Oh! So that's what this saber is about! I thought of that much narrower . Thank you Mr. Plokhii for bringing this topic to the attention of boxing fans! All the best!
Wonderful synopsis of points raised by Tatiana Tairova's HURI lecture on "The Ukrainian Hetmanate vs Europe." Hetmanate elites were highly educated, enabling their use of Latin as a lingua franca in communications with Europe in the late 17th century. Bravo Professor Plokhii.
Thank you for your explanations, very enlightening. Oleksandr Usyk is a great representant of Ukraine at this time. He will enter in history as a great Cossack. Ukraine will be free, peaceful and prosperous 💙💛
Great video, thank you. Mazepa is one of the most interesting and contraversal person in the history. He was a fan of Makiavelly and was a master of convincing
Mazepa was an amazing leader of Ukraine, very big on culture and nation building. He built so many churches and schools, he saw that Ukraine had no future with Tsarist Imperialist Moscovia.
Debois was trying to make a show and challenge Usyk, Fury was complaining about the result; and USYK ignored them both and victoriously holds up Mazepa’s sword!!! What a legend - defeating a boxing Giant twice in a row and everyone else at the top before that !
Дякую,це важливо,щоб не тільки українці розуміли значення цього показу шаблі Мазепи а також іноземці.Мазепа визначна постать в українській. державності
Great history of service and pride for country. You can always tell USYK moves consciously and his actions are intentional. His too much for the common mind.
There was a short-lived but very real obsession with Mazepa in the European art and bohème in the late 18-19c. Forbidden love, strife for freedom, self-sacrifice - a perfect romantic mix.
Thank you very much for Mazepa story summary. Now i am definitely buying the new book about the history of Ukrainian Cossacks, advertised by Olena Kurbanova just few days ago
the term Russia (so called russian empire) actually was officially introduced by tsar of Moscowy Peter, (also the terrible in fact, like stalin the terrible or like putin the terrible😅). Root morpheme of the word ' russia' is Rus or old scandinavian ' ruotsi' that refers to rowing on the boat, and is slavic linguistic adaptation of viking expansion term, and concerned in its most part the lands under leadership of Kyiv, its capital city. what today is called Russia most of the time would actually be moscovia or muscowyland, may that be a fortress or kingdom or latter so called empire.
There was no "Russia" in 1708, only Moscovia (Tsardom of Moscow), even local Moscovian maps prove this. Only in 1721 Peter I will crown himself as an emperor of so called "All-rossian Empire", which was unheard of at the time. And for many decades or even the whole next century many in Europe didn't recognize this "Russian empire" neither as "Russia" nor as a real empire. Because the name Rus' represented Ukrainian lands for many centuries and Moscow didn't even controlled most of Ukrainian lands until total Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth collapse in 1795. And the Ruthenian lands in todays Western Ukraine, which were actually first called as Russia since Middle Ages, were annexed by Austria in 1772 and were finally occupied by Moscow only as a result of WW2.
7:30 like on that map that you have in the middle. forget 'Russia'.the muscowy - thats where the freaking orcs come from. and muscowy it shall remain, or shall not. amen
Mr genius, at that time it wasn't Poland. It was Rich Pospolita ( excuse me if it spelled wrong.) It included Litva, Latvia, Belorus, Estonia, part of moskivia. So central Europe is pretty good name to call in that context.
Glory to Ukraine! Its history is so amazing to learn! Glory to the Heroes!
Thanks, professor Plokhii 👍👍

Good talk. Great job by adding subtitels and other video features.

Great lecture, but no need to always replace “Poland” with “Central Europe” when discussing the history.

@@olala-j7gsure next time I’ll refer to the Soviet Union and Russian Empire as the “Northern Eurasian Landmass “ 😂
@@markgolkowski9804 feel free brother.
@@markgolkowski9804 so why should he call it Poland but not Belarus then ?
