it occurs , any advice ?
+Josue Santos Have you tried restarting your computer or the mixcraft pro 7 software at all? If so, and you are still encountering difficulties then we would recommend you contact Focusrite.
Hello there +Refugio Flores, The 2i2 features two multi purpose XLR/Line inputs whereas the Focusrite solo has one XLR mic input and one jack input. Monitors may be connected through the back of the interface through selected monitor outputs. Kind regards, Gear4music
hi,hate to confuse you this late but a couple quick questions? Well I have a MacBook pro late 2011, n I got the akgp420 mic connected to the Scarlett solo.anyhow when I plugged my senheisser headphones in n I got a lil beep beep beep sound while recording any idea? also when I listened back it played left side only on cardioid. I have omni n figure 8 also? should I switch to omni or flip mic half n half? to hear it in stereo both sides? also I'm using logic pro x as well to record.I put Scarlett solo usb as input n outout too. Thanks
Hi +Thomas Cain no problem. Was there any alarms or anything like a mobile phone that could have caused interference or noise in the recording? Sometimes mics can be sensitive and pick up these details. The cardioid and omni just refers to the pick up pattern rather than the mix of your audio. We would recommend keeping the recording central rather than panning left or right. It also ultimately depends what you are recording, as to whether this would benefit from a mono or stereo mix / recording. If you are looking for a stereo recording then we would recommend using something like matched pairs to ensure that the detail and balance is correct. Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
+That One Reviewer unfortunately not, the USB can only power the interface itself. There are reasonably-priced studio monitors and speakers on the market though which would be suitable. We'd be more than happy to help if you did need any recommendations. :)
When using with a DAW, does it split the interface up into separate channels? Or is it just a single channel where you have to split them left and right to separate them?
Hi +JoeMadBro thank you for your question. You would need to create the individual channels in your DAW and then select input 1 or input 2 to the desired channel to split them. If you wanted to put them left and right then you would need to use the panning options on the channels in your DAW. Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
i have a question, my dad makes music for a hobby, his soundcard is pretty old and is not able to produce a good sound whenever he uses an effect or when the music gets to complicated with instruments. i want to buy him a new soundcard. will this product do the job or is this product meant for something else? ( srry for bad english)
Hi +Prow Syniix thank you for your comment. The Focusrite Scarlett Solo would certainly be an option, however, it would depend on how many inputs and outputs are required or how many individual instruments would need recording. Please could you let us know how many things your dad would be looking to record at any one given time? We look forward to your response. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Hi +Prow Syniix does he connect these items directly to his computer? If not, and he requires a midi connection as well as line-level inputs then the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 would be better suited: www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/Focusrite-Scarlett-2i4-USB-Audio-Interface/MVG If he already has music software he would just need suitable speakers to listen back to his performances and recordings. Do you know if he already has these? We look forward to your response. Kind regards, Gear4music.
+Prow Syniix Please be sure to check the connection on the back of the speakers he has and then you should be good to decide whether the Focusrite Solo or the 2i2 is more suitable :) Kind regards, Gear4music.
Hi there, Thank you so much for all the information! it's awesome! though I had one doubt with the usage of the instrument. can I plug-in a device playing karaoke instead of a guitar to Scarlett solo so that instead of recording with guitar I can record with the track..is this possible?
Hello Akshay, The best way to play along to tracks is to download the specific backing track and import it into your selected DAW as a whole track. We hope this helps. Kind regards, Gear4music
Hi +jj jj, with a USB mic you would not necessarily need the Focusrite solo because the microphone connection is going directly into your Mac. The Focusrite Scarlett would be better suited to a microphone which has an XLR cable connection. The interface then has a pre-amp to help give it the Focusrite sound. Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
+jj jj Is your USB mic picking up any audio signal at all outside of ProTools? Have you tried this in another DAW or computer/laptop? What brand of USB mic is it please? We look forward to your response. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Hey guys!I just bought this interface.Anyone knows can I use it on more than one pc?I mean I'd like to use my laptop and my desktop with it as well.Does anyone knows this?Cheers
Hi Mike, yes we can confirm that it is Windows 10 compatible. You just need to download driver 2.5.2 . This can be found here: owncloud.focusrite.com/owncloud/public.php?service=files&t=9a6c22504e230c260f4734d99b041b61 Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Hi +Clym Smith you can listen to both. If you use the direct monitor feature then you can play the audio back through your speakers. Hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
+Gear4music Hey! Thanks for your response :) Oh ok, does it have to be through speakers or can I listen both at the same time through headphones only? Many thanks again :) Clym
Hi +Clym Smith, using the headphone socket on the interface would cancel out the audio from speakers. So it would be one or the other with this interface. Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile. Kind regards, Gear4music.
Hello there, Thanks for the message. Rather than try and explain it in words, we've found a handy tutorial that may be of assistance! We hope this helps. bit.ly/2n6meS2 Kind regards, Gear4music
if i am using the scarlett solo as an interface/pre amp for voice over, and using twisted wave do i have to download the scarlett software? i am also using a mac.
My left ear really enjoyed the video, but my right one had a hard time hearing it.
+1
I bought that..yesterday may 2...very happy to use that and found satisfactory
Great product demo. Helped me decide to buy the Scarlett Solo.
AMAZING VIDEO! Thank you so much, very helpful
Wow amazing Review..I will surely buy one
Lip smacking was a tad annoying. Otherwise good video.
Leone Kaiser bro why you had to mention that. Lmfaooooo I thought I was the only one. It makes the video almost unbearable. 😂😂😂😂
Damn you British folk talk so fancy. ;)
Thanks for the info. It was really helpful!
Wow, what a spot on review, I wonder if you got that cheap M-Audio 1...
Good explanation. Thanks.
thanks for great review !
i think the difference is in number of mic preamps.
But when I am using the headphone output i am able to hear the computer sound right? Like skype, ts3 or youtube?
I hv bought 2i2 2nd gen..
This is very critical to use...too bad unwanted interference noise comes...After lots of try i hv thrown it and bought behringer mixer....so think again and again before buying it..
Does this have phantom power?
Hi there,
Yes this interface does feature phantom power. We hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
Can someone shine some ligh on how good the Internal Dac and amp are on this unit, Looking to buy one to both record and increase the quality of my listening experience.
mono sound great...
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
Loved the review but the changing sound every time you move your head is driving me NUTS!!!! talking about a soundfreak... :-)
I don't now why, i can't make my monitor (edifier) sound. They are connected to the focusrite with double rca and to the pc whiot usb. Any suggestion? I TRIED EVERYTHING BUT NOTHIN HAPPENZ!
My first , last and only stupid , cute question is ... Will this audio interface works on macbook cubase 7 ? Thank you for your answer...
Yes it will, you will just have to set cubase to take the "scarlett" solo" as input and output ;)
Thanks a lot ... So the other Focusrite will too right?
My solo interface isn't turning on or giving any signs of life. I have registered it but don't know why it isn't working
Hello Kalud,
Have you made sure to download all the latest drivers and software?
Kind regards,
Gear4music
great video gear4music! , I bought the focusrite rite scarlet solo 2nd generation thanks to this great video . my question is can you create two different tracks , one with microphone , and an other with acoustic guitar and record both simultaneously on garageband . thanks and looking forward to your answer .
Hello Luis,
This can be achieved. There are many helpful tutorials online, especially UA-cam that will be a great place to get started.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
What is the difference between this, a 2i2 and 2i4?
this is smaller has less outputs/inputs.... quality would be exactly the same
The only difference is the amount of inputs and outputs they will support.
2i2 = 2 inputs, 2 outputs
2i4 = 2 inputs, 4 outputs
I want to pull samples from the internet, either using my cellphone or another electronic device. Will I be able to run output from the sample source into an input in the Solo?
can we use in multiple computers?
Can I record a guitar and vocal mic at the same time?
Yes
Can I use it as an external sound-card for listening music on Windows and Winamp?.I want this product for improving the sound quality from my laptop without using the front panels of the Scarlett. I just want to connect the Scarlett through USB to my laptop and then use the RCA outputs of the Scarlett and connect them to my AV Receiver. Also I would like to be able to listen with headphones from time to time. Thanks!
Hello there,
Yes this is possible. It will improve the overall sound quality providing that you have the relevant RCA Inputs on your AV receeiver. We hope that this helps.
Thanks ,I have it now and it is great!
por favor me ajude, comprei uma focusrite itrack solo para ligar em meu pc win 7 64 bits mas o pc não reconhece o drive de instalação...
Hi,
My active sound system on PC = Speaker System Z623 - Logitech (200W Woofer)
My Bass-Guitar = Squier Jaguar
My Peavy TKO115 bass-combo gives me no satisfying sounds (certainly not with slap sound) also lots of nois with hight freq.
I want to play along with music videos (bass covering), recording is not needed, is the scarlet i good choise for that application,
ps. i would like to feel to bass
Alternatively, you could go for the Line6 Pod Studio UX1 audio interface as this carries software with bass and guitar tones called Pod Farm, which is very popular indeed:
www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/Line-6-Pod-Studio-UX1-USB-Audio-Interface/B38
Hope this helps. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
What bit rate have you got the Focusrite setup and what studio monitors are you using please?
i have the solo and when i record my vocals its not so loud so i have to turn them up in my daw but that makes it distorted and noisy can anyone help?
try moving your mic closer to you
it doesn't matter how close it is, im having the same problem im using fl studio 12
i love my Alesis I02
I think about create a home studio. I'll buy a rode nt1a for mic and here's the question: can i use this product with rode nt1 mic well? i dont know a lot information about these things. let me know please, thank you.
if the mic is an xlr mic and not usb then you will be able to. check if your mic is usb or xlr or neither
+Emir Yavuz i want to buy that mic too with this preamp :)
Say I'm recording and have a instrumental on my computer, would I be able to hear the instrumental through the solo?
Hello,
Provided you have it connected to monitors etc. this should not be a problem.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
How to switch between monitors and headphones. I record and listen in the same room. Do I have to constantly put on and put off the monitors??
Project BOKS yes
How can i install the driver?
Usb audio interface is better that non-usb or not???
Hi Guarav Dhanda, thank you for your question. Not necessarily, you can get Thunderbolt audio interfaces but they work with Apple products. USB 3.0 is starting to come out on audio interfaces now but even a USB 2.0 connection would still be absolutely fine. What sort of things are you looking to record?
is it worth buying for music production like techno... i want better sound??? i hate using my internal pc audio ports so is it worth ??
It sure is no lie i got excited i want to buy it now
+INF3CTIOUS can you connect midi devices like akai mpd 32?
Hi +Javier Dexter Florian the AKAI MPD is a MIDI / USB device and so you do not need to connect this to an audio interface. Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
I'll be using this for streaming and was wondering if I can change the eq settings whilst live streaming or is it only whilst you are recording into a specific software. I'll be using obs.
I'd like to buy it. It is only for iMacs?
+zepelindeplomo Can also be used on Windows.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
Hi quackchung,
The Focusrite interface set up is as follows: Laptop -> Interface (USB) -> Mixer (audio cables). Also please note that Focusrite interfaces have independent headphone and master out volumes. Whilst we hope this helps, please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
Thanks for the reply. Does the " independent headphone and master out volumes" apply to the above advertised "Solo" model too; or is that feature only on models above? Thanks.
Hi quackchung,
Yes this applies to all Focusrite interfaces.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
What camera did you use to film this video please? Thanks.
can you help me when i plug my studio headphones to my mixer it makes buzzing sound ?
Can i get a distorted guitar sound using one of the free plugins that come with the audio interface? Please, someone answer....
Hi +George Spyropoulos, there isn't a specific distorted guitar plugin with Ableton Live Lite, the software bundled with the interface, however, there are many good quality high gain guitar amp VSTs available online. Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
Can the Scarlett Solo be used with a keyboard plugged in the XLR input, instead of a mic?
+Strebal Certainly can :) The second channel is setup for guitars or line-level instruments. The keyboard being the latter. Simply switch the second channel to LINE on the front pannel and you can record your Keyboard. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
+Gear4music Thanks!
Hi there!
Yes, they both work simultaneously. The output of the headphones would be the same as the RCA output. We hope this helps!
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing.just wanted to know is it possible to connect guitar instad of microphone.i mean like to connect two guitars. Thanks a lot.James
can I connect a lot of instruments and microphone into a mixer and then put the output of the mixer into the Scarlett Solo or Scarlett 2i2?
You could but you would not get the benefit of the Focusrite preamps if they were connected to another mixer.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
mh... thank you
I have a mic that has a quarter inch connector , if i plug it into the guitar bit will i have live monitoring of it
Hi Leo Brown, we would recommend plugging into the dedicated mic input so that you have the correct preamp for your recording.
Oh okay , thank you for the help ill be in contact soon :)
No problem, Leo :)
will I be able to make covers with mp3? Are you able to sync videos and audio also? making music covers
Hello there,
You would be able to export the audio from your DAW and then import it to a different programme that allows you to simultaneously edit the video footage. We hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
is my mic too old? cause its three prongs can't get to the three mic holes......seems like people need be told up front they're going to need adapters for their iMac (Garage Band) inputs----the MINI input-size, like on the end of normal headphones.
Can it increase the audio quality of my PC? I mean when I plug the headphone to it then listen to music?
Hello,
Whilst it won't increase the audio quality of your PC, once connected through headphones or speakers the audio quality will be significantly better quality than it may be if it were to come directly from your laptop speakers.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
help my headphones make buzzing sound when i plug them in and there is a delay on the mix ??
Hi +Maciek Pelechacz unfortunately there is not a delay on the mix. We would advise, where possible, trying with another pair of headphones. We would also suggest checking your headphones with other videos and audio sources to confirm if there are any given faults.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
+Gear4music there is like little echo while i record
Hi +Maciek Pelechacz do you mean latency please?
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
Yes latency
Hi +Maciek Pelechacz the latency would be more as a result of your music recording software. You are just hearing the latency in the headphones. Have you engaged the direct monitor feature on your Focusrite Solo interface please? We would also recommend checking all your recording bit-rates within your DAW too.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
can I somehow choose whether to output sound through the headphone jack or speakers connected through the RCA ports in the back? currently all sounds are playing through both when I plug in my headphones
Hi there,
Yes, this is possible.
Hi, can this be connecte to an integrated amplifier?
Hello Jose,
Thanks for getting in touch. Did you have a specific amplifier in mind?
Yes, I have a hi fi stereo amplifier Teac AX 501 and I want to connect it to a a computer but I find the hi fi DACs too expensive and I was wondering if this type of interfaces would do the job. Thanks.
Hi again Jose,
This would be absolutely fine. All you would need would be a phono cable and everything should be able to run through the output of the interface>input of the Teac and then run out of the speakers via the amp. We hope this helps!
Does it have a built in DAC for headphones? sry for stupid question i assume it is xD
Hi +MrJagsterS yes there is a dedicated headphone connection :)
+Gear4music is the actual dac/amp any good. I'll be using it whilst gaming?
+MrJagsterS It certainly is. Focusrite are one of the most popular audio interfaces for their quality and components :) Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
+Jonas Larsson thank you for help me , with your answer.
hello i am using cubase 8 with the scarlett solo. I can hear my guitar when I am recording but get no sound when i try to play it back... what settings can i use to help get the playback sound?
Hi Joey Kilbert thank you for your question. Are you using studio monitors or headphones please?
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
+Gear4music Alright thanks again for all the help! ^_^
is it possible to get a rack mount for this?
Unfortunately not in the Solo. There are other models in the Focusrite Scarlett series that do come with rackmountable options: www.gear4music.com/news/article/New-Focusrite-Scarlett-Second-Generation-Comparison-Chart/6XP/2016-06-17
how do you connect speakers to it?? rca to rca or rca to jack? not sure coz my speakers have both
Hi +Din Dun you would require an RCA connection into the back of the Focusrite Solo. Then because your speakers can run either RCA or a Jack you can use either, depending on your preference.
thanks. would there be a difference in sound?
+As “MidTerm” As They would be much the same as they both feature an RCA connection. Hope this helps.
so wat does the big silver monitoring thing do?
Hi +Brian Johnson this is basically the volume control on the interface.
Does this software have pitch correction?
Hi Skylar Smith, the Ableton Live Lite that comes with the Focusrite Solo doesn't strictly have pitch correction, however, you can manipulate tracks - ua-cam.com/video/9vkXKSw2gTk/v-deo.html
Alternatively, if you were looking for an actual VST or plugin to do this, then there is Melodyne software to help with this.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
Can you use this with Audacity? or the plugin/download thing you can get for free, I believe
Hope this helps!
tengo una es genial
Can I use scarlett solo with MIDI keyboard?
Hi +Léhárt Linda you would plug the MIDI keyboard into another available USB connection on your laptop or computer. The Focusrite Solo would then be used in conjunction with studio monitors or appropriate speakers to deliver the sound. Whilst he hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
You could go for something like:
www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/Focusrite-Scarlett-2i4-USB-Audio-Interface/MVG
www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/E-Mu-Xmidi-1x1-Tab-USB-MIDI-Interface/KSJ
or
www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/iConnectivity-iConnectMidi-2and-MIDI-Interface/19EP
Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
King regards,
Gear4music.
how do i connect it to computer dosnt it come with a cable? will there be big deffrence while listening with headphones?
Hello,
Yes the interface is supplied wit a USB cable. Whilst we recommend listening with headphones you can also achieve great results with high quality monitors.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
Gear4music thx...i know but is therw any difference while listening with headphone directly with pc and with sudio intetface
is there a difference in audio quality between with interface and without on headphones
i ordered and im expecting much better audio quality on the headphones than directly plugging to pc...i have Ath m50x headphones
Hello,
Yes you will experience more clarity when using headphones, and it will also help during the recording process to block out any external noise or interference.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
does it work with a keyboard or piano?
Hi there,
Yes, it does! You can either DI your keyboard or acoustically record your piano.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
Is it possible to connect midi-Keybords to this audio interface?
Hi Sigmund,
Yes it possible to attach any MIDI Keyboard to this interface.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
would the software work on windows 10?
Hi angad sethi,
Yes, the software is compatible with windows 10. You will however have to make sure you update the drivers regularly to ensure that it will run on your device.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
Can you connect monitors to this interface?
***** certainly can :)
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
Already bought scarlett 2i2, works fine with my pair of krk rokit 6g3 :D thanks for the help
this works with a pair of Presonus E4.5 ???
Hi Diabolusgtp,
Yes, you can use any monitors with this interface and they should work perfectly fine. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
thank you very much
Its good for edit sound with headphones or monitors???
yes there is a built in amp and dac
What Cable do I need to connect this to my KRK Rokits
Hi there Tee Juke,
The back of your Rokits should give an indication as to which connections would be necessary or available in this instance. This may be RCA, XLR or balanced. If not all! We hope this helps.
Hi,
Can the Instrument / Line input record in stereo? For example if I connect my DJ mixer to it and I want to record with my laptop and also record a mic meanwhile.
Hi +András Szentiványi thank you for your question. Does your DJ mixer have a stereo connection please? And are you looking to record the DJ mixer in stereo plus the microphone simultaneously?
Kind regards,
Gear4music.

Do you need a guitar i just want to hook up a mic? +Gear$music
can i plug monitors on the back inputs? is there any difference between the imputs on the 2i2 and the solo?
Hello there +Refugio Flores,
The 2i2 features two multi purpose XLR/Line inputs whereas the Focusrite solo has one XLR mic input and one jack input. Monitors may be connected through the back of the interface through selected monitor outputs.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
but the connectors are not balanced on the solo ?
Hello again,

hi,hate to confuse you this late but a couple quick questions?

Do the RCA outputs at the back output to 'passive' speakers (EG small bookshelf speakers)?
+That One Reviewer what speakers do you have please?
Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 Speakers
+That One Reviewer unfortunately not, the USB can only power the interface itself. There are reasonably-priced studio monitors and speakers on the market though which would be suitable. We'd be more than happy to help if you did need any recommendations. :)
it will run or not in windows7 32 bit, can anyone tell me , coz i need to buy this reddy thing
Hi +J Jay, yes it will run on Windows 7 32 bit :)
thanks,windows 7 OK I assume?
+Reece Sleight Yep, absolutely fine :)
Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.

i have a question, my dad makes music for a hobby, his soundcard is pretty old and is not able to produce a good sound whenever he uses an effect or when the music gets to complicated with instruments. i want to buy him a new soundcard. will this product do the job or is this product meant for something else? ( srry for bad english)
Hi +Prow Syniix thank you for your comment. The Focusrite Scarlett Solo would certainly be an option, however, it would depend on how many inputs and outputs are required or how many individual instruments would need recording. Please could you let us know how many things your dad would be looking to record at any one given time?
We look forward to your response.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
he mostly uses a midi keyboard and drum pad machine. is this btw the only thing he needs to make music ( besides the instruments and software)
Hi +Prow Syniix does he connect these items directly to his computer? If not, and he requires a midi connection as well as line-level inputs then the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 would be better suited:
www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/Focusrite-Scarlett-2i4-USB-Audio-Interface/MVG
If he already has music software he would just need suitable speakers to listen back to his performances and recordings. Do you know if he already has these?
We look forward to your response.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
yes im pretty sure he connects it to his pc directly, he has the software and speakers aswell.
+Prow Syniix Please be sure to check the connection on the back of the speakers he has and then you should be good to decide whether the Focusrite Solo or the 2i2 is more suitable :)
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
Hi there,
Thank you so much for all the information! it's awesome! though I had one doubt with the usage of the instrument. can I plug-in a device playing karaoke instead of a guitar to Scarlett solo so that instead of recording with guitar I can record with the track..is this possible?
Hello Akshay,
The best way to play along to tracks is to download the specific backing track and import it into your selected DAW as a whole track. We hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Gear4music
how do you use a usb mic with the solo with mac and protools?
Hi +jj jj, with a USB mic you would not necessarily need the Focusrite solo because the microphone connection is going directly into your Mac.
The Focusrite Scarlett would be better suited to a microphone which has an XLR cable connection. The interface then has a pre-amp to help give it the Focusrite sound.
Whilst we hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
+Gear4music when i try to record with it in mac i dont hear anything playing back nor does it show anyhing recording. I use protolols
Hi +jj jj have you selected your audio input preferences as the USB mic please?
yes nothing comes up
+jj jj Is your USB mic picking up any audio signal at all outside of ProTools? Have you tried this in another DAW or computer/laptop? What brand of USB mic is it please?
We look forward to your response.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
Hey guys!I just bought this interface.Anyone knows can I use it on more than one pc?I mean I'd like to
use my laptop and my desktop with it as well.Does anyone knows this?Cheers
Is it Windows 10 compatible?
Hi Mike, yes we can confirm that it is Windows 10 compatible. You just need to download driver 2.5.2 .

Hey can you listen to both the input of the "guitar" & sound from the pc at the same time? Or is it an "either/Or" situation? Thanks!
Hi +Clym Smith you can listen to both. If you use the direct monitor feature then you can play the audio back through your speakers. Hope this helps, please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the meanwhile.
Kind regards,
Gear4music.
