I think even if you're a bigger fan o Disney parks than Universal (like me) the news of Universal stepping up their game is GREAT news as it forces Disney to not rest and rely on their reputation. Competition like this is great.

I would do either of the two vacations. I prefer Disney's 4 parks over the 2 at Universal. It's just where you want to visit that the time. As for Epic Universe, people need to be aware that prices will most likely go up like 20-40% to pay for that huge investment.

I would say that buying basically all of the add-ons like the travel, insurance and dining plan and all of that stuff is a good way to make your vacation overpriced. Get a hotel get Park hoppers everything else comes out of your pocket now I could be wrong here, but the only wayfor me to feel confident about that would be to run the numbers on identical vacations, one with packages and one without packages.

Great video! I wish you had left off the dining plan on the Disney ones so there was a more equivalent comparison.! Comparing the inclusion of all food for 4 people for 4-5 days to a trip where that is not included would be more accurate. No doubt though that Universal is more affordable. Would also be interesting to compare 4 days at Disney with all the Genie+ and lightning lanes to staying at a Universal hotel where Express unlimited is included!

I will admit I have been blessed to experience Orlando on various budget scales. What I find with Disney, is that they degrade across the board no matter what budget, something that was there at one time is no longer there now. I think they actually take away more for the mid to high budget families. Disney if your local to the park can get a nice deal on off peak days and passes. But if your traveling and are not local Disney is going to slam you hard no matter your budget. It wasn't always this way though. It is now. Love your content! 👍👍

Love this video! My family has typically been Disney fans, but ever since the pandemic it hasn't been the same. All levels of Disney passes cost more money, but come with fewer benefits. Plus, having to use my phone to get in the virtual queue for rides and plan out our day was super stressful. We switched to Universal passes this year for something different and it has been a much better value for our money, IMO. Plus we can just go to the parks and not have to worry about logging onto the app at specific times to get on certain rides. It has been fun trying out different hotels and have had all positive experiences so far in 2024. My family absolutely loves Volcano Bay! Thanks for sharing your experience!

Even if Universal doubles in price, look at the size of that park and the new IP's they are bringing, the immersive environments, and the new technology being applied to new attractions, that NO other theme park in the world has. I think it’s people just wanna be excited about a awesome new theme park Itself and not have it rammed down everyones throat that “Disney is going down!!” I love both places and both appeal to a different type of person/family. It’s theme parks, there all gonna be there regardless of who’s doing better. Takes away from the excitement when people do nothing but trash one thing or another. @Erika-Raf 7 місяців тому +4

Universal and Disney offer about the same in events throughout the year. but the differences are their themes, foods (they both do food booths and a food and wine.) Halloween is more for adults with Univ. Disney more for us who can't do the scares. The main feed back I keep hearing and this is from people who visit frequently is that the overall service at Disney has declined but if you don't go frequently enough or haven't gone enough over the years, then you won't even notice the difference. Disney offers a transcendent experience that starts as a young child & becomes more nostalgic and then the history of Walt and how he pioneered so much in Hollywood and attractions/parks can't be ignored, there again going back to that transcendent feeling. Those "old boring attractions" hold a lot of history, and are dear to millions. There is something to be said to experience an attraction that dates back to the 50's-60's where your grandparents or even great grandparents experienced, and there is an audience for "retro" rides. Disney teaches you there is more to theme parking than just thrill after thrill, not everyone is a dopamine junkie. You can't take your tot, preschooler, upto 3/4th grades on most of Universal's rides, rendering it not for "everyone." The whole premise of Walt's vision was for the Family Unit to play together, and create those early childhood memories. In that perspective Disney wins out. that is up until now Universal has & will be going to that model with Epic Universe, rendering fierce competition.

We priced both out and this is what we found....
Annual (seasonal x3 and one preferred) passes at universal staying in a two bedroom suite at Surfside allowed our family to travel to universal 4 times during the year for the same cost as one trip to Disney and staying on site for one trip. Our trips are typically 5 days/ 4 nights. We traveled by car during the slower times to take advantage of the lower crowd level and cheaper passholder room rates.

I did an Orlando trip in October of last year and stayed at Universal (Surfside Resort). I love Disney World, but staying and Universal and getting a tickets for the length of my stay was an incredible experience all around. Within ten or so minutes of boarding my bus at the resort, I was at the City Walk security checkpoints. The whole thing could not have been more convenient and not a lightening lane, boarding pass or virtual queue in sight. Plus, Universal's attractions have a real "cutting edge" quality about them that sadly Disney hasn't had for a while.

This is something that I do have a hard time getting my head around it. Why do we have to pick? Why can't we enjoy what every theme park has to offer? Let them fight over us and not the other way around by giving us more innovation, new rides, new parades and spectacular nighttime shows!! Disney has always been more expensive nothing new here. I enjoy Disney parks in a different way I enjoy Universal parks! I also enjoy in a very different way Seaworld, Bush Gardens, Six Flags and Cedar Point. With that said, Universal has been upping their game tremendously in recent years and it now is on the verge of really competing with Disney as a week long resort/theme park complex with the opening of Epic and that is exciting! I’ve stayed on Disney Hotels and on Universal hotels, but most of the time, I stay off both properties as I frequently enjoy them both and more when I have the chance to travel there.

i don't know if it was more affordable, but during our most recent visit to disney and universal, universal orlando was far more enjoyable. We stayed deluxe at Universal with included unlimited express passes for all 9 of us making it a very easy experience as opposed to genie+. I should add that we stayed deluxe at disney too, but it didn't have any extra benefits, just a higher room rate.

I did a side by side with my main concerns addressed. I needed a separate bedroom for mom and dad, then the two kids in their own beds in the main bedroom. So I priced Endless Summer Suite vs. All Star Family Suites, 3 day park hoppers. It was TWO THOUSAND dollars cheaper at Universal. And I know for a fact that Universal's Dockside Food Court is WAY nicer than All Star Music. Like, not even a question. Once they add Epic Universe, I imagine the price will be higher.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this comparison! Approximately how much would meals be at Universal? Does Universal have a similar photo package as WDW? How much would those options (food & professional photos if it’s an option) put up the vacation at Universal compared to a WDW package? Thanks in advance!

  • @metsno1fan
    @metsno1fan 7 місяців тому +1

While Universal is cheaper, there's exponentially less to do at Universal than Disney, especially if you're not into thrill rides. Plus I don't think it's fair to add the dining plan at Disney, but not look into the express passes at Universal.
Universal can be done in 3 days max, while doing everything Disney has to offer may take over 5 days. I'm sure Epic Universe is going to change things a bit, but the fact remains that they offer very little for those who are either a. not into thrill rides, b. too short for them, since Universal's minimum height requirements are much higher than similar rides at Disney, or c. not into Harry Potter.
I loved Universal personally, but I have yet to take my family there because there simply isn't enough for everyone to do there to make it worth it.

We seem to come once a year and do a split stay. Usually 4 nights at Universal and 5 nights at Disney. The express pass at Universal premier hotels is the way to go. We have done club level at Universal and if you are in the parks all day you miss a lot of it. Should have 24 hour access.

Over here in California I definitely lean more towards universal A they're like 20 min away vs 1 1/2 hrs. B their platinum pass is cheaper than the socal level magic key on the payment plan. C I'm a massive harry potter fan so another win for universal for me. They feel overall like a better value.

Apples and oranges Dev. Those of us with young families ( i.e. little kids) are going to choose Disney over Universal as Disney has more rides and attractions for littles. Also depending on what time of year you visit Universal might not be open as late as a Disney park

Kind of the caveat here….not including water parks, Disney world has twice the amount of parks (for now) and in my opinion, there’s simply more to do at Disney, with more quality rides (too many screen-based rides at universal). Also…Disney still has that “magic” that uni simply doesn’t have. after Epic universe opens, a new video like this would be more interesting in my opinion cause Epic Universe should be pretty awesome.

We are DVC owners but would love to go universal for a day trip but find universal day tickets plus express passes without staying on property pretty expensive and to be about the same as Disney . Also I have two small children and we aren’t into crazy fast thrill rides and we are massive Disney lovers so Disneyworld will always win for us.

It was easy and comforting to know that if your plane is late, you don't have to jump through hoops to get to where you're going.

That was awesome, I was actually wondering about this, too lazy to do the work LOL. We went to Disney last June to celebrate our son's Graduation. He had 100% say in where he wanted to celebrate, without hesitation he wanted Disney with the contemporary. We got AP's discount on hotel, (unfortunately dining plan was not back, so we did have to factor in advance dining and costs.) in total with food, was just over $4,100 - $4,300 for 5 days (that was just hotel, food and insurance. we have AP's). I am wondering what the price points will be when they start selling tickets, AP's, & vaca packages to include the new park.

For us, with our Disney passholder discount, it is cheaper to stay at Disney resorts. If we had Universal passes, I’m sure it would even out. With the math we did, we save money staying at Disney resorts with passholder discounts and getting tickets to Universal.

Wow what a huge difference and Universal has so much newness and not to mention they offer payment plans for their annual passes whereas Disney has to be paid in full which has save my family a ton of money with Universal. Disney has to step their game up big time I love Disney but I have really been leaning towards Universal more lately. Thank you for the breakdown this definitely gives us a new perspective on the two companies and their value of their guest.

My family was die hard disney. On property every time. The whole time. But as the costs have gone up and up and over the top, the service has gone down. The garbage in the queues. The garbage over flowing from cans in the parks. The waist high construction walls not even trying to cover the mess. (During a MVMCP no less)…that feeling of value for the investment is just gone. Guess where found that feeling again…yep at Universal. The club level at Portofino Bay is incredible. Having stayed club level at Beach club many times as well as at the contemporary, we were blown away. The front of the line pass that comes with staying at just a regular room at any of the 3 deluxe level hotels at universal is worth the stay. If disney resorts want the love and loyalty back, they need to return to a time when a stay there wasn’t going to be so out of reach for most of their legacy guests. I will always love Walt Disney and the vision he had. I will remember fondly and sometimes with heart break the joy and magic we used to feel at the disney resorts and theme parks. I want that back. But so far that is a no go. If they can get the correct people in the decision making roles I know they can right the ship. Until then, universal it is. And I’m glad we have the option.
Thanks Dev! This was extremely useful and informative. You are a gem! ❤
