@@bonhamcarter4488 you don't have to take it calmly, this book is very hard and difficult to just read it and forget, it's true, but the more you get into this book, the more personal this story becomes for you. of course, you should not take this book too close to your heart: for some, it is traumatic. but I advise you to just live this book, pass it through yourself. sorry for my bad english.

I'm literally start shaking when I saw this-
A play is maybe the only way the book could be adapted in my opinion, though I am pretty against the idea of adapting A Little Life. The book has the perfect combination of nuanced hyper realism & extreme melodrama that would be lost in any form except literature. Its depictions of loss, abuse, brutality, violence, suicide, and the extremes of male relationships is handled in a way that would only come across as completely offensive if adapted to the screen. I like in this adaptation that the man performing Jude also plays himself as a child (dancing with and hugging whom I assume is Brother Luke at 0:53, running from what I assume is Dr. Traylor at 0:10) instead of having an actual child act in those very very upsetting scenes. It runs more with book's complex portrayal of PTSD, as opposed to the straight up one-dimensional flashback route I fear a film adaptation would choose.
I do agree with you, and if ever this was possible, there was a movie or TV series out already, but no producer wants pedophilia and child abuse in their work, right? Though, I did imagine some possibilities, but then again, it will let out the main subject. I read this book last year, and I cannot get over it, it was the most dramatic, heart-touching and depressing book I ever read. I still hope this play will be available to watch online or purchase it.
@@LuckenStudio i imagine in something like this that they would never show, but rather insinuate if there was ever a film adaptation. i know that even in the scenes with caleb and jude being an adult that those were particularly some of the most disturbing in the book that they would still not dare to show, but maybe simply show the aftermath.

I would pay to watch this online. Wish I can see this in person but with covid it might be unlikely. I finished the book last week and I don’t think I’ll ever forget the effect it had on me. Its now one of my favourite books of all time, which is ironic because it’s devastating and heavy, but also beautiful.

I visited the play and it was breathtaking and heartbreaking all 4 hours long. It was even more intense than the book: they all came alive in front of me. Ramsey Nasr: hulde! (en de rest natuurlijk ook)

I live in the US but bought tickets to this play twice - the first time, I was unfortunately unable to attend because I started a new job (I work in the film industry on a project by project basis). The second time, it was canceled because of COVID-19. I booked an entire vacation around this play and was so looking forward to it. Still holding out hope that I'll one day see this performance, either live or streaming??? It's my favorite book and I've heard incredible things about this adaption.

Can't believe I got tickets to see this show in December. Just finished reading the book and I'm still in tears. This looks so stunning and even though I'm from Germany I can't wait to travel to Amsterdam to experience this masterpiece on stage :)

Its really hard for me to watch this because I think Jude just dont want to get better, he refused all the help he can possibly get to get better, and he just keep pushing people away. He's so drown in his trauma that he just doesnt function anymore.. I feel bad for him but also angry at him at the same, its a mix feeling.

I don't know how I got to read the book. It completely destroy me and I wish people stop adverting it as a "sad story" when it's actually not, it's more than that and actually I also wish people could check the trigger warnings even though THE WRITER DOESN'T BELIEVE IN TRIGGER WARNINGS and that's fucked up. I'm never reading this book because of how much damage it caused me and just to think that there's a play I get do anxious and I seriouLy hope that the actors are okay after playing this.

I mean, plays are great ideas, because they can be different interpretations made by different theaters and they're nothing official, but when they make anything on big screen or some kind of Netflix series it will not be the same. I guess that is not that kind of book, story that can be put on screen.
