I’d say he is the most overrated personally. He made the front line of Sky Sport’s Premier League all time 11 - Shearer, Henry, Aguero, Drogba, Van Nistelrooy, Rooney - all more effective strikers for me. Some may not have had his first touch but his goal ratio just doesn’t match up to these lot.
@@therealforrestpower He's a second striker. He mostly used as a number 10 which provides more assists to the main striker (number 9). When he arrived at Arsenal, he was the club top scorer until Anelka and Henry joined the squad.

I think, with the ball at their feet, Messi, Maradona, R9, Ronaldinho, Savicevic, Baggio, Bergkamp and Neymar are the most gifted players ever, Pele and Best probably too, though there is less footage of them, so they are harder to evaluate.
Bergkamp was elegant because he was a simplistic footballer who didn't overcomplicate things. Didn't do overly flashy Ronaldinho style tricks or eye catching acrobatic goals like Ibrahimovic or slow the game down playing cross-field passes like Gerrard would. Was a very direct player, his game was intelligent first touch turns away from defenders, perfect cushion-like ball control from difficult passes that came through the air and accurate finesse shots that would float into the net. Also wasn't a selfish player and actually preferred to assist than score himself, his through balls were beautiful to watch.
That Pires pass and Bergkamp turn vs Newcastle is so ridiculous it should have been illegal and Bergkamp should have been arrested for attempting something from out of this world. When watching I cannot imagine how he did it even watching it multiple times! Beyond world class he was!
I'll never tire of watching THAT goal against Newcastle. But what a fabulous collection - thanks for posting. His control and placement when scoring was phenomenal.
@@adwaith-haridas5116 I like Messi but Bergkamp played against some serious defenders back in the days unlike Messi..don’t think that Messi would be that beast in the PL especially years back when kicking someone in the nuts was not even a yellow card..

First touch and control....I think he is the best of the best in that. Fenomenal dribbling and clinical finisher. And so much imagination to do things with the ball, like goal against new casttle. So sadly underrated player!!
His side foot finishes were unreal, easily has some of the best finishing technique of all time but he didn't score a huge amount of goals because he was such a selfless player.
When I started playing football I would waste so many chances. I got dropped to defence. When summer break came up, I used to watch every day Dennis Bergkamp's goals. Next year I finished second in secondary school tournament, and when I was 13 I became the topscorer and we won the tournament. 20 years Later I Just Play For fun, but I still watch him, and I am still scoring those goals. Thanks Dennis.
The goals he scored against Argentina and Leicester where he just kills the long pass stone dead and then flicks it between the defender's legs before shifting onto his other foot and scoring. He knows exactly what he is going to do. The speed of though process is insane and under that pressure.
I know people feel Messi is the best player of all time but for me its Bergkamp. To be such an artist where every flick of the foot was like a brushstrokes...at a time where fouls weren't given and careers ended so easily due to the level of physicality...its unbelievable.

One amazing thing: Bergkamp and Zizou (players with an incredible touch, class and vista) scored with their most beautiful goal (for me) un the '' Vélodrome'' (Olympique de Marseille's stadium) (Allez l'O.M.!!). Bergkamp against Argentina, during Wordl Cup 1998 and Zizou against Norway, just before the same World Cup. 😀
I am not supposed to say this, because the Dutch are our great rivals (I am German). But I admire the depth and breath of quality that Dutch football has produced in the past 50 years.
