I bought the 3s and 4s based off your review, and went ahead and bought the 5s as a blind buy. Yonex has improved the Eclipsion line with each iteration. So comfortable without need for break in, and it's cheaper and more durable than its counterparts in competing brands.
I think investing in a thermal camera would be really nice to see where the hotspots are on a shoe, where the heat is being released and where the heat is staying in the shoe.
You’re my go to channel for shoes, you’ve helped me pick out the right tennis shoes for my feet! Will you ever do running shoes?? Your understanding of materials would be great to see especially in some of the super shoes that are coming out
I had the eclipsion 2 and 4. Very good shoes. The version 5 is even better. Great shoes. I had them for a year now and play 3/4 times a week. The outsole is very durable.
7:20 there are 2E version Eclipsions which exists in this universe? 😲 I would pay some goood money to track on of them down. I have extra wide feet at 12 is too narrow for me and 13 is too long. They don't make these in 12.5 so a 12 2E would be AMAZING for me. I never get to use Eclipsions :(
Zach which insert do you reccomend for tennis ?..Im a 4.5 player and the ones I have now seem a bit stiff Brand (SOLE)...would love to hear your thoughts ..keep up the great work with the Chanel
Great video. In the review of the mizuno wave enforce tour you recommended going down half a centimeter for narrow feet in terms of performance, that's what I did on the clay version and it worked really well, the regular size was a little loose, in this case I also go down half a centimeter on the Eclipsion 5 or I'll go with the regular size recommendation, I was unsure even after watching the video. Thanks.
Thanks for the video! I appreciate all the effort you put into it. How are these compared to the eclipsion power cushion 5 clay you talked about in another video?
Any suggestions on how to get a better lockdown in these shoes in addition to using a runners loop? I am using some power step orthotics in these shoes and for whatever reason I can’t seem to get them to lockdown around my ankle and really secure my foot inside the shoe. Still getting some heel slippage. Open to any suggestions you might have.
Hey Zach, can you review the SPO Ranger 1? I’m interested to see a full breakdown on such a weird shoe and the other shoe reviewers don’t go into the same level of depth that you do!
Zach, based on your extremely positive review, I gave these a try - especially since they seem to check the boxes for cushioning and stability to help out with the forefoot issues (Freiberg's) and my need for lateral support (Perineal Tendon issues). While I can see what you like about them in terms of cushioning and traction, I struggled with the fit on these shoes. Heel slippage was noticeable (even with using both set of runner's knots) and lockdown seemed lacking. Granted, while I do have very flat feet, my feet are not wide. Did you encounter any of these issues in your playtests? Think I will stick to my Lacoste AG LT-23 and hope the next version of that shoe has just tad more cushion (even with my Powerstep insoles). Any other suggestions for a shoe that has the stability and quickness of a AG LT-23 with just a but more cushion?
We’ll see what the CG2 plays like 👀 - the eclipsion may just need some more break in time though so that could be the issue or it’s just a mismatch with your foot shape
@@FootDoctorZach Can you think of anything else out there other than the CG2 and the Eclipsion 5 that checks all my boxes other than the AG LT-23? I play exclusively doubles, so tend to favor these quick stable shoes.
Hi Doc. I just bought the ad Accel and although I love the show it is wearing out very fast…. Is this a comparable shoe? Is there one out there? Thanks for your great info!
Used the eclipsion 5 clay and switched to the mizuno enforce tour 3 after watching your best of the year video, given I had toe joint surgery and use a carbon fiber insole. Mizuno holds the ankle better but when you tie a runners knot on the Yonex it holds up just as well. Although the Mizuno does feel more cushioned, the Yonex is surprisingly roomier (even at half a size lower!). The Mizuno kinda squishes the top of my foot and also my pinkie toe. Not sure if it’ll break in?
Will have to give Yonex shoes some serious consideration...coming from the Solution Speed FF3, curious what your thoughts may be Doc on the new Yonex Ad Accel line that has a carbon fiber shank and is geared more towards speed? Thanks!
Any more comparisons relative to the AG LT 23 Ultra? I love the speed, performance, feel, and comfort of that shoe but am tempted to go for something more durable.
@@lyndseyandandrew5771 I just tried the Eclipsion 5s and went directly back to my AG LT-23 Ultras after 30 minutes. They just do not compare for stability and fit. They are definitely more cushioned, but not worth the trade off IMO.

Hate poly upper . Throw my eclipsion 4 away after couple session. My big toe joint on right foot was compressed too badly . Why they make the upper so thick and hard .
I use Adidas Harden Vol. 6, which is considered heavy, for badminton and I don't have any issues moving around the court. Not once have I felt like the shoes were too heavy. Previously I used Yonex Eclipsion Z. For me, the Vol. 6 was a huge upgrade in almost all aspects. I'd consider myself at an intermediate level.

Hi Zach, mech engineer here. That slip test you do is probably not very useful. You are looking at static friction with only the shoes' weight. Any shoes with lower profile should do better regardless of their traction. It's not very easy as shoes can perform differently in different directions, but probably it'd be more accurate if you load them with an adult person's weight / 2. And slide them and measure the force, longitudinally and laterally :)

It’s the power cushion
